Abigail always knew she was different. What she didn't know? Her parentage. What else? What true, undying love is. What third thing? How to fish.
She was the world's most foremost expert in fishing because of the astral blessing she received at birth. She could intuitively find & lure fish, without training.
Emily was my soulmate, my one and only. But without any magical gems to my name how could I ever woo her? My sheep farm was small and I had no magic. What could I do besides fish next to her?
It was just my luck that, during my quality time with my love, she... walked. Her path crossed through where I was standing... and, as I was fishing, I couldn't move...
Frozen by my passion for her, I stood by the lake. My fishing rod tempted no sea creatures and I went home empty handed. But my home wasn't empty.
"I have a drinking problem... bleh..." Shane mumbled into the floor.
"And you're just now realizing? Alcohol has ruined your life, you're a deadbeat dad, a high school dropout, you just now see the problem?"
He lay sprawled on the floor. Shane couldn't get up. He was silent.
"I want to help you!"
"No one can help me now." and he rolled off the edge.
