Chapter 1: Love At First Bite

Chapter Text

The streets buzzed with the familiar hum of the evening crowd, a rhythm that danced in the background of Sana’s thoughts as she adjusted the focus on her camera. The low murmur of voices, the sizzling of food being cooked on carts nearby, and the occasional bursts of laughter blended together, creating a lively symphony. The soft glow of streetlights cast a warm golden hue over the scene, making it feel like something out of a movie. As she hit record, Sana’s face lit up with her usual infectious energy. Her followers were going to love this.

“Okay, guys!” she began, her voice clear and bright as she spoke directly to the camera. “We’re here at one of the most hyped food trucks in the city—Tzuyu’s Tteokbokki Truck! Now, you know how much I live for finding these hidden gems, and this one’s been on my radar for weeks! Apparently, it’s the best tteokbokki you’ll ever have, so I’m here to see if it lives up to the hype.” She gave the camera a playful wink before cutting the recording, a grin still lingering on her lips. The air was thick with the rich scents of Korean street food, but there was something else in the atmosphere tonight—something more electric, something that had nothing to do with food.

As Sana joined the queue, her eyes casually scanned the setup. The food truck was simple but elegant, painted in a sleek black with subtle gold accents. It stood out among the more colorful, chaotic stalls surrounding it, exuding a quiet confidence. It had style, class, and an understated charm that felt...different. But that wasn’t what made Sana stop dead in her tracks.

It was her.

Sana’s breath hitched, her heart skipping an entire beat as she caught sight of the woman behind the counter. For a moment, everything else faded—the sounds of the street, the chatter of the people around her, even the tantalizing smell of the food. All of it dimmed, leaving only the vision in front of her.

Tzuyu moved behind the counter with an effortless grace, as though she belonged in an entirely different world—somewhere timeless and ethereal. She was tall, her figure slender yet strong, framed by the loose black apron tied around her waist. Her hair was pulled back into a low, messy bun, with a few stray strands falling perfectly across her face, softening her striking features. The streetlights illuminated her skin, giving her a warm, golden glow that contrasted beautifully with her dark hair and deep, expressive eyes. Those eyes were calm, focused, yet they held an unspoken depth—a hushed intensity that seemed to draw Sana in from across the crowd.

Sana blinked, trying to remind herself to breathe. She had seen beautiful women before—hell, her job as a vlogger had her meeting interesting people all the time—but this was different. There was something about Tzuyu, something more than just her physical beauty. It was the way she moved, with such confidence, her hands working with precision as she prepared the orders, her every gesture fluid and controlled. Even from a distance, it was clear that Tzuyu was someone who took pride in her work, but there was no arrogance in it—only grace.

Sana’s heart thudded heavily in her chest, and she felt a strange flutter in her stomach. For the first time in a long time, she found herself at a loss for words. She couldn’t look away. It was as though the world had narrowed, focusing solely on this woman in front of her, making everything else seem trivial in comparison.

As the line moved, inching forward, Sana couldn’t shake the feeling that something significant was about to happen. Her feet carried her toward the front of the line, but her mind was somewhere else—somewhere swirling with the sudden rush of emotions that Tzuyu had stirred in her without even knowing it. When she finally reached the counter, the world seemed to slow.

Tzuyu looked up from the dish she had been preparing, her eyes locking onto Sana’s. And in that single moment, the air between them shifted, crackling with something unspoken but undeniably powerful. Sana’s heart leapt into her throat, and she swore she could hear it pounding in her ears. Up close, Tzuyu was even more breathtaking. Her high cheekbones and sharp jawline gave her a striking, almost regal look, but it was softened by the kindness in her eyes and the gentle curve of her lips. Her skin seemed to glow under the dim lights, and the way she carried herself—calm, poised—made her seem almost otherworldly.

Tzuyu’s voice, when it came, was smooth and low, carrying a warmth that contrasted with the coolness of her appearance. “What can I get for you?” she asked, her eyes never leaving Sana’s face.

Sana blinked, her usual quick wit faltering under the intensity of Tzuyu’s gaze. Her mind raced, but all she could manage was a flustered, “Uh, tteokbokki. Extra spicy. And... kimbap, too, please.”

Tzuyu nodded, her expression calm as she turned away to prepare the order. But Sana could still feel the lingering heat of her gaze, like a spark that had been ignited in the brief exchange. She watched as Tzuyu moved, her hands deftly assembling the food with practiced skill, every motion precise and fluid. There was beauty in the way she worked, as though each dish was a work of art being crafted by someone who truly cared.

Sana couldn’t help but steal glances at her, her eyes tracing the elegant lines of Tzuyu’s face, the way her lips pressed together in concentration, the delicate curve of her fingers as she carefully placed the tteokbokki into a tray. There was something almost hypnotic about watching her, like Sana was witnessing something private, something intimate in the way Tzuyu poured herself into her work.

When Tzuyu finally turned back, holding out the dish with a small, polite smile, their hands brushed—just for a moment, just long enough for Sana to feel a rush of warmth flood through her. Her skin tingled where they had touched, and for a brief second, Tzuyu’s eyes flicked up to meet hers, something unreadable but intense flashing in their depths. Sana felt her breath catch again, her heart racing as if trying to catch up with the sudden flood of emotions crashing over her.

“Enjoy,” Tzuyu said softly, her voice like a gentle breeze, but it felt like more than just a simple exchange. There was something in the way she said it, the way her eyes lingered just a heartbeat longer than necessary.

Sana managed a shaky smile, clutching the food in her hands as if it were an anchor in the storm of feelings threatening to overwhelm her. “Thanks,” she whispered, barely trusting her voice to stay steady.

She turned and made her way to a nearby bench, her legs feeling slightly unsteady as she sat down. The camera was set up in front of her, the tteokbokki steaming in her hands, but for once, Sana wasn’t focused on the food or her vlog. All she could think about was Tzuyu—the way her presence had filled the air, the spark of connection that had passed between them in that fleeting moment.

Taking a bite of the tteokbokki, Sana let the spice wash over her, but it barely registered. All she could feel was the flutter in her chest, the quickened pulse that hadn’t slowed since she’d first laid eyes on Tzuyu. This wasn’t just another food truck, and this wasn’t just another review. This was something more, something she couldn’t quite put into words yet, but she knew—she’d be back.
