taking a page from your book, on one hand I hate myself for using that song for the title but like, it fits

Chapter 1: Highschool sucks.

Chapter Text

There were many, many things Larten Crepsley was. Scrawny, loser, and a coward. An absolute joke of a highschooler. Then there were the things he wasn’t. Cool, confident, and amazing at everything.

Everything she was.

Arra Sails was one of the most promising athletes at the school. Many saw her as rough around the edges, sure. But Larten could truly appreciate her beauty. Those strong, sexy shoulders, that long hair that fell effortlessly, and all the bruises and scrapes she had to offer on that body of hers that only made her more beautiful to him.

“Lartennn, earth to Larten, eyes on the prize.”

Vancha elbowed him in the stomach. Larten cringed and looked up at the casting list. He had been daydreaming about the football captain again. “I never realized you cared so much about this class, Vancha.”

Larten laughed a little and fixed his glasses.

“Me, care? I don’t, but I know you do.”

He moved Larten’s head to look at the list. He couldn’t read it very well, but got most of the names down.

“Daydreaming about the captain again?”

Despite having the density of a rock, Vancha could read him like a book. He was on the team as well, only doing this class to fill an elective credit senior year. Now he wouldn’t admit it but Larten could tell he enjoyed the class far more than he let on. Right on top of the list was his name, plastered next to the lead.

“What would you know? Guess Mr. Tall liked my audition after all.”

“Oh please! Like he wouldn’t pick you to play the lead role. You’re obviously one of his favorites, and you’re graduating!”

“Maybe I am just better than you!”

He elbowed Vancha to get back at him from earlier. The stronger student grabbed him and held him tightly, locking him in a chokehold. Larten and him playfully wrestled each other before they were pulled apart.

“You two act like animals you know,”

Mika was staring up at them. He had his books in one hand and his other hand locked with his best friend’s hand.

“Hi Mika. What do you want?” Larten asked, looking annoyed.

“I’m Vancha’s friend too, you know.”

Before he could say anymore, Mika had managed to drag Vancha to talk. Kurda stared up from his book and looked at Larten.

“Just a few schedule changes. Since a few members of the time are picking up extra stuff.”

“Who else is doing stuff?”

Larten was pushed away from the list. He looked down and was so close to losing it. Arra looked at him and rolled her eyes.

“I’m surprised they picked you to play the main male lead. Personally I’d pick somebody a little more handsome but I guess you’re a good actor then.”

He was about to facepalm himself as he read the list again. Somehow, someway, he missed Arra’s name right under his. Sporting the main female role, Juliet. Holy crap holy crap.

“I guess so. At least they have somebody pretty playing Juliet.”

That was so stupid. Arra didn’t care though, she even gave him a small smile as his face turned red.

“Well of course. They only want the best of the best don’t they?”

She walked away leaving Larten flustered and Kurda confused.

“That was weird. Didn’t even knew she did theater,” Kurda murmured.

“She does not. Not the class at least. But the play was an open audition so..”

“Still. Never realized she was the theater type. And to get a lead? She must be pretty good.”

Larten couldn’t answer that. After all, he wasn't at her audition. There were two and of course with his luck he missed hers. Mika and Vancha came back after a few minutes.

“Well. I look forward to working with you. Him, not so much.”

Vancha laughed and smacked her a little. She hit back, harder.

“Oh please. You just love playing with me don’t you?”

“Only because I have to! It’s not my fault coach Vanez put you on the team.”

They went back and forth. Mika whispered into his ear and grabbed Kurda’s hand, as he began walking off Larten could hear a little. Something about a study session. Not that Mika needed it, he was pretty smart already.

“Well, I’ll see you around then Larten.”

Arra waved goodbye. Larten’s stomach filled with butterflies as he thought about the play. How he’d get to kiss her on stage.

“She’s such a pain sometimes. Can’t believe we’ll have to act with her.”

Larten looked away, nodding.

“Yeah, I can not believe it..”
