Work Text:

In the dense mists of the Flower-Fruit Mountain, amidst the whispering winds and rustling leaves.

Lived two extraordinary beings, both shaped from the same divine stone that once split open to birth Sun Wukong, the Monkey King. Liu'er, the Six-Eared Macaque, was his mirror image in every way—mischievous, strong, and clever, with a heart just as wild and free.

Liu'er had always admired Sun Wukong from afar. As they both trained under the same master, Patriarch Subodhi, Liu'er grew to love the Monkey King, not just for his strength and courage but for his spirit that echoed his own.

Sun Wukong, unaware of his affection, saw him as a kindred spirit and often sparred with him in friendly bouts.

They shared countless adventures, each more thrilling than the last, and in those moments, Liu'er's heart beat faster, hoping Wukong would one day see him as more than just a reflection of himself.

One fateful day, when the heavens themselves seemed to weep with rain, Liu'er decided to confess his love. As they sat beneath an ancient banyan tree, its twisted roots like the intertwined destinies of their lives, Liu'er spoke of his feelings, his voice trembling with the weight of his emotions.

But Sun Wukong, ever the trickster and warrior, laughed it off, thinking it was another one of their playful games.

Seeing the pain in his eyes, Wukong realized his mistake too late. He reached out, but Liu'er, his heart shattered, turned away. He fled into the forest, his tears mingling with the rain, each drop echoing the pain in his heart.

Wukong, torn between his confusion and a strange ache in his chest, let him go, thinking he needed time.

Days turned into weeks, and Liu'er did not return. Sun Wukong, who had thought their bond unbreakable, began to worry. He searched high and low, through forests and mountains, across rivers and valleys, but Liu'er was nowhere to be found. It was as if he had vanished into thin air, taking with him the laughter and light that once filled their days.

Unbeknownst to Wukong, Liu'er had sought solace in the depths of a secluded cave, where he nursed his broken heart and tried to forget the Monkey King. But his love for him was too deep, too intertwined with his very being.

In his solitude, He realized that he could never forget him, nor could he bear the pain of being near him without being seen for who he truly was.

Desperate to change his fate, Liu'er sought out a powerful sorceress, begging her to transform him into something else, anything that would ease his pain.

The sorceress, moved by Liu'er's sorrow, granted him a wish but warned that the transformation would come with a price.

Without hesitation, Liu'er agreed, and with a wave of the sorceress's hand, He was transformed into a stone statue, his form frozen in a moment of silent grief.

Meanwhile, Sun Wukong's search continued, his heart growing heavier with each passing day. It was during his travels that he encountered the sorceress, who, seeing the depth of his despair, revealed what had happened to Liu'er.

Stricken with guilt and sorrow, Wukong rushed to the cave where Liu'er now stood as a statue, his six ears etched in stone, forever listening to the winds of a love that could never be.

He fell to his knees before him, tears streaming down his face, as he realized the depth of his love and the pain he had caused. He begged for his forgiveness, his voice echoing through the cave, but the stone remained silent, unmoved by his pleas.

In his grief, Sun Wukong vowed to stay by his side, never leaving him again. He sat there for years, the once lively and mischievous Monkey King now a somber guardian of his lost love.

He whispered stories to him, tales of their adventures, and of the world beyond the cave, hoping that somewhere within the cold stone, Liu'er could hear him and know that he loved him too.

But the curse was irreversible, and Liu'er remained a statue, his heart forever encased in stone.

Sun Wukong's regret grew with each passing day, his laughter lost to the winds, his spirit dimmed. And though they never spoke again, their souls were forever bound, echoes of a love that could have been, in the eternal silence of the cave.

And so, the Flower-Fruit Mountain mourned the loss of its two greatest beings, their tale of unspoken love and endless regret becoming a legend whispered among the trees, carried by the winds, and etched into the hearts of those who knew the pain of love unfulfilled.
