Work Text:
It was Friday night, all of class 1-A were gathered in the living room, having their weekly sleepover. Suddenly Hagakure had the totally genius idea to play truth or dare! Most of the class agreed instantly, with the exception of Katsuki.
“Truth or dare is such a stupid game, only children play games like that. ”
“Bro… we are children” said Kirishima
“Don’t be a killjoy Bakugo!” Mina whined
As more people joined the protests against katsuki, he could feel his temper growing.
“ALRIGHT FINE” he yelled, letting off little explosions on the palms of his hands.
“YAY! Let's play!” Mina yelled enthusiastically
Everyone formed a circle on the common room floor, all hugging blankets or beloved stuffed animals in their arms, and prepared to play. After everyone was fully settled, there was a second of silence before someone took the lead, it was obviously Mina.
“I’ll start!” Mina said as she raised her arms in excitement, she scanned the circle before landing her eyes on a certain someone. Her eyes latched onto a certain green-haired boy, as she smirked and pointed at Izuku.
“Midoriya! Truth or dare?”
Izuku yelped, obviously not expecting to be chosen first, but he still responded, albeit nervously.
“Uhm, dare i guess” he muttered, unsure.
“Alright! Now lemme think…” A few seconds of silence followed filled the air as everyone waited in anticipation of what the dare would be. Would Mina start extreme or maybe ease into it? Everyone was unsure. A large smile suddenly appeared on her face, and everyone knew what would happen.
“I dare you to… Call a suicide hotline!”
“WHAT?” Izuku shrieked, he was not expecting this, and neither was anyone else looking at their expressions. But everyone stayed silent, probably too stunned at the dare to say anything.
Izuku had no choice to accept, but he knew he had to fight it a little, even if to save a bit of his dignity and reputation.
“Come on Mina! That's gotta be a bit extreme don't you think? I mean, what if there are people that need to use it? I can't just clog up their calls!” Izuku protested.
“Ah, it's fine!” Denki joined in, apparently snapping out of his shocked demeanour.
“It's not like they don't have time in their days for a fun phone call for once? Right, guys?” Denki suggested. Everyone thought it was stupid reasoning, but they felt as if they couldn't argue with the excited energy pouring from Mina and Denki. So, they all quietly agreed.
Izuku gave in to everyone, accepted defeat and just buried his face in his hands, picking up his phone. He didn't even need to search up a hotline. After the disaster that was middle school, Izuku already had the number memorised, he was pretty sure he was their number one caller, he still called often. but these days it's more to give an update that he's alive and hasn't jumped off a roof somewhere. He was planning to call yesterday, but was so swamped with training that he almost didn't have the energy to get up this morning. Everyone at the hotline probably thought he was dead.
“Guys… are you really sure I should be calling? They're going to recognise my voice! I was supposed to call yesterday and now they probably think I've died!” Izuku said, not completely aware of his words
“STUPID NERD JUST CALL ANONYMOUSLY” Katsuki yelled, obviously bored
“I CAN'T, THEY KNOW MY VOICE! THEY KNOW ME” Izuku retaliated
“NO THEY WON'T” Katsuki was definitely fed up with the wait, and wanted to see what would happen.
“You know what, fine. I'll prove to you that they know me, even if im anonymous.” Izuku huffed. scowling slightly. He pressed the call button, and the phone immediately started ringing. 2 seconds passed before a voice came from Izuku's phone speaker, and filled the room. Many had to suppress their giggles by covering their mouths, or burying their face in pillows.
“Hello, thank you for calling ____ Hotline, please describe the issue and we will do our best to help” a soft and sympathetic voiced floated through the room, dripping in kindness and understanding. For others, it would've been a strangers voice, but to Izuku, he recognised it immediately.
“Heyyyy…” Izuku drawled, emphasising the -y sound. A second of silence passed before a much more chipper voice spoke.
“Izuku? Is this really you? We all thought you died! You didn't call yesterday like you said you would!”
“Sorry, I got caught up with stuff!”
The person on the other side if the line sighed before answering.
“It's fine, just make sure you're taking good care of yourself ok? Now if you don't mind me, I need to tell everyone you're still alive, we had a mini funeral for you, you know that?”
“Really? I'm sorry for the hassle, and tell everyone I'm sorry too! Ill talk to you next week, bye!”
“Bye Izuku!” A click, and the call ended.
There was a moment of silence, everyone was once again stunned. Then the helling all started at once.
