It was a beautiful afternoon in Jabberwock Island, a perfect day for spending some quality time with the few islanders that lived there.
It was one of those days where any activity would be ideal, whether it was visiting the amusement park, going for a swim in the pool or at the beach, or even sharing a nice tea party with a friend.
Sonia was the one who decided to host a small private tea party in her bungalow’s sunroom, one that was decorated with elegant teacups and loaded with plenty of little desserts. There were also a few small sandwich bites and savoury pastries, just in case someone wanted something savoury.
It was an event that was perfect for a - no, two - pregnant people, especially for one who had a sweet tooth that was the size of a skyscraper.
Dressed in a cute floral dress that accentuated her bump and some simple jewellery, the princess was looking around her tea party set up, making sure everything was in order.
A knock could be heard on the bungalow’s front door, followed by a familiar voice. “Heya, Sonia! Here ah am!”
Upon hearing her name being called, Sonia headed to the front door, opened it and saw Teruteru, who was wearing a gorgeous red dress that fit around his own baby bump, as well as some silver high heeled sandals and matching jewellery.
“Greetings, Teruteru!” the princess greeted with a smile. “I am delighted you could make it to our little tea party!” She gestured to the sunroom, directly at a Victorian style chair with a few fluffy cushions. “Here, I have already prepared a seat for you! Hopefully I made it comfortable enough!”
“Well, only one way ta’ find out!” the chef chuckled as he headed to the sunroom and sat down on the chair, then sighed contentedly as he felt the softness of the cushions easing all the discomforts he had been feeling. “Mmmmm… oh, dat feels so nice…!” He looked up at Sonia. “An’ perfect timin’, since mah back was killin’ me earlier…!”
Sonia nodded at her friend’s comment. “I had a feeling you would say that, which is why I chose those pillows specially for you,” she replied before walking to the other chair. “Now that we are both here, we shall commence this tea party for us mothers-to-be!” She smiled again. “Oh, and I made sure to pick out the desserts you were craving!”
Upon hearing the princess’s words, Teruteru looked at the array of desserts on the table, and it was everything he could hope for; macarons, teacakes, cupcakes, tarts, cookies, sweet bread, even cheesecake!
The chef immediately drooled at the sight of the desserts; this was a sugary heaven on earth for him. He could not wait to gobble up all that deliciously sweet goodness!
“Oh mah goodness, Sonia,” Teruteru said as he looked at each and every little dessert. “Dese look so delicious! Did ya make dem all yerself?”
“Well, I had a little bit of help from Hajime and Gundham,” the princess replied, yet she still smiled. “But other than that, yes! They are all my dessert recipes!” She sat down on her chair. “Hopefully they taste alright!”
Feeling curious, Teruteru grabbed a small pink macaron and took a bite, where he was immediately hit with the pleasant mixture of crispy and creamy textures. The macaron was also strawberry flavoured, a perfectly sweet taste that took him to heaven!
“Oh mah… dis macaron tastes SO good!!” the chef’s eyes sparkled after eating the macaron. “Where did ya learn ta’ do dis?”
“I learned from the classes undertaken by royals back at my old kingdom,” Sonia recounted. “Though it was not a compulsory class, I took it anyway.” She smiled a little. “I remember learning a lot about cooking in those classes… I would say that I am better at it than years before, but I know that nothing could ever top your cooking!”
“Awwww, but Sonia, ya cookin’ is great!” Teruteru reassured his friend, all while putting a few more desserts on his plate. “Besides, ah kinda need someone ta’ take mah place eventually!”
“Well, I am delighted to hear that from you!” the princess chuckled as she grabbed a small handful of tarts and put them on her plate. “In that case, I will try to make as much delicious food as possible!”
The two friends continued on with their tea party, where they ate and talked a little more about food and cooking, as well as their plans for later on in the day. Sonia even mentioned that she would like to invite Peko next time, given that the latter could not come due to an appointment.
They even talked about how Regina, Sonia’s daughter, had been doing as where she was. Sonia mentioned that Regina was with Gundham at the amusement park, her favourite place, since she had a play date with Akane’s son.
Of course, Teruteru found that adorable, and even told Sonia that he would love to take his own baby girl to the amusement park when she was old enough. Though he was not a fan of the roller coaster, he enjoyed the carousel and even the food - mainly because the food was usually cooked by himself.
As the two continued with their conversations, Teruteru continued to pile up his plate with the many desserts, while Sonia took a few small sandwich bites and savoury egg tarts.
“Ah’m surprised yer not havin’ anymore desserts,” Teruteru said as he grabbed his seventh lemon tart. “Ah mean, ya made a lot, didn’ ya? Ah don’ want ya missin’ out!”
“Well, I made the desserts with you in mind,” Sonia replied. “Though I do not mind indulging myself, I have made it my goal to eat more healthier foods for my second baby.” She put a gentle hand on her baby bump. “I also did the same for Regina when I was pregnant with her.”
“Gah… ah wish ah coul’ do dat,” Teruteru chuckled nervously. “But ah just want sugary desserts by da pound, an’ every time ah try ta’ eat somethin’ a l’il healthier, ah just wanna sweeten it all up!” He took a moment to pop a cookie in his mouth. “Don’t help dat ah’m grossed out by most foods, including ones dat are freshly grown an’ homemade…”
The princess gave her friend a small, reassuring smile. “Well, I do not think there is anything wrong with that either,” she replied. “Though eating healthy is a good thing for you and the baby, you can still take time to indulge! It IS your first baby AND you are eating for two, after all. Today is also special, so you may as well celebrate!”
“Ah suppose dat’s true!” the chef chuckled as he grabbed his… fourteenth helping of desserts. “Besides, dah l’il bun deserves nuthin’ but da best of da best!” He took a moment to rub his baby bump as he spoke.
“Absolutely!” Sonia giggled, then had an idea. “Though I do know that this tea party is not complete without one thing…” She held up a ceramic teapot decorated with pink roses. “Tea?”
Teruteru smiled as he held up a teacup with a matching design. “Ah don’ see why not!” he replied. “As long as mine has five spoonfuls of sugar!”

Sonia and Teruteru had a lovely afternoon tea party together, complete with delicious desserts and sweet tea.
By the time the two had wrapped up the tea party, half of the foods had been eaten. The two agreed to leave some food for Gundham and Regina, so the leftovers were stored into Tupperware containers and put in the fridge.
The two friends had also washed up the dirty dishes and cutlery, something that Sonia had, somehow, been able to do with ease, even while pregnant.
Teruteru, on the other hand, did his best to help out, but by the time he was finished, he was hit with the usual body aches once again. All that moving around and cleaning up put a slight strain on the chef; he was only thankful that he had an extra set of hands.
Luckily, the couch had plenty of room - and cushions - to rest on, and once the chef sat down, Sonia placed an ottoman under his puffy feet, taking the pressure off of them. She even took a moment to help take his shoes off - wearing high heels was probably not the best idea.
“Thank you, Sonia, ah appreciate it…!” Teruteru breathed a sigh of relief as he felt his feet being freed from their strapped prison, then he groaned a little as he laid back. “Ugh… ah probably should’a gone easy on all dat cleanin’…” He looked up at Sonia, who sat down next to him. “How da heck can ya even handle doin’ all dat while pregnant… an’ how do ya even handle bein’ pregnant overall??”
Sonia just gave her friend a small smile. “Well, I am a mother of two, with one who is on the way, so I suppose being busy comes naturally,” she replied. “Though I do make sure not to overdo it too much like Mikan told me, especially since my son will be coming in two weeks from now.”
“Yer lucky…” Teruteru said as he looked up at the princess. “Ah still have ta’ wait anotha’ month until ah can meet mah l’il bun…” He groaned a little as he held his bump. “Ah don’t wanna wait any longer…!”
“Well, that is just how it is, I am afraid…” Sonia replied with a nervous chuckle, then she gave the chef a reassuring look. “But do not worry, you were able to get this far, and you will meet your little girl very soon!” She then looked thoughtful. “Though because of that, I do not think you should push yourself too much. It is perfectly alright to take a break; Mikan would say the same as well!”
Teruteru nodded at that. “Dat’s a good point. Ah’ll definitely remember dat for next time!” he replied, then remembered something on his mind. “In fact, ah’m thinkin’ of steppin’ down from cookin’ an’ other heavy work da day after mah baby shower. Ah need ta’ take it easy an’ prepare mahself for when da l’il bun comes.”
The princess nodded. “That sounds like a good plan,” she said with a small smile. “It is always ideal to take it easy.”
The two friends continued their conversations about their pregnancies and their future babies, the topics swinging from all the difficulties and joys of being pregnant to their hopes and expectations for the future.
“Y’know, as nervous as ah am, ah can’t wait ta’ meet mah l’il bun,” Teruteru told the princess with a smile. “Somethin’ tells me all da pain will be worth it!”
Sonia nodded. “And I can confirm that it will,” she replied. “I felt the same way when little Regina was born!” She smiled as she cradled her baby bump. “Speaking of, Regina is excited to meet her little brother… and even her cousins!”
“Ah know!” Teruteru chuckled, remembering the times Sonia’s daughter would come up to him and hug his bump and talk to his unborn baby girl. Sometimes, the baby girl would even move around from feeling Regina’s little hands against her “mother”’s belly.
The chef sighed contentedly as he gazed in the distance, his eyes focused on the soft tawny sunset as his hands moved to the sides of his belly. “Dere’s so much ta’ look forward to… da l’il bun’s birth, da baby shower, and-“ he then broke off with a small gasp. “Oh!”
Upon feeling a squirming sensation in his belly, Teruteru sat up and looked down, where he could see his baby girl kicking and rolling inside him. Even with the fabric of the dress covering his belly, all those little movements were still visible.
“Did something happen, Teruteru?” Sonia, who had noticed her friend’s surprised look, asked.
The chef smiled as he looked over at his friend. “Look at mah belly!” he told her, gesturing to his baby bump. “Da l’il bun’s at it again!”
“Oh!” the princess gasped as she glanced at Teruteru’s baby bump. “Well, this is definitely something that I cannot miss!”
The moment after she spoke, Sonia could see a small bump forming on Teruteru’s belly - the baby girl kicking in the direction of the princess herself, as if to say hello to her.
“Awww! Hello, little girl!” Sonia cooed at the chef’s baby bump, then she looked at her friend again. “Would it be alright if I touched your belly?”
Teruteru immediately smiled after hearing the princess’s request. “Go right ahead!” he replied happily, moving a little closer so his friend could have a feel. “Da l’il bun wants ta’ see ya!”
Sonia soon began having a feel of Teruteru’s belly, gasping and cooing as she felt the baby girl’s little kicks and squirms.
“Awwww, you are such a precious little angel…!” the princess spoke softly to her friend’s bump. “I, your aunty Sonia, am very excited to meet you, and so is everybody else on this island!”
The baby girl kicked back at the princess playfully, causing Teruteru to gasp but chuckle. “Mhmhm~ Dat’s one very excited l’il girlie in dere!” he replied as he patted his baby bump. “Den again, da l’il bun loves e’erywun ‘ere!”
“I can tell!” Sonia giggled as she smoothed her palms over the chef’s belly. “Your baby girl will definitely be loved by everyone on the island and- oh my goodness!”
The princess suddenly felt movement in her belly and sat up, putting her hands on her own baby bump. She then smiled, knowing it was her own baby boy kicking.
“Oh! My baby just started moving too!” Sonia giggled, her eyes sparkling with pure happiness. “Would you also like to have a feel of his little kicks?”
Teruteru smiled at his friend’s question. “‘Course ah do!” he replied as he sat up, placing his hands on the princess’s baby bump.
The two friends spent the rest of the afternoon feeling each other’s baby bumps, cooing and chuckling at all the adorable movements their unborn babies were making.
Though their pregnancies were four weeks apart from each other, their unborn babies were just as active, even more so for Sonia, whose baby boy was due in two weeks from now.
“He’s really movin’ in dere, ain’t he?” Teruteru chuckled as he carefully patted and rubbed the princess’s belly.
“I could say the same for your little girl!” Sonia replied with a smile, her hand gently gliding over the chef’s bump. “You know, I have a feeling that, once our little ones are born, they will become very close friends and playmates… and I have a feeling Regina will love her brother and cousin just as much!”
Teruteru immediately nodded at the Sonia’s comment. “Ya know, ah have a feelin’ dat will happen as well!” he chuckled, already thinking about the future once his baby girl - and Sonia’s baby boy - was born.
Needless to say, it was a lovely end to a lovely afternoon, especially with the sunset beating down on the island, creating an orange-violet on the oceans.
