Work Text:
Chifuyu and Kazutora jump into the car ready to give chase, adrenaline rushing in their veins. Kazutora can almost taste the roar of the engine.
Chifuyu presses the ignition. the car dings and beeps to life.
Oh, right.
Kazutora snickers.
“What?”
“Nothing.”
Chifuyu backs out of where they’d parked, the car beeping in reverse. Kazutora ducks his head and curls in on his body to hide his trembling laughter.
“C’mon, spit it out!”
The other man covers his lips with a fist. Face turning red from his denied laughter. Fond eyes look over at him, watering at the edges. He bites his lip harder. “You’re so tame,” he whimpers.
“Tame huh? This car is superfast and quiet you know.”
“I don’t care!” Apparently he's reached his breaking point as he explodes in the car. He points a slender finger toward the ignition button. “What is that?! Where are the keys? Where’s the badass roar of the engine!” His hands raised towards heaven, praying to the car gods who Chifuyu doesn’t seem to worship. “Whatever happened to vroom vroom while I was gone!”
Chifuyu continues to speed away, Kazutora losing his mind in the passenger seat.
The Kazutora he knows is quiet, subdued. Weighed down by guilt and the burden of blood on his hands. But moments like this, few and far in between, he gets to see a glimpse of the Kazutora that the founders knew. The Kazutora that Baji devoted his short life to. He's seen for himself how he fights with bare hands to protect. Wild and fast, moving in a blur of black and yellow. Been told of how he and Baji had met. How he protected his weasel of a friend with fierce eyes and determination. Taking on Baji Keisuke of all people.
They've told him of his light hearted teasing, his banter and his bright smile as he laughed at all the stupid things they did. Just like now. This is a side of Kazutora he wants to know.
“ You don’t even know how to drive a manual.” He retorts weakly.
“I’ll freakin learn just so I don’t have to deal with this crap!”
“Well the only way
I’m
teaching you to drive is with an auto.”
He doesn’t anticipate the slow turning of the head and the squinting of his eyes. ”You never learned to drive stick, did you?” Chifuyu chooses silence. He snickers. “You’re so cute.”
“Shut up.”
