Chapter Text
This is painful. And annoying. It hinders your whole day and feels unfair.
There’s simply no position within which you feel comfortable. Your butt hurts, your tailbone stings, your ovaries are fighting to the death. You’ve already taken the ibuprofen, and a hot water bottle is pressed onto your lower stomach, so close that the heat almost stings, so why does it still hurt so much?
You can’t help the bubble of irritation in your chest. Maybe what’s wrong — besides your cruel bodily functions — is the fact that your “handsome, tender, loving, caring” boyfriend is not yet home from the grocery store. He’s been out all day already for work, and now you have to wait for him to come back with the groceries you asked him to get. That’s on you.
When you hear the sound of the key turning in the lock, there’s instant satisfaction spreading in your veins. You’re finally getting your kisses after — what feels like a difficult four years but is really only — a long day without him. You listen quietly for his footsteps as he walks inside the kitchen, putting the groceries where they belong, before heading towards your shared bedroom.
With a whisper of your name, he greets you. “Hi, my love.” You melt, as he walks towards your bed, to find you splayed onto it. You grunt in response because a cramp is trying to suck you into oblivion just at that moment. The man coos before approaching you, joining you onto the bed and carefully wrapping you in his embrace.
His every move is tender.
He takes your hand first, presses a little kiss on your palm before he bends a little, to press his lips to your temple, then the bridge of your nose, followed by your eyelids, and your forehead and finally your lips.
“I missed you all day.” He says, and as it always does, warmth spreads through your chest.
“And yet you didn’t ditch your silly job to hang out with me.”
“I should have but I need to keep my silly job so I can spoil my silly girlfriend.”
Each of his words is pressed directly into the skin of your neck, where his face has found respite, almost in the form of kisses. You can’t relish in his affection for too long because they’re cut by another one of your cramps. He notices immediately, his hand delicately caresses your face as it passes.
He’s been keeping a careful eye on your medication intake, so he knows you’ll have to wait a couple more hours before being able to take another pill to help. A system you’ve put in place together a few months into your relationship. All he asks is that you text him what you took so he can keep count for you.
To alleviate the pain a little, he offers to cuddle, and he maintains the hot water bottle on your lower stomach for you, while he tells you about his entire day. You want to take care of him after work, he always has to bend over backwards for his students, but you can’t on days like this. He’s told you he loves when you care for him, but he loves caring for you too, so you let him.
Every time he pauses to think of what to say next, he brings your hand to his lips, leaving the faintest of kisses on your fingertips. You’ve counted fourteen since he’s joined you in the bed. You always count them, collecting Satoru’s kisses like they’re precious things, even if they’re gone after a few seconds. If you could bottle the feeling they give you, you would. Then you’d get drunk off it to distract you from the period pain probably.
“You know, we could get this pain to stop for a while if you just let me put a ba-”
“Don’t you finish that sentence!” You giggle. It isn’t the first time he proposes this form of pain-relief, or so he calls it. “Not until you put a ring on it.”
“Soon.” He responds without missing a beat. You don’t know, but he’s finally gotten your ring done. After having it designed just for you and working hard to plan a proposal, he was so close. It was hard for him not to tell you everything, he hadn’t hidden a thing from you for the past two years — spoiling a few surprises here and there, even. “And then I can put a bab-”
“I’ll consider it then.” You cut him off, pressing your lips to his so you can really stop him.
