"Good morning, Handsome."
Ichijou can feel the boundary between sleep and consciousness dissolving, and it's scary. Potentially exciting too. But more scary.
If Godai Yuusuke's voice is coming from a dream, Ichijou wants to cling to sleep as long as possible. Sometimes in dreams Yuusuke returns from a long absence or a short one, climbing through Ichijou's window or appearing in his car with souvenirs; other times Yuusuke has been by his side since they met, and his departure after his last fight was the dream all along.
There are also dreams where he finds Yuusuke's body in the snow, or realizes he's become old expecting he'd someday see him again after the year they spent together. Waking from those dreams is always a good feeling.
But if the voice is coming from the waking world. If Yuusuke is there with him, healthy and real and waiting for Ichijou to wake up and hold him.
Then he won't need to dream anymore.
Maybe it's worth risking waking up disappointed and lonely when neither dreams nor reality hold any guarantees.
He can't sleep forever anyway. He doesn't want to be the kind of person who wants to.
Ichijou opens his eyes.
