Chapter Text
Izuku was considered to be a very unfortunate child. His father left him and his mother when Izuku was revealed to be Quirkless, his mother died from an illness a couple years later, and he was bullied by everyone else.
To put it simply, his life sucked. He lived on his own, he was surprisingly not homeless, and now had to work to maintain that home while still going to school.
He worked for most of his ‘free time’ just trying to get enough money to sustain himself. Food, clothes, shelter it don’t come cheap. It also doesn’t help that Bakugou keeps destroying his uniform. He keeps having to replace his Uniform every three weeks. He can't keep throwing away his extremely limited money on uniform.
He worked in a convenience store just down the end of his road near the corner. It was small but paid surprisingly well for what it was. The small amount of his free time that is not dedicated to work of any kind was instead dedicated to analysing quirks and how well they can be used in heroics.
Heroics.
His dream.
Well his actual dream was to be a hero that puts a smile on people's faces... but that passion was very slowly dying with each passing day and each beating from Bakugou and his goons. All because he was Quirkless and wanted to be a hero.
Was it really such an absurd idea?
To want to help people despite lacking a superpower?
He didn’t think so.
To want to be kind to those around him so that they might return that kindness to either him or someone else. He just wants to make the world feel like a better place.
Society on the other hand? They think it’s okay to do all of this just because he’s part of a minority. They think they can just abuse less fortunate people because they themselves have something those do not.
He barely registered the abnormal amount of doves in the city. The birds had always been there since he could remember. There was a time back, when his mother was still around, where he questioned why there were so many doves but she didn’t know either.
That was around the same time that he started seeing beauty in every single thing. People, architecture, plants, animals machines, everything.
Recently though, he has also noticed the abnormal amount of Cranes…
The birds probably had some sort of meaning that Izuku just couldn’t figure out, especially since school starts in 20 minutes, he’d better hurry up if he didn’t want the teacher to give him a ridiculous lecture that basically means he gets to demean him.
When he reached School he scolded as per usual by everyone around him for simply existing and ‘burdening them all with his damn staining presence!’ As Bakugou yelled.
The day went by quickly, it was routine at this point and his body went semi-autopilot, though for some reason the beatings were less violent but that probably meant that Bakugou was in a good mood.
Then, the end of the day came, it was the teacher who said about their futures and decided to tell everyone that he applied for UA hero course. The class laughed.
Laughed.
He wished that was all they did. Bakugou decided to throw a small explosion his way along with a punch, before telling him to ‘pray for a quirk in your next life and take a swan dive off the roof’. Bakugou then threw his notebook with his hero analysis out the window and into the pond as he walked away.
Izuku dejectedly retrieved his ruined notebook from the pond when he got outside the school grounds. Why did Bakugou enjoy his torment? They used to be best friends.
Used to be.
Izuku thought. He realised that his hope of wanting to be friends again was pointless. Bakugou didn’t care about him, no he hated him. So why try to be friends with someone who doesn’t care?
Because he was a hopeful child who wanted to be positive, that's why!
Then he saw a dove.
He should really start heading home. Today was one of his off days, so he didn't have to work. He felt slightly bad that Jessica would be handling more people but she was better at it then he was, so maybe it's a blessing in disguse.
As he walked home he passed under a bridge with a sewer grate. Izuku didn't think much of it until it opened to reveal some sort of sludge creature. The sludge thing came rushing at him, yelling something about a good skinsuit to hide in.
Izuku couldn't get away in time.
His body was engulfed in the sludge.
He couldn't breathe.
He was going to die here, wasn't he?
"Never fear for I AM HERE!" A voice boomed.
Wait... All Might...?
...
ALL MIGHT?!
He promptly started to ask for an autograph but then a thought hit him. He could ask All Might if his dream was possible.
...
He couldn't believe it... All Might said "No you can't be a hero without a quirk" he then showed Izuku his wound and detranformed. All Might then said that he "should be more realistic with his dream, like being a doctor or a police officer."
He was then left on the roof of a very high building, with his dream recently crushed, no one to miss him, no hope for the future, no reason to keep going, he remembered Bakugou words "Why don't you pray for a quirk in your next life and take a swan dive off the roof."
He decided to take Bakugou's advice.
He took his red sneakers off and left them on the ledge.
He took a breath.
Closed his eyes.
And finally, he jumped.
As he fell, Izuku saw his four year old self, young, happy, naive, waiting with his mother and father to see the quirk doctor. He saw the disappointment and anger in his father's eyes when he was announced to be quirkless. He then realised the fear in his mother's eyes as she looked between him and his father.
Why was she scared?
He remembers her last words to him "You're going to be an accomplished young man, Izuku"
He had to live, for his mother's final statement! He won't fail her again.
He's changed his mind!
He didn't want to die!
Suddenly he felt himself stop falling, he felt like he was floating instead. He opened his eyes to see that he was encased in a hazy pink sphere, carried by doves. The doves continue to fly him into the city, to a beautiful building just outside his neighbourhood.
The doves guided him through a window into a room that looked strange, the furniture stayed the same, a bed, two couches facing each other, a dove clock with it's feet being the hands of time, but the colours kept changing. It went from pastel pink and platinum, to baby blue and silver to red and gold.
"Are you going to keep staring at my room or are you going to talk?" A female voice said.
Just then he noticed a woman sitting at her vanity, he couldn't see her face yet but from looking at her he could tell she was of otherworldly beauty. She had something in between red and dark pink hair, she was perfectly tanned, she wore a soft pink dress that showed off her figure and she had heart shaped earrings that had clubs dangling from them.
He still had not spoken to her...
"I'm sorry about this but why am I here." he asked reluctantly.
The woman giggled.
"Well lets just say that I have been keeping an eye on you since your mother's death. I could not let you end your life just because others believe that you can't be a hero."
"B-but even All Might said that-"
"Did you know that All Might was once Quirkless as well?" The woman qustioned.
"Wait... What?!"
The woman continued "He became the Number 1 Hero after getting his quirk from someone else."
Izuku stayed silent, just absorbing the information.
"So Izuku, Do you want to be a hero?" the woman asked, looking him straight in the eyes.
Izuku met her gaze head on, passion reignited suddenly. "Yes." he said confidently.
The woman's eyes lit up and she dragged him to another room inside the building. That room was different from the woman's room, it had darker colours like grey, brown, brick red. It looked like a work space but for some reason he felt the woman was not alone in the ever changing building.
