Work Text:
Wei Wuxian, age 15, would make his way to the Gusu Lan Sect to study within the Cloud Recesses. With his brother Jiang Cheng upon the request of his precious uncle. Sect Leader Jiang Fengmian of the Yunmeng Clan. Where he would meet the Second Jade, Lan Wangji. Who, for some reason, he just couldn’t get enough of. Is that just an infatuation? Or Admiration? Or… Just a willingness to be friends? Either way, the teasing would become relentless. From all the trouble he got into, meaning he would have to spend all his time with Lan Wangji, to meals are to be taken in silence, to finally hearing the Second Jade telling him to “GET LOST!”. Other students were impressed by that since the Second Jade never spoke to anyone let alone losing his temper.
The Alpha that Lan Wangji was, was just doing something to the teens body. Which he found weird that it could happen to another Alpha. I mean, he hasn’t presented yet, but what else could he be? Being a late bloomer worried him. His brother had already presented as an Alpha and if Wei Wuxian wasn’t one…it wouldn’t end well for him back at Lotus Pier. Becoming a Beta would cause him trouble, but not much. Becoming an Omega, would cause him to be banished. Madame Yu was very proud of producing two Alpha’s. She hated him already because he wasn’t her son by blood, but couldn’t say much when Uncle Jiang brought him home. The Sect Leader felt he had a duty to keep to his best friends.
He wanted to show Lan Wangji that he could be useful and he’s not just the troublemaker that he sees everyday. Jiang Cheng and Wei Wuxian aren’t called the Twin Prides of Yunmeng for nothing. Wei Wuxian is even the Chief Disciple of Jiang Fengmian. He encouraged Sect Leader Lan Xichen to bring Jiang Cheng and himself along when they were hunting down Water Spirits. They used to catch them all the time in Lotus Pier. At first there was nothing, but then he noticed Lan Wangji’s boat. Although he was the only one on it, it was sinking more than others who had two or three people on it
“Lan Zhan!” Wei Wuxian had called out. Then using the rower, he pushed his boat towards the Jade and splashed him. Lan Wangji was quick and jumped to his brother’s side ready to give the young disciple a piece of his mind. Until the boy whacked the underside of the boat making it turn over, revealing those very water spirits they were looking for. The Sect Leader quickly said his thanks and was impressed that he knew where they were. All the while, Lan Wangji was shocked and impressed. But quickly fixed his face before anything could be seen. But of course his big brother saw. Sees through him every time. They did all they could before the Sect Leader realized, all the effort was getting them nowhere and they should retreat, regroup and rethink strategy.
But just as they all agreed, the spirits became angry. They started a whirlpool and the disciples were instructed to get on their swords so they could get away. However due to the arrogance of another disciple, they had lost their sword earlier and couldn’t get away. Wei Wuxian being who he was, went to help him. But he couldn’t get away fast enough and both were dragged down. A lot of people will say they will never believe what they saw. Even if they saw it with their own eyes! Lan Wangji had gone down to save Wei Wuxian from drowning. I mean, he grabbed the boy by the collar, but he still saved him.
Then came the Xuanwu of Slaughter. The clans were competing in a show of games and obstacles hosted by the Wen Clan of Qishan. What nobody really saw coming was just how cruel the clan truly was. The son of the leader, had taken the other clans leading them to said cave. Causing such a ruckus that it had woken the beast that lives there.
While the Wen clan made their way out, the others were more or less trapped. Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng swam as carefully as they could so as not to alert the monster and actually found a way out. Wei Wuxian insisted that his brother lead them out while he caused a distraction. After a bit of arguing, Jiang Cheng gave in and started ushering people out. It was going well until a disciple of the Lan Clan, shot an arrow and hit Wei Wuxian in the arm. This just so happened to be the same disciple that the boy risked his life to save not that long ago against the water spirits. Su She. He blubbers in a panic saying that he was aiming for the monster! But nobody seemed to believe him, as Lan Wangji gave him the only “wtf” look and when they reached the outside Jiang Cheng punched him in the face.
If Lan Wangji was honest, he wasn’t sure what came over him when he saved the boy from being eaten. But the next thing the Alpha knew, his leg was in between the demon’s teeth. After an amazing feat of Wei Wuxian now saving Lan Wangji, they found a place where the demon wouldn’t be able to reach them. As difficult as it was, the Second Jade had no choice but to let the boy kneel in front of him to help patch his leg up to the best of his ability. His very first mistake was letting Wei Wuxian take his headband off. You know what they say about the Lan Clan’s headband right? Of course you do! You studied there…right? Lan Wangji wanted to rip his arm off right then and there…but couldn’t. If he didn’t want his leg to get worse, he had no choice but to let him do this. He decided then and there that this meant nothing but a means of survival. They would survive and he would never have to see this boy again.
The problem is, the more the boy talked the more Lan Wangji didn’t want him to stop. They had come up with a plan on taking this monster down. With the Second Jade hurt, there was no way they were going to get out here with their lives as long as that thing was breathing. Lan Wangji roped around some guqin strings while Wei Wuxian dove in the water to look for something, anything to help wound it. Well, he came across a sword that was completely rusted. Although, it honestly didn’t look like rust and was for some reason calling out to him. When he grabbed it, he could feel a surgence of anger, regret…resentment. Unfortunately, this alerted the monster who swiftly gobbled up Wei Wuxian. Without thinking anything else, he stabbed the monster in the neck, causing it to scream in pain and then again letting out a stream of red energy.
“WEI YING!”
Lan Wangji went into a panic and started wrapping the string around the demon’s neck. He had to act fast and with everything he had, hope he wouldn’t cut Wei Wuxian down in the process. But thankfully, he didn’t. The boy just fell in the water and Lan Wangji fished him out. All the while making a mental note that Wei Ying is no longer allowed near any body of water ever again. He brought the boy back on land and leaned him against a large boulder. Coughing and wanting to close his eyes, Wei Wuxian could only make out a blurry silhouette of Lan Zhan but could unmistakably recognize his voice. The beautiful man in front of him was telling him not to go to sleep. Instead, Wei Ying asked Lan Zhan to sing a song for him. And he did. A song he’d written just then. A song no one else has ever heard. The more Lan Wangji looked at Wei Wuxian as he hummed, the more flushed the boy was becoming. Initially thinking it was a fever from being in the water and a cold cave, came to a conclusion that that was far from the case. A sweet scent mixture of lotus and something spicy he couldn’t put his finger on violently attacked his senses. Flinching and stopping the humming, his ears were then attacked with whining. Whining that sounded like music to his own ears. Lan Wangji knew what was going on and he had to move fast.
Unfortunately, his body was moving him in the wrong direction. IT was taking him towards Wei Wuxian. He had to stop. Wei Ying has no idea what’s happening right now. This would be taking advantage of him. At this point though, his Alpha was yelling. Yelling at him to get closer. Lan Wangji listened. At this point, Wei Wuxian had laid down somehow and Lan Wangji got close enough to the other’s neck and took a big breath in. Mistake. Wei Wuxian wrapped his arms around the others' necks, pulling him closer.
“Wei Ying…let go”
Went on deaf ears including his own as he stuck his face fully into the now Omega’s neck. His Alpha was screaming now. Screaming to make this Omega his. But Lan Wangji’s restraint is something else. Until he heard a meager and pleading “L-Lan Zhan…Alpha p-please” That was more than Lan Wangji needed to act on. He started biting the omega on the neck, not hard enough to leave a mating mark, but enough that the omega was a moaning mess in his ear. God, Lan Zhan needed more. Without much thinking, he got in between the smaller man’s legs and just started grinding. He knew they both needed friction, but Lan Wangji was still in no position to give Wei Wuxian all that he needed. But he would be damned if it would be anyone else to do so. He was so lost in the boy in front of him, he didn’t even realize that anyone entered the cave. Until someone yelled:
“GET AWAY FROM MY BROTHER!” It was Jiang Cheng.
Lan Wangji wrapped an arm around Wei Wuxian’s waist and let out a growled “mine.”
His own elder brother stepped forward trying to talk to him. “Wangji, you might just be confused. Let Wei-Gongzi go”
That only made the young alpha growl harder.
“This is going to be difficult, but at least they’re alright” Lan Xichen said.
“You call this alright!?” Jiang Cheng’s voice raised. “GET THE HELL OFF MY BROTHER!”
The yelling continued on and frightened the omega in his arms making him whimper. This made Lan Wangji growl to an unheard of level for him. How dare this other alpha scare his omega like that. Mine. The omega’s brother was about to step forward when he felt a hand on his shoulder. It was his father.Sect Leader Jiang made his way to the couple and bent down to look Lan Wangji in his eyes. He was still very upset, but something about the Jiang Sect Leader was calming. And he just stared at the adult. Without a word, the adult untangled his eldest disciple from the Second Jade. Lan Wangji only broke out of the trance when he heard his omega cry out and whimper from the lack of alpha. Lan Wangji was going to go after them when he was tackled to the ground. The other’s making full note of the way his leg was, avoiding further damage.
“Come A-Cheng”
With a “Hmph” from his son, they made their way back to Lotus Pier.
Needless to say, Lan Wangji was pissed. He tried everything to get away and reach Wei Ying, but he was only an alpha of 15. Against a group of full grown adults, he stood no chance. He eventually succumbed to his injuries and exhaustion, he passed out. And they were able to transport him back to Gusu.
The next time Wei Wuxian woke up, he was back in his room in Yunmeng. Unfortunately he wasn’t alone. Madame Yu was there. They had decided to send Jiang Cheng back to finish his studies at the recesses, Jiang Yanli was at the Lanling Clan’s Golden Carp Tower with her father and his anxiety was through the roof.
“I want you out”
“Wha-”
“We are a family of ALPHA’S! Do you know what it’s like to be tarnished with a child you raised to become a lowly omega?!”
“But Uncle said-”
“Shut up!! He doesn’t have any say in this. You have until tonight to get out of here. You are not welcome back and I pray for anyone who takes you in” And with that, she walked out, leaving Wei Wuxian with his thoughts.
He was scared of Madame Yu as it was, it’s best not to anger her anymore. The only regret he has is not being able to say goodbye to his little brother or big sister. The angry alpha deliberately had them sent away so they wouldn’t be able to argue with her. And bless Sect Leader Jiang’s heart, he has no backbone when it comes to his wife. So, he packed what little he had and just walked. He felt like a pariah. Just for being an omega. Something he had no control over.
But Madame Yu wasn’t done being cruel just yet. She called over a “doctor” from a neighboring clan to perform a procedure. You see, since her husband was the one that saved Wei Wuxian way back when, that it only makes sense that his golden core belonged to the Jiang’s. When it came down to it…who was he to argue?
Wei Wuxian was traveling for days, when he came across a woman carrying a basket of vegetables. It was a little old lady and she was wobbly making her way through the trees. When she lost her balance and Wei Wuxian swooped in and steadied her. Dropping some veggies in the process. But he picked them up, quickly apologizing.
“I’m sorry!” He said
The little old lady just shook her head with a smile. “You saved me from taking a tumble dearie. I should be thanking you.” Wei Wuxian smiled and put the veggies back in the basket.
“Can I help carry this for you?”
“Oh, I couldn’t possibly ask that, but thank you my dear”
“It’s no trouble, really”
“But I’m sure your family will be worried about you” She went from a smile to a frown as she saw the boy’s face drop.
“Family…is kind of complicated for me right now”
While she encouraged him to let it out, she didn’t force him. But Wei Wuxian could no longer keep anything inside. The omega that he was just needed to cry, he needed to feel like he belonged somewhere. He replayed those moments in the cave and all he wanted was to be next to Lan Wangji again. The little old lady listened. And she listened without judgment. She felt her heart break with the tears that were now streaming down the young man’s face. She asked him to carry the basket of veggies and held him by the arm. A way for her to make sure he wouldn’t leave. Soon enough, a makeshift village came into view. It was only then that he looked at her robe and realized that she was a Wen. But he didn’t get the awful vibe he used to get from the Wen’s he knew. All he felt was peace.
Ever since that day, she’s encouraged him that their home is now his home. And from then on, he’s helped them whenever he can. For at least 7 years, this was his life and he absolutely loved it. From fishing, to gardening, to going to the market.
If there’s one thing we all know, is that Wei Wuxian was never one for staying still. He decided that, omega or not, he would provide protection for his new family. So he studied and studied and developed a new cultivation. Of the demonic variety. He is now known as the Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation. (Roll credits!…wait not yet!) Being an omega, it was clear that no one would take him seriously. So, he created a powerful weapon. Wei Wuxian called it, The Yin Tiger Tally. If controlling corpses were frightening enough, what about being able to control anything and everything in his path.
He was in town one day when he was met with a familiar face. An angelic face, an unmoving face in white robes. Just by the sandalwood scent, there was no question that it was Lan Zhan. The very same alpha that his omega craves. But he didn’t deserve someone like Lan Wangji. The Second Jade deserves the world. And right now, he didn’t even have a home. He shook his head and mentally slapped himself.
“Of course you have a home, stupid.” He scolded himself quietly and went about his business. “Uh oh” He had to stop and hold onto a wall. He swears his heats are absolutely against him. Why did it want to start now?! Just because Lan Wanghi was around? He tried to hobble away quickly before anyone noticed.
But that didn’t stop the alpha from picking up on his scent. He quickly turned his head in the direction of the lotus and spice and caught a glimpse of the red ribbon he knew so well. It’s been so damn long since he was ripped away from Wei Ying, that he wasn’t going to let him go now. He made his way to the omega, when the possessive alpha reared his head. His omega was going into heat and another alpha was making his way towards Wei Ying while his back was turned. Lan Wangji got to him quickly though and knocked the unknown alpha away from his mate.
“Lan Zhan” At this point, Wei Wuxian was whining. Loudly, while clinging onto Lan Wangji’s robes.
The alpha picked him up and found an inn that was specifically for heat stays and paid the owner handsomely to keep anyone and everyone away while they were there. Not just for Wei Wuxian’s sake, but do you know how he would be excommunicated from his clan. Shufu would have his head. But he wasn’t letting his omega go through this alone, again. They were both adults…and his alpha instincts were winning this time.
They spent Wei Wuxian’s heat together. Taking full advantage of each other’s body until the omega was satiated. All of the tender kisses and touches between the two were everything they ever wanted. Lan Wangji made sure Wei Wuxian knew just how much he loved him. Though he honestly wanted to ravish him until he was truly screaming, but that would have to wait. This was their first time and Lan Zhan made sure to taste every inch of his Wei Ying. Slowly, until he got to those delicious folds. Definitely ravishing those until Wei Ying was moaning his name over and over again, asking, pleading for release. But this is where Lan Zhan was being selfish. He wanted to feel Wei Ying come on his cock. So, that’s exactly what he did. Wei Ying came a few times and Lan Wangji still couldn’t get enough, but he wasn’t going to last much longer. He eventually came deep inside his omega. Deep inside.
The only issue…Lan Wangji had knotted the omega. It was now a guessing game on if the knot would take. Which would mean the omega would be pregnant in no time. This sent the gray eyed man into a panic attack.
“Why?! Why?!” He yelled.
“Wei Ying”
“Lan Zhan! Do you know what’s going to happen?! If anyone in Gusu finds out that I could possibly be having a child, let alone the Second Jade’s child! They’re going to tell your Uncle and then I’m a dead man!” He was breathing heavily now.
“Wei Ying. You need to breathe. I will not let anyone do anything to you. Even if Shufu commands it. They will not touch you. I will bring you back to Gusu and we will…”
At that Wei Wuxian shot up, like he was going to run away. When he really just wanted to run away from the idea.
“ABSOLUTELY NOT!” He then started to pacing. “Your Uncle already hates me from the time I studied there! He’s going to hunt me down, possibly lock me away until this baby is born, take them from me and what? Potentially kill me for touching his favorite student!?” He squatted down, covering his head with his hands and let the tears fall. “I don’t want our baby to grow up without me”
That sentence broke Lan Wangji’s heart. He knows how We Wuxian grew up. On the street with no parents. Of course he wouldn’t want any child he would bring in this world to suffer the same. He went over and wrapped his arms around his mate.
“Shufu will not find out about Wei Ying. That I promise you. I will do everything that I can to make sure you are provided for.” He squeezed him tighter as he felt Wei Ying press his face into his chest. “I regret not being able to fight harder for you that day in Xuanwu cave. I let them take you from me.”
This time it was Wei Wuxian’s turn to comfort. He let out a content lotus scent. Just enough to ground his alpha. “Lan Zhan, there was nothing we could do then. Everything was against us. Hell, the entire time I thought I was going to be an alpha like you. When it turns out I wasn’t, I just let the omega take over. But the more I thought about it, even if I was an alpha…it was always going to be you. I know I would have been chastised because an alpha pair is absurd. But that wouldn’t have mattered to me. Not if you wanted that also.” His grip tightened on the front of the white robes. “I just knew that I needed you in my life, whether it was as a mate or a friend”
“But Wei Ying deserves everything”
“And with you, I have everything”
They shared one more passionate kiss before deciding that it was time to go back to their respective residences. It was hard for both of them. To find each other after so long, to have to part again. But, Lan Wangji promised to come see Wei Ying in three days. Just to not raise suspicion with Shufu.
As he was walking back, Wei Wuxian touched his stomach. Wondering what it would like to be pregnant and now hoping with all his might that he was. If marriage wasn’t possible, he would be tethered to Lan Wangji this way. He would never ask Lan Zhan to leave the Gusu Clan, nor would he let him. When he got to the village there was one person he needed to see.
“Wei Wuxian! Where have you been?” Yelled an irate Wen Qing. Ahh, just the person he was looking for.
“Um, well…you see..”
“Quit stammering! Ninety percent of the time we can’t get you to stop talking.”
Wen Qing was being a bit harsh, but only because she cared for Wei Wuxian like a little brother. Sure she has one but she took it upon herself to adopt him too after hearing everything that he went through. And honestly, he wouldn’t complain. He missed his Shieji. And although she wouldn’t ever be replaced, having more siblings is a blessing. Blood or not.
“I…kinda went into heat when I was at the market”
“And you decided that instead of coming back home, to spend it with some random alpha?!”
“He was not just some random alpha!”
“Who was he then?!”
“Lan Zhan”
“Hanguang-Jun?! On purpose?!”
“What is that supposed to mean??”
“You have been dodging and ducking him for a while, why would you just give in to him now!?”
“He…technically saved me from another alpha…”
“And as a thank you, you sleep with him!?” Wne Qing took the time to then hit Wei Wuxian in the back of the head.
“HEY! It wasn’t like that! I wasn’t coherent enough to realize what was happening at the time. I just recognized him and felt…safe.”
The elder girl sighed, bringing her hand to her head. “I want to be angry, but he was probably the safest person you could have been with.” Wei Wuxian let out a breath of relief. “But you still need a check up. I don’t need to know the specifics, except one…did he or did he not…knot you?”
All Wei Wuxian had to do was blush and start fidgeting to get her answer.
“Okay, Okay, don’t panic. We just have to keep an eye on you for the next few days.” Her expression changed into a more serious one. “Wei Ying, Hanguang-Jun didn’t force you into taking his knot…did he?”
To say he was shocked at her accusation was an understatement. Lan Zhan would never do such a thing. I mean yea, he technically told Wei Wuxian after the fact, but he doesn’t regret taking it if that’s what she’s implying. Okay, he needs to calm down or Wen Qing is going to think she’s right.
“NO! He didn’t force me to do anything!” He brought himself back when he realized he was yelling and whispered “He would never…”
“Okay, okay. I’m sorry. I don’t know him as well as you do. But…”
Before she could finish her sentence, Wei Wuxian hugged her. “Thank you, I really do appreciate it”
She put her hand on the top of his head. “I always will, you’re like a little brother to me”
“But, you already have a little brother”
“So? Why can’t I have two? Now, no more lip. Come, I have to look you over.”
He went without question. While the thought of being pregnant made his mind race. With fear but mostly happiness. And within the next coming days, those emotions would triple…along with the morning sickness and the unbelievable sadness of not being able to drink alcohol. He was with child. And now, everything he was used to doing for the village, nobody would let him do.
Months went by and his stomach grew and grew. He wasn’t anywhere near his due date yet, but he was definitely showing. He was relaxing and talking to Wen Ning, when he heard the commotion outside. Wen Ning was trying to keep him sitting but he wouldn’t have it. Wei Wuxian pushed past the crowd of villagers and was met with a mixture of the Clan of Lanling and Moling Su. They were spewing nonsense and curses at Wei Wuxian’s clan with nothing really backing them up.
“Why must you continue to cause a war, don’t you get tired? You’re only condemning them by association. That’s like locking a child away for the sins of the parents.” After saying that, he brought his hand to his belly. But quickly put it down before anyone could notice. “They have been living here peacefully for some time. But for some reason you still want to hold a grudge. For what reason?”
They honestly couldn’t give him an answer. They were truly acting on command. The command of someone he knew, but that will come to light eventually. Unfortunately this exchange was taking a lot out of Wei Wuxian and he just wanted to go sit down. He turned to go inside the cave when he heard Wen Ning shout “Wei-Gongzi!” Turning his head to the side he saw an arrow coming towards him, but then a bright blue sword blocked it before it could reach him. Out of the corner of his eye, a tall figure in white came into view.
“It’s Hanguang-Jun! Retreat!”
Wei Wuxian smiled. “Lan Zhan, I-”
But before he could finish the thought, Lan Wangji picked him up bridal style and carried him inside.
“Lan Zhan, this isn’t necessary. I can walk just fine”
But that fell on deaf ears as the alpha just let out a “Mn” which is Lan Wangji for “I know you can, but I didn’t like what I just saw and would feel better doing it myself” So, the omega let it be. Besides, there’s no place he would rather be right now then in his alpha’s arms. Once sat down, Lan Wangji began his interrogation.
Have you been eating well? Have you been resting? You haven’t been doing anything strenuous? You haven’t been drinking right? Have you been getting checked up regularly?
Yes
Yes
No
No
Yes
This eased the Light Bearing Lord’s mind, but not by much. Especially with now an impending war upon them. And then they had the same conversation. “Come back to Gusu” And Wei Ying would give the same answer “No, I can’t just leave these people who now have become my family behind” And that would always cease the questioning. They sat in each other’s arms for what felt like an eternity. And it was very welcomed. Especially when Lan Wangji took his outer robe off and wrapped it around his omega. Making Wei Wuxian purr extra loudly. Making his heart swell even more than it already was. Wei Ying’s back was on his chest, Lan Zhan’s arms wrapped around him and his face deep in his neck. Making sure to leave his scent all over.
They were in bliss…until they heard what sounded like an explosion go off.
“Wei-Gongzi!” Wen Ning came inside out of breath. “The clans have come back and the Gusu Clan has come looking for Lan-er-gongzi”
Lan Wangji quickly made his way outside while Wei Wuxian waddled as fast as he could.
When they finally stepped outside they were met with a flurry of noises, including a clearing of ones throat. It was Lan Qiren. While he wasn’t sure what was to come, he was still respectful. He bowed and let out a “Shufu”
“Wangji, this is where you have been coming to for days at a time?”
“Yes Shufu”
“I would expect you to have a good explanation.”
“I-”
Lan Wangji was cut off by another voice. That, belonging to the leader of the Moling Su Clan.
“There is no good reason to be fraternizing with those who abandoned their clan. Not to mention someone who was expelled from his own.”
Hanguang-Jun tightened his fist as he saw Wei Wuxian look down in sadness.
“No one here has done anything to warrant such a verbal attack let alone a physical one. I do not have to explain anything.”
“Wangji, I want you to come back home this instant.”
“Wangji” His elder brother made his presence known. “Please, bring Young Master Wei back to the recesses and we can speak about this.”
“There is nothing to speak about. Wei Wuxian will not be coming back with us.”
“Shufu please. Something seems to be…”
“Enough Xichen. Wangji, let’s go. I can’t believe that this is what the merchants have been wasting their threads on when you ask for new robes.” Lan Qiran stated while pointing at Wei Wuxian.
“No.”
“Excuse me?”
“I will not leave Wei Ying”
This is not going to end well. Wei Wuxian gently grabbed his alpha’s arm, calming him down.
“Lan Zhan, I think you should go with them. The punishment might not be so bad if you just-”
“Quiet Wei Wuxian! This matter does not concern you!” Lan Qiran all but yelled at him. Making him jump and shirk back,
“DO NOT YELL AT HIM” Lan Wagji raised his voice at hi Shufu. Something he has never done.
“I do not know what’s gotten into you but I’m sure Wei Wuxian is to blame”
As this war of words was going on, Wei Wuxian was trying to usher his clan into the cave so they would be safe. Some stood beside the pair to help fend off the enemy. Some came charging but were deflected by the warriors and Hanguang-Jun.
Lan Qiren and Lan Xichen were not just going to attack Lan Wangji. But at this point it escalated to a scary degree. Even if they wanted to step in, there wasn’t much they could do. The Second Jade seemed to be handling things, until they noticed a sword coming right for his back. They had no time to react, even if they did they were still too far away. They would never reach him on time.
But someone did notice. Wei Wuxian saw the sword and immediately hopped into action. He ran towards his husband and took the blade right through the chest. Lan Wangji turned around in time to watch the entire horror scene with his own eyes. He dropped Bichen to catch Wei Wuxian before he hit the ground. The sword returned to its owner, making Wei Wuxian cough up blood as the sword left.
“WEI YING!” Lan Wangji screamed as he cradled his wife to his chest. Staining his robes wet. Although since his love was still wearing his outer robe, that happened regardless. Lan Wangji was doing everything he could think of to stop the bleeding, but nothing was working. He was brought out of his panic when a hand touched his face. He closed his eyes and nuzzled the hand.
“Lan Zhan”
“Wei Ying” He said quietly.
“Don’t cry. I don’t regret what I did or have done.” Wei Wuxian chuckled, painfully by the way. “When you think about it, this might be for the best.”
“No more talking Wei Ying…please.” Lan Wangji pleaded. His heart racing feeling his beloved’s hand get colder and colder with every word.
Wei Ying let out a full blown laugh. “But Since I have a mouth, I can’t help but keep talking!”
So, Lan Zhan did the one thing that always shut him up. With a passionate kiss that left even the audience breathless. He pulled away reluctantly, looking at how pale his wife had become.
“I love you, Er-Gege.”
“I love Wei Ying.”
He waited. And waited. And then, nothing.
Those bright gray eyes that shone brighter than the moon itself, now held the same color as the gravel around them. That smile that was only meant for him, still plastered the face of his love. With tears in his own eyes, closed the perished ones he used to know. Laying him down gently with one last kiss to his forehead, he turned to the one the sword belonged to.
With the deepest growl he’s ever mustered without even trying he let out a “WHY!?”
The murderer only chuckled. “Why? Why!? I’ll tell you why! I hate you. No matter what I did you were always so much better than I was. No one could ever be as good as the Second Jade, no one could compare. To the arrogant, smug, nose up in the air person that you are. But, at some point, I accepted it. I would just be the third greatest behind the Twins. But then that…thing showed up!” Su She angrily pointed at Wei Wuxian. “Always breaking the rules but somehow still getting higher marks than me! I will never understand it!”
Su She was stomping his foot around with every word like a petulant child. But he continued. Sporting a frightening smile.
“I will admit during the water spirits case, I did get a little over confident. But after being saved by that thing, I knew I was in his debt, and I absolutely hated it.”
Lan Wangji was shaking in anger. He knew he was getting under the Jade’s skin with every word.
“DEBT!? Wei Ying didn’t save you to be owed! He did it out of the kindness of his heart! Although I regret him saving you, I’m sure he doesn’t because that’s just the kind of person he is!”
“I think you mean was…”
The air around the battlefield stilled to a frightening degree.
“In any case, I don’t have any regrets…now or in Xuanwu cave”
The air around Lan Wangji thickened. He knew deep down Su She shot Wei Ying with that arrow on purpose. No doubt he would have enjoyed the punch Jiangh Cheng gave him when they escaped. Something was glowing its way out of the cave. No one knew exactly to what degree of damage this thing could do, but they were about to find out. The YinTiger Tally found its way to Lan Wangji. He was going to stick his hand out to grab it, but was stopped with a shout.
“Wangji! Please wait!” It was his older brother.
“Wangji, let’s talk about this. Don’t do anything rash!” Lan Qiran shouted next.
Lan Wangji surprised all of them by letting out a chuckle.
“Talk…TALK!? You didn’t want to talk before! There was nothing to talk about then and there’s nothing to talk about now! You were the main reason Wei Ying wouldn’t come back to Gusu! You never liked Wei Ying from the beginning. If I did bring him back, you would have locked him away like you did mother!” Tears were streaming down his face, finally understanding where his love was coming from whenever he brought this up. “I never got to see her, I can’t even remember what she looks like!! And I would be damned, if Wei Ying couldn’t see our child grow up!”
Our child…CHILD!?
Both of the elder Lan’s looked over at Wei Wuxian’s lifeless body. And sure enough, there was a medium sized baby bump. Being so focused on one thing really blinds you from other important things.
Lan Wangji finally reached out towards the Yin Tiger Tally. The object immediately felt the utter resentment simply radiating from Hanguang-Jun and granted its attention. Turning the once white robes black and the once blue clouds red. He could now see the appeal of the dark colors. And finally, the pristine white ribbon around his forehead, loosened and fell. The tally made sure the ribbon didn’t touch the floor and landed on Wei Wuxian, who it knew the ribbon rightfully belonged to.
Lan Wangji with his eyes now red, turned his gaze back to Su She. Holding the tally in his direction, he ordered the black tentacles to grab hold of the sect leader.
“You took everything from me, now I will do the same to you.”
Was the last thing Su She heard before feeling the rip through his chest, removing his core. Waving it in front of his face and crushing it with all his might. Even though he would have only needed half of it.
Then the other soldiers around him started their charge. They weren’t sure what they would do, but he had to be stopped. Lan Wangji showed no emotion as he easily fought them off. Even a crowd of 20 cultivators wasn’t enough.
Lan Xichen hated this. His baby brother was hurting but there was nothing he could do to console him. He can’t blame him for acting out, but he also can’t sit back and watch him become no better than what they thought Wei Wuxian was like. His uncle himself was too shocked to act. Wangji was strong, stronger than most. His cultivation was amongst the highest in their sect alone. It wouldn’t stop him, but it would give the others a chance.
Lan Xichen looked Lan Wangji in the eyes and said “I’m sorry” before saying the words; “Freeze”
He was waiting for the ire of his baby brother, but it never came. Instead Wangji mouthed out the words; “Thank you” And watched how the one person he loves more than anything, be cut down the same way the love of his life had been.
Lan Wangji fell right next to Wei Wuxian. With the last of his body strength, he reached out and entwined his fingers with the cold ones of his beloved’s. He accepted his fate. Letting only the music soothe him. Humming a song, a song no one would ever know the title to. They didn’t deserve to know. Punctuating the ending of the melody with;
“Wait for me, Wei Ying”
