I'm Working Late, 'Cuz I'm A Prosecutor

Summary:

Klavier is usually stubborn about work, so when he does acknowledge it (in his own way), you are, for a lack of a better word, surprised as hell.

[Day 2] Prompt 2: Overindulgence

Notes:

I had to search what Overindulgence meant, and while it was mostly related to food I wasn't sure how I could incorporate that in a fic; so I chose a different type of indulgence suitable for our girlypop. :)

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Unannounced, you slammed through the unlocked door, immediately crossing your arms when you saw the prosecutor reclined back in his chair at the end of his office.

“Twelve in the morning,” You stated, emphasizing every word, while your brows furrowed.

The blond chuckled, leaning further back in his chair. “Go home, Schatzi. Don't wait for me.”

But you narrowed your eyes instead, staring daggers into his face, making him raise his arms in playful surrender.

“Ach, trust me, I'm almost done!” He protested, the files previously secured on his forearm now in one of his hands. “Just a few more—”

You sighed, making Klavier silent. Closing the door behind you, you stepped closer to him, gently moving your fingers through his blond hair. He grinned back.

“What a change of heart,” He began, but stopped to laugh after seeing the pout on your face.

You frowned slightly. “You know, you shouldn't at least pretend with me that you aren't tired.”

Klavier looked away.

So incredibly tired, working away in your office,” You started. His lack of response urged you to continue, “I'm a prosecutor too, I know how damn understaffed we are, but do you see me working so overtime that even the chief prosecutor is concerned?”

Klavier stared at his rings. “Are you done?”

You scoffed loudly. “Klavier, you can't possibly be serious—”

“It's not like I'm doing something that's wrong, or that I don't want to do. There are no negative consequences to this!”

Your hands reached your hips in frustration. “Oh, my apologies your highness, I didn't know headaches and unable to sleep without sleeping pills didn't count!”

“Well I'm right here doing fine, so I don't see the problem. Plus,” He added, “This is for the greater good, and I like the work!”

“Overindulgence of anything can be bad for your health!”

He groaned. “This is giving me a headache.”

“From this conversation? Or your lack of sleep?”

It was Klavier's time to stare daggers at you, but you couldn't help but laugh; prompting him to laugh with you.

He took a strand of hair from your face and tucked it before your ear, then pulled you in for a kiss. You reciprocated and immediately felt yourself melting away in his embrace.

How nice would it be to stay in this position forever… only problem was that, last you checked, it was twelve in the morning and you wanted him—and yourself—to get some adequate sleep.

You pulled away, quickly planting a soft kiss on his forehead.

“C'mon, get up.”

This time Klavier didn't budge, getting up from his chair and setting a few folders to carry along, right before you grabbed his arm.

He immediately looked at you and you started, “Don't even think about bringing these to your apartment; I know you're going to start on paperwork as soon as you get home instead of getting sleep.”

Klavier sighed dramatically, letting the files fall on a desk—or was that a speaker?—and grabbed his keys, looking at you expectedly. The two of you exited his office, and he quickly began to lock the door. You had locked yours before confronting him, so you simply waited until he finished.

You and Klavier were in comfortable silence as you two made your way to the parking lot. Before heading off to his hog, he delivered a kiss on your knuckles and winked before walking away, making you scoff in a playful manner.

You made your way to your car and sat in the driver's seat, sighing in exhaustion, excited to fall into the comfort of your sheets.

You had fallen asleep late into the night, so waking up was expectedly difficult. You shushed your alarm and begrudgingly got up from the gentle embrace of your bed, heading to the restroom to get ready for another day of work.

You didn't really know what to feel when, going past Mr. Edgeworth, he mentioned that Klavier had sent a leave for today. You stayed for some small talk, then the two of you separated to complete your specific tasks.

Slightly wary, you knocked on the doors of the Chief Prosecutor and waited. A distant, muffled voice told you to come in, and so you did. You coughed and began, “I know this may be sudden, Mr. Edgeworth,” You paused for a moment to view his expression—although he was an amazing boss, especially better than the last, you still were afraid of him in a way—which showed to be unreadable. You continued, “But I would like to request a half leave for today.”

Edgeworth looked at you, then let out a sigh, leaving you confused. He noticed this, so he explained. “I know the reason, so you need not waste any of your time. I'm actually surprised to see Mr. Gavin taking a leave for once, so I wonder if you coerced him into taking one.” He took out his glasses and rubbed his face. “You were most probably planning on doing this already, but please visit him once to ensure he's doing well. And inform him that he's free to take more days off if necessary.”

You gave him a soft smile and replied with many words of gratitude before excusing yourself from his office.

You hadn't called Klavier earlier to let him know that you would be coming to his place, so you were incredibly surprised to see him well dressed.

Or at least he wasn't in his nightsuit—instead in decent home clothes, with blond hair falling on his shoulders.

You were glad to see him alright.

“Hey,” You spoke first, touching his face.

He smiled in return and stepped away from the front door, allowing you to enter his apartment. As you stepped inside, you took note of the surroundings and pills for pain on a desk. And Klavier noticed this, sighing.

“The headache was.. the worst this morning. So I just took a leave.”

“And Mr. Edgeworth told me to inform you that you can take more when necessary.”

He laughed, elbowing you. “I'll be fine, don't worry.”

You crossed your arms. “Well today you're not. That's why I'm here.”

“Regardless.” Klavier snapped his fingers. “I always appreciate your company.”

You grinned. “Mhm. Let's sit on the couch.”

Klavier rolled his eyes, taking a seat, you sitting beside him shortly after. He brought your head to his shoulders and you scoffed as he slipped his hand around your waist.

“Feel like I should be the one doing this, since, you know, you're the one who's sick.”

You saw him roll his eyes at the word ‘sick’.

“Mmm, maybe later, ja?” He responded, picking up the remote. You snuggled in better and felt his head lean against yours.

It must have been an hour in. The movie was still running, just a background noise as you fought to stay awake. You finally decided to painstakingly remove yourself from the position, and were surprised to find Klavier fast asleep.

Slowly, you placed his head in your lap and gently played with his strands of hair, occasionally glancing at his face as you resumed to watch the rest of the show.
