When Gaz first met Soap, they didn't have much time to talk, Price's orders were like rapid fire and they couldn't do anything but follow.
Soap wasn't an addition to the unit, he was a borrowed gun, and left as soon as it was all said and done.
But he came back, and even if they didn't have time to get to know each other back then either, when they were back at base and done with debriefing, Gaz found himself drawn to the man he had only met once before.
They clicked like two peas in a pod. Gaz and Soap were good with each other, and were good for each other. Soap was a distraction from the voices in his head, and a motivation to push himself past his limit when their training sessions started getting too boring to bear.
Neither of them noticed it when Soap would start going to Gaz's quarters in the middle of the night, it just happened after some point. Gaz would read whatever Soap would write, and there would be a comfortable silence embracing them.
And when Gaz started going to Soap's room whenever the other man wouldn't show, none of them said anything about it either.
It was difficult to tell exactly when it happened, but after a high risk OP, Kyle finally met John.
He met John as the other man curled up beside him for the first time, mindful of the injuries they both sported on their bodies.
John wasn't the bubbly and cocky Sergeant Gaz met. John was a quiet, soft and honestly breathtaking man who couldn't help but hold Kyle tight as if afraid he'd disappear out of thin air.
They couldn't stick together most times when out in the field. Ghost was John's duo out there, the one having the privilege of watching John's back and call him ‘Johnny’ like he owned the other man.
And maybe he did, in a way. Maybe, even if only slightly and subtle to the naked eyes, Ghost owned Johnny, owned the sassy, skilled, brave and humorous Johnny that Gaz wished he got to see out there.
But when the night falls, wherever they are, back at base, inside a random room in a safehouse, or even out in the wild with only the hard ground under their bodies, it was Kyle who got to hold John.
It was Kyle who got to kiss John's face, got to feel said kisses being returned. It was Kyle who heard John's pleas for his safety, who heard the prayers for a God only Kyle knew John was devoted to.
It was Kyle who felt that body on his, and felt the way they would fit so perfectly with each other, as if made for that sole purpose.
Ghost may have Johnny.
But it was Kyle who had John, and it was John who would retire when the time came.
It was John who would leave the military one day and get a nice little cabin somewhere safe and live a peaceful life with a cat or dog for company.
And it was Kyle who would be there with him, to hold him close every night and tell him all the praises, all the ‘I love you’s and all the promises they both already knew by heart.
