Mornings and Magnolias

Work Text:

“Why do you have to work on my day off anyway?” Chuuya grumbled and laid his hand over where Dazai was lazily rubbing his baby bump. “What the hell am I supposed to do here by myself?”

“I don’t want to work today either, but I already had two days off in a row,” Dazai leans up on one elbow and peppers his husband’s neck with soft kisses until his frown turns into a giggle. “Don’t be upset with me chibi, maybe you can do some shopping with Kouyou?”

“She’s gone on a mission for a couple weeks,” the ginger whines as his lips settle into an uncharacteristic pout. “And Akutagawa is busy doing sibling bonding crap with Gin.”

“How dare he take time away from my precious baby daddy?” Dazai gasps audibly, earning himself an elbow in his side. “Hey! We were having a moment just now.”

“I’m not your baby daddy,” Chuuya’s regular scowl is plastered back onto his freckled face. He lifts his hand to aggressively wave the gold band on his finger in front of Dazai’s face. “I’m your fucking husband, not some one night stand you forgot about.”

“Okay, okay,” Dazai groans and places more light kisses on his little husband’s cheeks. “I better make this up to you, I don’t want my adorable husband staying mad at me. I won’t go to work today, alright?”

“What about Kunikida? Won’t he go off on you and blow your phone up if you don’t turn up?” Chuuya wants Dazai to stay home, he really does, but not if it’s going to cause issues with his coworkers.

“I’ll tell him it’s morning sickness again,” Chuuya turns to lie on his back, trying to gauge whether the brunette is being serious or not. Dazai takes that as an invitation and settles himself into the crook between Chuuya’s neck and shoulder. He knows he’s been clingier than usual since the man got pregnant, but for all his quick temperedness, his beloved doesn’t chide him for it. Chuuya simply cards his hand through those thick brown waves, absentmindedly humming an old song from his childhood while Dazai sends a single text and shuts his phone off completely so the blonde can’t argue with him. “Kunikida doesn’t need to know you stopped getting it after the first trimester was over. Now why don’t I make Chuuya some breakfast?”

“I know I’m not dreaming, but maybe I’m hallucinating? Since when do you volunteer to cook?”

“Since my darling belladonna went three whole months not being able to keep down a full meal,” Dazai presses a chaste kiss to his husband’s lips, and then another one for the road, before rolling out of bed. “What kind of partner would I be if I didn’t fully appreciate Chuuya’s appetite returning?”

“My knight in shining armor,” Chuuya’s tone is obviously sarcastic as he rolls his eyes, watching Dazai pull on pants and head out the door. Once in the kitchen, Dazai begins to prepare their eggs, cooking a larger portion for Chuuya. While he works, his mind wanders to moments they shared over the last four months.

They were both so concerned when Chuuya kept throwing up even though there were no changes in his diet, only for that concern to turn to hesitant excitement when his period was late. They anxiously held hands while waiting for the results in the gynecologist’s office, and when the answer finally came, they kissed to the point that both of them were breathless. It was the happiest moment they would have for a long time after that, considering Chuuya had to give up wine, cigarettes, and caffeine all in one fell swoop. To make matters worse, he didn’t even have his precious comfort foods to help him through because the mere mention of tacos or pasta had him running for the bathroom. But Dazai was always right by his side, holding his hair back gently and cradling Chuuya in his lap when his throat was raw afterward. Perhaps that was the reason he allowed the brunette so much closeness, because he was grateful for how much softer the brunette had been with him for those three months. Dazai hoped that wasn’t the case, he was only doing what came natural to him: loving his precious Chuuya.

He’s pulled out from the depth of his thoughts by the sound of that very man yawning loudly as he pads into the kitchen. He turns his head and he could swear his heart stops beating in his chest at that very moment because of how breathtaking Chuuya looks, wearing one of Dazai’s work shirts that is so big on him that it looks more like a dress paired with fuzzy pink socks. He’s a vision in even the simplest of outfits and Dazai wants nothing more than to spend the rest of his life worshiping at the altar of his heart. He must look as struck with wonder as he feels because Chuuya raises an eyebrow when they’ve been holding eye contact for a moment too long. “What? Is there something on my face?”

“Yeah,” Dazai waves him closer, then cups Chuuya’s face gently in one of his large hands to pull him in for a forehead kiss. “There we go. I think I got it.”

“Those eggs are gonna burn,” Chuuya mumbles before taking a step back so that Dazai can turn his attention back to the eggs in the pan. Before the brunette can even feel his absence, those speckled arms wrap around his waist from behind and his forehead is rested against his back. “Mushy bastard.”

“You know you love it,” Ignoring the groan he gets in response, he finishes up the eggs and maneuvers slowly through the kitchen to plate them. Chuuya’s with him the entire way, waddling behind him because he’s unwilling to let go. “Why don’t we eat in bed? I don’t feel like sitting all the way at the other end of the table from you.”

“It’s a small table, Osamu. Don’t you think that’s overdramatic?”

“Says the short stack who wouldn’t even let go to let me get plates.”

“Fuck you,” Chuuya finally relinquishes his hold in favor of grabbing a plate and turning around to amble back to their bedroom.

“Is that a promise or a threat?” Dazai calls after him in an enthusiastic tone before grabbing his own plate and following.

“Pick one,” The two flop back down in their warm, inviting bed and sit side by side, close enough that their arms press against each other. “What about Makoto?”

Dazai’s head tilts to the side slightly, seemingly trying to remember something. “Do you mean Makoto from that one mission where we almost crashed a helicopter? What about her?”

“No, I mean for our kid,” Chuuya’s laugh is a warm autumn breeze swirling through Dazai’s mind, distracting him from whatever train of thought he had begun before hearing it. “What do you think of naming them Makoto? Or Saori?”

“Hmmm,” Dazai stares into Chuuya’s deep brown eyes for a long moment, turning the names over in his head. “Both, let’s use both. Chuuya is going to have twins anyway, two perfect little girls.”

“You can’t possibly know that,” His partner rolls his eyes, but his face is visibly beaming at the mere possibility of it being true. “Even if we do have twins, they might not be girls.”

“They will be,” Dazai insists, intertwining his hand with Chuuya’s before bringing them up to his lips. “We’re going to have two fierce daughters who will get your fire and my whimsy.”

“Whimsy? I prefer they get your brains so we don’t have to worry about getting them into university.”

“They aren’t even born yet and Chuuya is thinking about university applications? Tsk tsk tsk, you’re worrying too much.”

“Have you considered that you’re not worrying enough?”

“Never. Unlike Chuuya, I always worry the correct amount.”

“You say that but you literally have rug burn on your stomach from rolling around on the carpet.”

“How could Chuuya bring that up when we were having such a lovely conversation?” Dazai gasps exaggeratedly and juts his bottom lip out in an adorable faux pout.

“Since Chuuya got annoyed with your mouthing off,” They set their plates down on the bedside tables and he nudges Dazai’s arm, which immediately moves to wrap around his waist. “But okay. We’ll have twin girls… Makoto and Saori.”
