Work Text:
Wolf and Song entered the clothing store, looking around the large space to know where to start. Since joining the Oak's, Wolf had started to grow taller. And fast.
Song was happy that the girl was eating healthily and walking outside, but that meant that her old black t-shirt and grey jeans weren't cutting it out anymore.
Wolf needed new clothes, even if the girl was reluctant to it. She was comfortable wearing the exact same clothes day in and day out, except for at night where Kipo had convinced her to borrrow her old pajamas.
Yet, Wolf was tired of having to pull her shirt down everytime she moved to make sure that it covered her stomach. Her jeans pinched her legs tightly and it was a struggle to pull them over her growing hips. Even bending over was dangerous.
Despite the fact that she didn't want to go shopping, even she knew that she desperately needed to.
They did a quick search through the pants section, easily finding a pair of grey jeans that were identical to the ones Wolf always wore. They only thing that was different was the size. Wolf happily grabbed three pairs and handed them to Song who put them in her bag.
"That was easy enough. Let's search for shirts."
Wolf followed Song closely as they aimlessly wandered through the store in search of anything that Wolf could wear. It was easier said than done.
No matter where they looked, all the clothes were colorful and printed with silly pictures and stupid quotes. Even glitter.
So, so much glitter...
Wolf sighed. The darkest piece of fabric they found was a dark purple shirt that wasn't even her size.
How hard could it be to find a black, plain, short-sleeved t-shirt!?
Song suggested shirt after shirt, but Wolf didn't want any of them. She wanted her black shirt.
They were on the verge of giving up and go to a less popular store down the road, when Song's eyes settled on something black peeking out between two pink shirts. A smile grew on her face immediately.
"Wolf, look!" she exclaimed, rushing up to her item of interest.
She picked it up and her smile instantly dropped. From the side, she hadn't been able to see the large print that decorated the front. It was a white skull with a pink rose in its mouth.
Other than the print, the shirt was perfect. It was Wolf's size and short-sleeved, just the way she liked it. "Ah, I'm sorry, Wolf," Song apologized with a frown.
She was about to put the shirt back when Wolf stopped her, staring intently at the shirt.
In all honesty, Wolf didn't hate it. The skull itself wasn't that bad. If anything, she thought that it looked cool and fit her personality well. Plus, it made her look older. More teenagery. She was only eleven, but she was starting school for the first time after summer and she wanted to fit in. Everyone her age wore clothes like that. Maybe it wasn't that bad...?
"What's wrong, Wolf?" Song asked when her daughter only kept staring at the shirt.
"We... We can buy it," Wolf spoke up after a minute of silence.
Song was shocked to say the least. "Really? What about the print?"
"I kinda like it. The skull is cool," Wolf shrugged.
"The pink rose, then? You don't like pink."
"I don't mind it. Plus, I think Kipo will like it," Wolf said, grinning at the thought of showing Kipo the shirt.
Ever since she moved in with them, Kipo had been trying to convince her to wear something more colorful. Wolf had said 'no' every single time.
A smile grew on Song's face. "Well, then! Let's buy it!"
She let Wolf take the shirt and carry it towards the checkout where they paid for her new clothes.
Wolf found herself getting excited when Song used her card to buy the clothes. She was developing her own sense of style, one that said who she was besides only being a survivor.
She liked it. She couldn't believe that she was admitting it, but maybe she liked shopping too.
