Work Text:

Mayday and Crosshair were returning from their mission on Barton-4 having been sent by Lieutenant Nolan to deal with the thieves and get the stolen cargo back. They were just getting back to the base of the Outpost.

The marauders having been dealt with efficiently, the cargo also now safe, the two having survived the harsh environment of the frozen tundra, a landmine, an avalanche, nearly having frozen to death in the process and then limping back, with their buckets tucked under their arms now that the sun was finally out trying to get some warming rays, all the while hauling said cargo on a hover-cart back to base.

Feeling good about themselves after everything having expired, the two certainly having bonded during the mission. Alas, the mood soon changing while seeing the imperial in charge, Nolan, waiting for them there like some stoic statue smack in the middle of the field. The Lieutenant looking nasty as ever and certainly ready to chew the hard working clones a new one by throwing his whiny nagging at them upon their, well, supposedly heroic return.

Well…

Crosshair and Mayday having gone through an ice cold hell simply exchanged glances with each other, the understanding between them clear, even without the words spoken.

“Lieutenant.”

The simple word stated by Crosshair, having gotten the imps attention for sure.

Nolan could not believe his eyes as he was suddenly staring right into the blaster barrels of the two clones he was supposedly there to command… Oh well, Nolan quickly found out he wasn’t about to command anyone anymore ever again.

The two close range shots hitting the imp without warning, with Nolan then falling onto the cold icy ground face first with a thud, dead on impact.

There several imperil troopers rushing out to accost the traitorous clones after witnessing what they had done. Alas, as soon as they reached the duo, Mayday’s squad alongside the clone troopers having arrived with Crosshair and Nolan were positioned right behind them.

“Anyone else?” Mayday simply asked.

Mayday never wavering in shooting the rest of the imps as was Crosshair neither. Seeing the other clones there, with their blasters drawn, their backup ready to take care of the imps if they tried to shoot Crosshair and Mayday.

“You… you traitors! You shot the Lieutenant!” The one in front uttered in total disbelief.

The others behind him trying to act all cool, alas they were all shivering out of fear, which was oozing out of them. The lot of them afraid of the clones, clearly.

“Well, what’s it gonna be?” Mayday asked the leader then, all the while staring straight into their imperial troopers drawn blasters, the fear having long since left the Clone Commander, perhaps never even been present there in the first place.

Crosshair was there unwavering as well, right by Mayday’s side, the sniper ready to die if the imps decided to shoot them. One thing being sure, that neither Crosshair nor Mayday were about to be going down without a fight.

“You, are traitors!” The TK trooper spat out of hate again, his rhetoric kind of repetitive.

“Heh, guess we are.” Crosshair simply stated with a hint of a smirk.

Mayday and Crosshair had their eyes honed on the imps, seeing the silent order given by the leader to the rest of them. To shoot the two clones.

Who shot first?

Well, suffice to say, that after the smoke cleared, the imperial troopers were on the ground, the smoking heaps of bodies a good testament of how skilled the clones really were.

“Hey, Commander, you and Crosshair okay in there?” Hexx shouted from the distance.

“Yeah, yeah we are.” Mayday glanced at Crosshair, the sniper nodding to the Commander his okay.

Just then, Mayday’s squad with the new arrivals reached the duo.

“So, that happened?” Veetch commented with a hint of jest in his tone.

“They all had it coming.” Crosshair stated factually. “I doubt any of us will lose any sleep over theses, imps.” Crosshair having made his choice already, having no regrets at all of what he had done.

“Well, they did try to kill you.” Slack, one of the clones having been in Crosshair’s team, the trooper too having gotten irked even before arriving to Barton-4 hearing Nolan’s opinion about the clones.

“And he was used equipment.” Sol the other of the two added, certainly having no qualms about offing the imps. “So no big loss there.”

“Guess we have a decision to make boys.” Mayday already having an idea of what to do, his eyes moving to look at the ship parked close by.

“Yeah Commander, we do indeed.” Codex, one of Mayday’s squad pretty much on the same page as were the rest of them.

They all looked towards the ship, their minds lingering on their perhaps only and best option standing right there in front of them clear as the sunny skies above them.

“Crosshair?” Mayday turned to Crosshair then, waiting for his response, wanting very much for the sniper to join them.

Crosshair stared at Mayday for a short spell, a smirk then emerging on his face, out of the blue perhaps. But Mayday was already pretty sure of Crosshair and his decision. The Commander certainly having read the sniper like an open holo-novel since first hello.

“Adopt me, please?”

It was an odd answer, true. With a hint of jest in there alas mostly it was how Crosshair felt at the very moment.

The two of them bursting into laughter then.

But Crosshair was totally serious. As guess he had found his new team, his new family with Mayday and his team even.

“Consider it done, Crosshair. Wouldn’t have it any other way.”

Crosshair simply nodded to Mayday, ready to leave this cold hellhole and the Empire far behind.

“Come on fellas, pack up your trash! We’re outta here!” Mayday then ordered.

The others getting their stuff before getting the hell out of Barton-4 and the Outpost, not to mention the Empire.
