Work Text:
Mike felt his health slowly disorienting, as the days passed by, he felt weaker each minute. Slowly, his memory started to shut down, simple things such as names or faces grew harder to remember. He consulted with a doctor only to get the results a few days later, Alzheimer's, they said. There was no permanent cure for it, only medication to temporarily reduce the symptoms.
Work became harder for Mike, he became slower which made Harvey and Donna worry but he kept on insisting that he was fine to not make them worry, as someone who has eidetic memory, he became easily frustrated when he couldn’t remember such simple sentences to a client’s past or a sentence from the by laws. That day he sat in his living room, furniture and things destroyed, the outcome of his anger. He couldn’t believe how everything he worked for, everyone he loved would be but a memory deleted from his mind. He couldn’t bear it, the thought of not remembering them.
Two days before his death, he wrote letters and had them addressed to everyone on the date of his passing. He wept as he wrote the last letter, the one addressed to Harvey.
A day before his death he went on a date with Harvey, everything was perfect. Harvey was happy, not knowing he was about to lose his everything.
The day of his death, Mike felt like a surge of energy was placed on him, he felt like he could run a marathon with how great he felt. He was able to work like he did before, bantering with Harvey as he gossiped with Donna. Slowly, the worries of the others disappeared as the day went on. The sun, which was now replaced by the moon, shone brightly. ‘The sun was the reason why the moon could shine’ Mike smiled ‘Harvey was the sun that gave him the light he needed to shine’
Headed for Harvey’s office, Mike informed him that he’d like to go home first, Harvey offered for Ray to drive him home to which he declined. Much to Harvey’s disapproval, Mike reasoned that he’d like to bike home since he hasn’t been able to do much these past few days. Harvey shook his head with a fond smile “I’ll see you at home” Mike felt tears prickle his eyes but he held them, he managed to go this far, he wouldn’t let Harvey know now. He smiled back at Harvey as he kissed him, their last kiss.
As Mike left the firm, he felt the tears threatening to fall once more. This was his last day in the firm, the last time he’d see the people that he thought of as family. New York was alive as ever as Mike rode his bike, once he arrived, he went to chain his bike, but decided not to. ‘It wasn’t like a dead man needed a bike’ he thought. He entered the hospital to be greeted with white walls and the sterile smell of alcohol. He wanted to run out of the hospital and back to Harvey’s arms, tell him everything but no. He wouldn’t, couldn’t do that to Harvey. If he was going to die, he wouldn't do it in the house he began to call home, he couldn’t do it in the office where everyone he loved worked. No, he'd die here, at the hospital where he couldn’t stain the things he deemed as important by his death.
He was slowly led to a room and everything else was a blur, a mask was placed on him. He smiled through his mask, his eyes slowly drooping as he started to lose consciousness. They said the brain had 7 minutes before it fully shut down. Every memory he loved flashed through his mind and every single one contained Harvey. As he took his breath for the last time, a tear escaped.
Michael James "Mike" Ross left the realm of the living, peacefully knowing that Harvey Specter loves him.
