Work Text:

The current time was around 11:55 PM. Yuta was out cold in his bed - he had a long day, and didn’t get much sleep the night prior, so a nap that should have only been an hour ended up lasting quite a few. Usually those naps would last all night long, but someone had other plans for Yuta today.

The current time was 11:58. Yuta’s door opened, though the track star did not hear; he was in a deep sleep, and there were few things that could wake him up in this state. Two people entered, setting a few things on his desk - which was thankfully cleaned off.

“Do you think he’s gonna wake up in time?” Aiko whispered, her cheeks puffing up a little as she eagerly looked up at Aoi.

“He’s always like this when he stays up for a night. We’ve got all day tomorrow though, okay?” Aoi responded, patting Aiko’s head while looking at her brother.

“Mm, but… he’s gonna miss it!” Aiko said, a bit detracted.

“I know, but he’s gonna be tough to wake up. The only thing that’ll wake him up in this state is-” Aoi was quickly interrupted as Aiko moved to Yuta’s alarm clock, setting the clock to the next minute.

“Just gotta…” The blogger quickly adjusted the alarm, setting it to the next minute. Which was only a few seconds away now, so by the time that Aiko set the clock down, it went off, startling her. “Aah-!” She jumped, falling backwards a little.

“Ah- you alright?” Aoi extended her arms, catching Aiko as she fell back.

“Yeah, just… didn’t realize how loud it is.” She shook off the shock, looking up at Aoi.

“Haha, he finds it hard to get up if it’s not as loud as possible…” The swimmer spoke, soon realizing that the sound of the alarm had stopped suddenly, Yuta’s hand on the clock.

“Mmm…” Yuta stirred, sitting up in bed as he looked at both his best friend and his older sister, confusedly blinking. He looked out the window… it was still dark out. “...what’s goin…”

“Yuta! Check the time!” Aiko exclaimed, now sitting on the edge of the bed.

“...the time?” “Oh, it’s… almost midnight, why’d…” Yuta looked at his calendar, before the revelation hit him. Today was September 3rd, which meant that tomorrow… “...wait!”

“Yep! It’s almost your birthday!” Aiko’s voice was full of glee, the blogger now sitting criss crossed.

“I was gonna celebrate it in the morning, but she insisted we celebrate it now.” Aoi walked over to the side of the bed, helping pull Yuta up out of bed, before walking him over to his desk. On it were two gift boxes and a circular cake in the middle - from an outward appearance, it seemed like a red velvet cake, and it absolutely wasn’t store bought.

“Ah, is that for me?” Yuta put a finger to his cheek.

“It sure is!” Aiko rushed over, her hands leaning on the side of the table. “I looked up a whole bunch of recipes the other day to find one that’d be really good… I had a little help making it, though.” She looked at Aoi, giggling a little.

“Hey, I was gonna use those baking lessons I learned for something someday, wasn’t I?” Aoi returned the giggle.

“I thought you learned those just so you could make your own donuts.” Yuta chuckled, smiling brightly. Aoi lightly bopped his shoulder, the track star still chuckling.

“Well, things always taste better when you make them yourself, don’t they?” Aoi responded.

“Yeah, but I think you just wanted to always have a supply of donuts available.” Yuta gave a smug grin.

“That too, but…” Aoi was quickly interrupted.

“Oh! The time!” Aiko exclaimed, motioning to the clock. 12:02. It was now officially September 4th. Without another word, she quickly hugged Yuta tightly, holding herself close to the track star.

“Gah-!” Yuta let out, realizing that Aoi had soon joined in.

“Happy birthday!” They both let out at once, smiling brightly.

“Aww… thank you both.” Yuta let out, pulling them both even closer. “You’re both just… so wonderful, I’m glad I have both of you.” He beamed, a cheerful expression on his face.

“I’m glad to have you too… you’ve helped me through so much, Yuta…” Aiko spoke, nuzzling his shoulder a little.

“Hey, I couldn’t ask for a better younger brother if I tried.” Aoi gave Yuta a pat on the head, before cutting a few slices of the cake. She handed one to Yuta first, then gave one to Aiko, before leaving a slice for herself.

Yuta took his slice, grabbing a fork and digging right in. He took in the taste, the hints of cocoa within the tangy dessert captivating his taste buds, the cake perfectly moist, with a sweet buttercream frosting complimenting it well. “Oh, that’s good… that is so good~”

Aiko beamed as well, her face a little pink. “I knew you’d enjoy the recipe… it’s been top rated by a bunch of confectioners.”

“No wonder!” Yuta laughed, already having finished his slice.

“Wha- you already finished it?” Aoi’s eyes lit up in surprise as Yuta cut another slice for himself.

“Yeah? You both did a good job!” Yuta spoke, before eating another forkful of red velvet cake.

Aiko grabbed her gift box, putting it on her lap as she eagerly bounced, waiting for Yuta to notice. Which he quickly did.

“Oh, the gift?”

“Mhm.”

“Let's see…” Yuta swallowed, before putting his plate down as he pulled the gift box closer, tapping the sides a bit before opening the top. Inside were a pair of red sneakers - they were from a brand that he was a big fan of. His eyes lit up as he gave Aiko and Aoi hugs. “Thank you! Thank you so much!”

“Of course!”

“Anytime, younger bro… I got you a bunch of snacks, too.”

Yuta smirked upon hearing that. “Aw…”

“Ooh, wait… since we’re all awake, wanna watch something?” Aoi suggested, putting her hand on Yuta’s shoulder.

“Of course, I’d love to!” Yuta responded enthusiastically as the three moved to the living room, Yuta sitting in the middle. He turned the TV on, leaning his head back as he pulled a blanket over himself, making sure there was enough for the other two to get some.

He let out an exhale, a softer smile on his face as he handed the remote to Aoi, letting her pick the movie.

To think this is just the beginning of the day… I can’t wait to see what we do later! Yuta thought to himself as he got comfortable, taking in the atmosphere of the moment.
