It’s just a scratch anyway
“Hold on Omega, I will give you something for the pain.”
Tech and Echo were busy while hovering over Omega.
The Kid having taken a bad hit during their latest stint to earn some much needed credits. It wasn’t a blaster shot though causing the issues. No, nothing as easy as that, rather something more dangerous. Something of a reptile having bit Omega while she had been scouting their target area with the rest of the team. Being small and curious as she was, Omega had wandered off and then having endured a rather nasty encounter with the native fauna.
“I… is okay Tech. It’s… just a scratch… anyway.”
Omega was dozing off, her body having started to shut down from the venom coursing through her veins with the pain following suit. Both Tech and Echo feeling furious for not being able to create the antidote as the species having attacked Omega was too rare to find anything of it on the holonet. And they did not dare to make anything up either before having all the facts. As there could easily be further complications if trying something which did not work.
“We need to get her to a medical facility!”
Crosshair and Hunter were out of their minds with worry and anxiety, seeing their precious child in such a condition, not that Wrecker was faring any better either, the five of them around the Kid trying to do something.
“It is too dangerous and there is none around here anyway.” Tech having already checked.
“Hunter, Crosshair, Wrecker, please move.” Echo ordered then, the trio certainly not helping with their worry, only being in the way.
“But… but she is burning up! We need to do something.” Hunter the mother-hen could not help himself while stating the obvious.
“We are Hunter.” Tech tried to calm him down, showing the scout slightly away from the bedside, letting Echo treat Omega, trying to make her as comfortable as possible. “Now, please, let myself and Echo figure this out.”
Tech was tapping into the keyboard as fast as he could. Using all resources possible and even impossible available in trying to get some idea what they were dealing with.
“Anything?” Wrecker was right behind Tech, breathing into his neck while the genius was doing his research.
“Wrecker, please, let me work.”
Crosshair gave the other two a look, nodding to move away from the makeshift med-bay of the Marauder. The sniper having gotten some of his wits back after the initial shock of seeing Omega in such a state.
“We need to trust them Hunter, Wrecker. They will figure this one out.”
“But what it…”
“No, Hunter. We will get through this. Omega will be alright.”
Crosshair was trying so very hard to believe his own words as well, but they needed to keep the hope up even if Omega looked so fragile, so pale while lying on the cot unmoving.
The moments ticked by, Tech and Echo busy with Omega, while the other three were pacing about the already cramped space they were all in.
What seemed like an eternity, the suffering of not knowing what was going on seemed to be getting to them. Tech feeling frustrated while Echo was busy making sure Omega was comfortable. Never missing a beat as he kept on wiping Omega’s feverishly sweaty forehead with a cooling cloth. Listening to her breathing, while making sure she remained with them still.
“I’ve got it!” Tech finally shouted over the fallen silence.
“You do?!” Crosshair and Hunter exclaimed in perfect unison, the duo having kept an eye on Tech while Wrecker had made his spot while sat close to Omega’s cot.
“Yes, I finally found it.” Tech pulled the data on the screen. “It’s no wonder there was nothing about the reptile anywhere as this one, is not supposed to exist.”
“Waddaya mean?” Wrecker asked confused.
“It was created, as an experiment.” Tech explained further.
“Lemme guess, the Empire?” Crosshair sounded positively snarky.
“Yes, and that planet we were on, well, guess it used to have an imperial research lab at some point.”
Tech glanced at the others, their knowing expressions speaking volumes. The Empire having done plenty of harm as an operative regime, but the research they conducted on animals, people, whatever hit their fancy pretty much, well, it was even worse now.
“So, we know what it is and what the venom consist of then?” Echo already ahead of the others, ready for the next step.
“Yes, as far as I can see here. We should have most things available on the Marauder.” Tech scrolled further. “All except one.”
“There’s always the one thing!” Wrecker commented.
“Well, we should be able to get the plant extract from…” Tech scanned the space they were currently in. “A planet a few lightyears away.”
“We’d better change the heading.” Hunter was already moving. “Cross, you’re with me. Tech and Echo, prep what we have now and be ready for the last ingredient.”
Hunter was in full charge again, taking control of the situation now that there was hope again. Him then taking to the cockpit with Crosshair. As the cure could not get to their previous Kid soon enough.

“How are you feeling sweetie?”
Omega blinked, once, twice, assessing herself as she was slowly but surely waking up from what seemed like a long nightmare. Only it had all been real.
“I… much better, thanks!” Her voice coarse, getting a sip from water while her family was hovering all over her, as per their usual.
“Good to have you back, Kid!”
They all remained there, hanging around their recovering team, family member. Mostly in silence, only too glad to have gotten the cure for Omega.
“We need a new plan for these missions to uncharted planets. As clearly, the Empire is everywhere doing Force knows what.” Echo noted, as this one had hit them all too hard.
Being a soldier was one thing, even without an army to call their own. The danger a given thing. But exposing a child to ever growing dangers, well, they really needed to make new plans as Echo had stated.
“We’ll regroup after we deliver the data and get our credits.” Hunter stated solemnly.
“We really need to get out of this, whole thing, this mercenary business.” It was Crosshair’s two credits.
They all exchanged glances, none of them disagreeing, this time around.
