Today marks a year since Tommy’s world was turned upside down, yet he can’t find it in himself to be mad at Dr. Wells for causing it. He’s just glad he finally has control over his powers. Tommy flew over Central City a year ago in a cold helicopter when the particle accelerator exploded, giving him ice and snow powers.
“Have you always been this cold to the touch?” Evan asks curiously after their first time having sex, bringing a tired chuckle out of Tommy.
“Not always, no,” Tommy says vaguely and distracted, busy drawing little invisible snowflakes on Evan’s bare skin.
“When did it start?” Evan says, clearly wanting to learn everything that he can about Tommy, which makes Tommy melt into the mattress a little.
“A year ago today I was flying over a city in Missouri when an accident happened and my helicopter crashed in a field and I’ve run cold ever since,” Tommy says, only giving half of the reason to protect Evan.
“I don’t think I’ve ever heard of a helicopter crash making someone run cold, but it’s kinda cool,” Evan says while leaning up to kiss Tommy again before he’s interrupted by Tommy’s phone going off. Tommy checks his phone and sees that it’s Barry who’s calling him and Tommy doesn’t hesitate to pick up the phone, hoping Barry’s alright.
“Hey Bare, what’s up? Is everything okay? Are you okay?” Tommy says worriedly, unaware of the spiral it puts Evan through until he looks down at him and sees the turmoil in Evan’s eyes.
“I need your help with Wells.” Tommy looks down at Evan and feels his heart break at the tears welling up in Evan’s eyes so Tommy decides to let the boys handle this problem without his help this time.
“Do you think that you can ask Ollie and Ronnie instead? I don’t wanna leave my boyfriend alone tonight.” Tommy says while running his fingers through Evan’s hair, hoping the move will ease Evan’s mind.
“I’ll see if they’ll help,” Barry says before hanging up, leaving Evan and Tommy in silence.
“Are you cheating on me?” Evan says while crying, making Tommy feel like dying because he promised himself that he’ll always protect Evan from harm and pain just to be the cause of Evan’s pain in the end.
“Baby I would never do that to you, trust me. Me and Barry’s relationship is hard to explain but believe me, it is not romantic at all.” Tommy says while making Evan look him in the eyes so Evan knows that Tommy isn’t lying to him because Tommy would happily commit crimes if Evan asked him to, but he can’t say the same about Barry.
“You promise that you aren’t with him like that?” Evan says in such a small voice that Tommy can’t not cry at the desperation in Evan’s voice.
“Never have been, never will be,” Tommy says in a whisper, not really trusting his voice to do much more than that because of all of his emotions. Tommy is shocked when Evan wipes his tears for him, something no one has ever done for Tommy. The Next day Buck is cooking lunch for the 118 when a man comes in looking for him.
“Hi, I’m looking for Evan Buckley and I heard that he’s supposed to be here today,” Wells says to Hen in a false-friendly tone of voice in hopes of making her trust him. Wells remembers that Tommy had mentioned that the 118 are very protective of each other, so Wells has to make them think that he doesn’t mean Evan any harm.
“That depends on why you’re looking for him,” Eddie says while grabbing the axe he just placed on the truck defensively and walking in front of the stairs to protect Buck. Wells takes note of the protective way that the firefighter stands in front of the stairs and rolls his head to see if Evan is at the top of the stairs and makes eye contact with Evan.
“I’m close with Tommy and he wanted me to make sure that Evan was okay,” Wells says, knowing that Evan will ask Eddie to let him through if it concerns the man he loves. As Wells thinks, it works like a charm and Evan is quickly telling Eddie to put the axe back and something else that Wells guesses is in Spanish. Wells is about to walk up the stairs to his target when a ball of ice hits him in the back and flings him across the station. He gets up and turns around to speed at Tommy when he suddenly realizes he can’t access his speed. Wells quickly catches on that Tommy created the ice to melt into Wells’ back and slow him down, easily eliminating his speed.
“I must say, Icestorm, I’m quite proud of how far you’ve come in the last year, too bad you won’t survive the day,” Wells says while getting up and grabbing the discarded axe and turning toward Tommy, not expecting the arrow to the shoulder.
“I must say, Wells, I’m quite disappointed that you actually thought that I’d show up alone,” Tommy says in the same demeaning tone that Wells used on Tommy a minute ago while Oliver, Barry, and Firestorm walk up to him.
“How long can you keep the ice in his system?” Oliver says to Tommy, who is currently controlling the ice that is inside of Wells. Tommy closes his eyes to sense how long he has before the ice melts and doesn’t like the result that he gets.
“The ice will melt in 65.4 seconds and then it’ll take him 5 seconds after that to regain his speed, we need to move fast. Pun very much intended.” Tommy says while willing the ice to stay solid for 60 extra seconds to buy them a little more time. Tommy gets a positive response and sets his watch for 125.4 seconds and shows it to the others.
