Chapter Text
“I have to go to war.”
“But Chloe…”
“They’re requesting I go! And you know how Important this is to me.”
“Chloe!”
Chloe looks down at the ground, then looks at a photo of her father who was in the army. She breathes in, heading to the door, refusing to look at Red. She then mumbles something, even Chloe can barely hear herself. “I need to protect Auradon.”
“Chloe! Isn’t this enough!?” Red practically screams. She needed Chloe to listen. Only if it was for a second.
“Red, I’m done. If this has to be the way it is when I leave, then so be it! I’m leaving. Now. Goodbye Rose.” Before Red could even comprehend what Chloe had said, Chloe slammed the door, storming to the place where she had to meet before she left for good.
Red falls on the floor, sobbing her heart out, desperately crawling to the door, trying to reach the door handle, before completely falling to the ground in a pool of tears before exhaustion hit her with a mix of heartbreak and she fell asleep in a long and terrible night.
—--------------------------------------------------
That happened 6 months ago. Red had been struggling so much that Ella, Chloe’s mom, had to come to the house every day, and sometimes even stay a few nights just to make sure Red would take care of herself…And the life that was growing inside of her. Yeah, that's right. Red was pregnant. And she never got to tell Chloe.
Currently, Red sat at her desk, writing, then crumpling the paper in frustration. She was wanting to write to Chloe, to tell her how she was pregnant. But every letter, every word, didn’t seem right to Red. How do you tell your wife, who you argued with the night she left for war, that you’re somehow pregnant right when she leaves? Of course she was going to think Red cheated on her!
Red didn’t need this stress right now. It was bad for the baby. But she needed to know that Chloe would come home. That she would get to meet their child. So she grabbed the last piece of scroll paper, and wrote. But instead of writing to the Chloe in the future that she knew was gonna be angry, she wrote to the Chloe she knew. The Chloe that was kind, and sweet to everyone and loved Red more than anything in the world. The one she married.
To my beautiful wife,
Hello, maybe that was too formal, sorry, I don’t know how to write letters. I’ve been trying to write this stupid letter for hours. But I think this is the last letter I’ll try to write, because you need to know some things. First, I know we fought when you left, but I still love you so much, my princess. But you might be angry at me for what I'm about to tell you. But you deserve to know… I am pregnant with your child.
Ugh that sounded too forward. Why was this so weird to Red? Maybe it was because she’s never had a loving mother figure before in her life and no one ever talked to her about how people got pregnant or what being pregnant really means. She had to tell Ella about her symptoms and frustrations, and then had a big talk about the birds and the bees. That was not fun.
The thing that puzzled her was how she got pregnant. (No Ella, I don’t need another lecture on how things happen!) Red has never been with anyone in that kind of way except for Chloe. Chloe had to teach her. But Red thought that was the only way. Until she got the talk.. COUGH COUGH, Ella.
But pregnancy was just a weird concept. She felt flutters in her stomach from time to time and she thought it was an alien at first, but then she remembered she was pregnant. Was there any other way to say she was pregnant other than saying pregnant? We’re getting ahead of the subject at hand. Writing. Now where were we? Oh right, the fucking pregnancy that magically appeared out of nothing.
You will probably think I’m crazy, but I don’t know how I got pregnant. You know I would never cheat on you. I think there is some magic going on. The night that you left, I tried telling you, but you wouldn’t let me. You’re so obsessed with winning the war. You have too much pride. I love you.
I want you to love me how you used to love me. The way you always made time for me. The way you cuddled me when I had a nightmare. The way you made sure nothing stood in the way of you being with me. Even if you broke a rule. Ha, my little rule breaker. Remember? You got in trouble for me? Why can’t you be the same Chloe that I married?
We don’t need a legacy, we don’t need money. If I could grant you peace of mind…If you could let me inside your heart again. Please let me be part of the narrative. In the story that we will write someday with this one… Let this letter be the first chapter where you decide to come home.
If you could come home alive, that would be enough. And If I could share a fragment of your time…even if it was for a moment, that would be enough for me. Please come home soon. I will be waiting for you
-From your dearest, Red <3
Red sighed as she rolled the scroll up, wrapping it in a beautiful blue bow, then putting it in the royal delivery service.
As she got inside, she collapsed onto the couch, thinking about her beautiful blue princess. She couldn’t even imagine what she was doing right now…Red had an option. But it would have to cost her. A lot. A heavy sum of Auradonian money, which Red didn’t care about because Ella would do it. But the thing she did care about was the cost of Chloe’s trust.
If she did this, Chloe would be furious. She’d never trust Red again. But Red had to do this… For Chloe’s sake. For their babies sake.
Red walked over to the writing desk again and began to write the letter that would bring her blueberry home.
