The fireplace in Solomon’s room is always a source of comfort for you.
Sitting there, fell asleep sometimes, in front of the crackle of the warmth that wafted and blended in seamlessly, enveloping you like a soft blanket?
Gosh, it was cozy. You sighed with a content smile, and sank deeper into your seat in front of said fireplace.
You had just dodged a bullet; Solomon had tried to make you coffee but you just said you wanted hot water. You knew his intentions were pure but that didn't stop the shudder that rolled down your body whenever he said something like it. You would think you'd get used to it but no, Solomon's cooking still scared you senseless.
You had gotten back from the House of Lamentation, and after a long day at school and from the brothers' antics. You were so tired you haven't changed out of your school uniform properly, even after more than half an hour of arriving at home. Apart from the jacket that was ruggedly hanging on the stand, you hadn't changed anything at all.
You heard a long sigh. When you lazily opened your eyes, you find Solomon checking his watch. You let out a questioning hum, and Solomon chuckled.
"I saw some discounts for groceries advertised on Devilgram."
"Ahh," you nod, being the active listener that you are.
"Since it's close, I'm going to get some of your favourite fruits."
You nod numbly at his answer. "Sure," you say, taking a sip from the mug, but then you hear Solomon say, "And some ingredients for my specialty."
That sentence made you almost choke on your hot drink. Suddenly you are more alert than ever. Specialty? Specialty?! What specialty?!
"Sorry?" you manage to ask, though you were fumbling on the chair, making sure you didn't spill anything.
"The sale should be starting in a while," said Solomon as he slipped his phone into his coat. "It always sells out quick so I should hurry."
"No... that's really," You gulp, imagining the atrocities your stomach would have to battle if he... no, you can't let that happen. You can't deal with it. Not today. You shook your head frantically and added quickly, "-not necessary."
"But. Groceries," Solomon said with a confused look.
"Solomon. Look outside. It's freezing."
To prove your point, you walk up to his window, then push it open. A cold gust of air rush in immediately and you shudder.
“Come on, Solomon, can't you see? It's freezing out there,” you say again, pointing at the open window.
Solomon tips the window back, almost closing it but leaving some space open, then check his coat for his wallet, ready to rush back out again.
"What's with the hurry?" you huff.
Solomon tilts his head, a mildly perplexed look on his face.
"You said you were hungry ten minutes ago."
Oh, that was… that was sweet of him.
"I'm not anymore." You laugh, hoping he wouldn't notice how it was somewhat forced.
Please don't insist. Please don't.
The sorcerer gives you a gentle smile. You almost felt bad but then you were reminded that the specialty in question might just poison you.
"You don't need to be that considerate, I don't mind, really."
But I do! For my own sake! You scream internally. You could only imagine your current expression as one that of a constipated lizard.
“But- ”
"Aren't you just the sweetest, my adorable apprentice?" Solomon chuckles, cutting off your protests as he threw on his ivory-coloured coat.
“Not to worry, I'll be back right away.”
“Want a cup of hot chocolate before you go?”
He paused, then shook his head. “It's fine.”
“I insist.”
“Okay, I'll have a cup.”
You instantly pour him a cup from the steel jug of hot chocolate you had just made – still piping hot – and hand it to him. That should do the trick. He takes it and-
And he chugs down the scorching hot drink.
“What the fuck?! Have you- are you okay?” you almost scream.
“How do I do it?” Solomon voices your question with a cheeky grin.
Still gaping at him, you nod.
“It's magic.” A secretive smile.
You let out a long sigh, staring at him, not even knowing what to say or feel. “But it defeats the purpose of a hot drink.”
Solomon shrugs. “I’m warm now. I should go to the store.”
He nods to himself, patting your head and opening the door.
“Wait wait wait-”
Solomon pauses.
“Solomon, it's gonna be-”
“???”
“So sad if you- you died from pneumonia!”
A look of complete disbelief, then, confused, yet amused laughter.
“My adorable apprentice is so worried about me, hmm?” Solomon sighs and lets out a quiet chuckle.
“But are you ok?” He has a worried look when he said it to himself and leaned close to you, head tilted and feeling your forehead.
“Hmm. A little warm. Are you sick?”
It's hot for another reason, Solomon. You! You screamed internally.
“I'm ok!”
“Heh. Maybe that's why you think it's cold. You're probably sick.”
“I'll make chicken soup for you then.”
“No, no, no, it's fine!”
“Don't be shy. Really, I'll be fine!”
“But- the flash sale?”
“Right.”
He sighed and you did too.
Counterproductive. Trading a disaster for another, you thought.
Give up. Just give up, you told yourself.
At this point you have given up, fatigued from the mental gymnastics you had to go through to come with up excuses. You let out a heavy sigh and waved him off.
You stared at him. He was clad in a turtle neck - it seemed Solomon had opted for a long coat rather than his usual cape. You noticed he had also put on a beanie. Probably to appease you.
With all that black and white he was reminding you of a waddly penguin. One of those penguins with scarves in cartoons.
All he needed was a scarf. You should probably wrap one around his neck. Just to be safe. And maybe it will help you stall it long enough.
But you had no scarves. Not right now.
You groaned internally. But it should be worth trying.
“You shouldn’t go…?”
Solomon turns to face you, the questioning look on his face seemed to ask ‘What now?’
“Your- you don't have gloves! You hands will be cold! Ice cold!”
"I don't mind that. I have pockets," he said, practically beaming and digging his hands in his pocket. He no doubt liked the attention you were giving him. Even the fuss. In fact, he seemed to be thoroughly enjoying it.
"See?"
He gave you a reassuring smile as he dug through the pockets on his coat.
"Not to mention," Solomon started, his lilt mischievous as he leaned in to you with a gleam in his eyes.
"If they are that cold when I'm back, you can hold them until they're warm."
You merely blinked, speechless and downright zoned out for a moment.
"I- "
Solomon giggled at your expression, seeming to enjoy this a little too much. “I'm joking, I'm joking.”
Grey eyes holding a playful twinkle, Solomon gave you an easy smile, raising a brow. “Unless you want to- ”
You rolled eyes and pushed him slightly. “Go already.”
Solomon laughed. “Eager to get rid of me now, are we?”
“Hmph.”
He let out another amused chuckle and was about to leave the house, but then he comes back in, head peeking from behind the door at first.
“Anything you want me to grab?”
“Oh, yeah. Wait, where’s the list- sit down.”
“Yes, dear,” Solomon grinned and sat down as you scrolled down the notes to check the list on your phone.
“Ahh. We're running out of eggs.”
“Noted.”
He nods and stands up again, ready to leave and you lean up, about to kiss his cheek but he turns his head and…
And now your lips were touching.
Surprised and mortified, you immediately pulled away.
“You- ” You blink, eyes hazy and cheeks starting to burn and fumbling with your words.
"I am so sorry- I was- I- I was aiming for your cheek but you turned and I- "
You cut off your rumbling to check the silence, to finally look at Solomon's reaction - cheeks a soft pink and eyes in a haze, his dazed gaze set on you.
Did... he not mind? Does he...?
“That- ” Solomon starts, then shakes his head, as if to shake himself back into reality.
Now or never, you think to yourself.
You swallow thickly and ask, “If you don't mind, can I- do it again?”
And with that, Solomon snaps back to reality.
Shit, fuck, dang it, you fucked up, great, shit. Well fucking done, you’ve done it, you idiot, why would you say that-
"Oh, I don't mind at all." he said.
HEH?!
Before your poor brain could process the implications of what he said, Solomon swoops in and cups your face, kissing you softly. Only then, it settles in your brain.
Oh heck, thank goodness-
And you notice…
His hands were shaking.
"Are you ok?"
Solomon softly shook his head with a smile. His usually calm and cool grey eyes seemed to be cloudy, but at the same time, bright, a mix of emotions that didn't fade from him, not like it usually did. Not like he always tried to. It stayed, and he was taking you in with that gaze.
And goodness you didn't mind. You didn't mind at all. You'd like to drown in it, sink in it, and you would be ravished by it.
"You're right. It is cold outside," He said, just before he kissed you again. Kissing you like it was a need, like it would devour him from the inside out if he didn't. If he ever stopped.
The two of you awkwardly shuffle across the room, and hitting something… soft? Crumbly? Was it the beanbag? It was too late. You both were falling onto it before you can stop, a tangle of limbs almost falling onto the floor.
“Ooof-”
You look at each other, then burst out into laughter, sitting up and opting to move to the spare bed instead, muffled laughs still somewhat uncontrollable, until Solomon silences you with another kiss.
His touch and him, was warm and unhurried and effervescent and... and oh. He was still shaking.
You could feel it on your cheeks, barely, how the tips of his fingers and his palm were digging into your skin, pressed against it, as if steadying himself, to balance himself.
But his hands that were cupping your face, a thumb that was stroking your face, was still trembling. Just slightly but still, it made you worry.
You took his hand and held it, giving it a light squeeze. Was he cold? Was he sick? Was he seriously going to go grocery shopping while ill?
Really, this man.
"Solomon. Why's your hand- "
You frown and take his hands in yours, genuinely worried.
Solomon sighs, looking way too happy for someone whose hands were shaking like a leaf.
“Sorry, it's just...” Giving you an embarrassed look, Solomon scratches his head nervously, like an embarrassed teen.
“It's you.”
“Me?” You point at yourself.
"You make me feel all sorts of things, and..." he trails off, staring at you and lost in a trance, as if trying to find what to say but was too lost in your eyes instead.
“And I've waited for this moment for so long, you see.”
He lets out a soft hum, a fond smile on his lips that are faintly blushed pink from how he was kissing you just a while ago.
“And now that it's here...” He smiles, cupping your face and gently brushing his thumb on your cheek. “I don't want it to end.”
He connected your lips once more, but it was gone as soon as it came. Solomon paused and parted from you, lips pursed into a line and a serious expression on his face.
"Or maybe it's the side effects of a new potion I'm trying- "
"Solomon!"
He waved it off with a chuckle. “Not to worry. It's nothing severe.”
“Now shall we continue where we left off? I very much like what we are doing right now…”
Letting out a happy hum, he kisses you again once more.
You could hear the shuffle of fabric from him shrugging his coat, feel the feathery brush of his hair against your skin.
His lips, soft in some places and chapped in other parts, pressed up against yours. He must have lost the lip balm you gave him again. With an annoyed huff, you bit his lip. He let out something between a grunt and a hum, pulling away to give you a look.
You could see a huff of his warm breath from after the sharp intake and exhale of breath as he stared at you, lips red and cheeks flushed, only for you to kiss him again, attaching your lips to his.
And again. And again and again, and Solomon sighed, content, as he too, planted soft kisses on your lips.
And goodness, that sound. How could you ever describe how that single sound made you lose your mind?
With him, you were hopeless.
Solomon may be the most powerful human sorcerer but he didn't need any magic to enchant you.
Just a single glance at him, at his smile and that genuine twinkle in his eyes is enough to put you under a spell no one else ever could. You are thoroughly bewitched by him and you're aware of it and didn't mind it at all.
You may have the seven rulers of the devildom under pacts with you, angels from the celestial realm and a grim reaper that would do anything for you but Solomon had you... wrapped around his finger? In the palm of his hands? He has you crazy for him, he has you feeling everything and more.
Solomon would do anything for you. You knew. But you would do anything for him too. And you wished he would know that.
Well, you intend to show him just how much he mattered, in any way you can.
The windows in the room were still open from when you tried to show him the snow - that explains the sudden drop in temperature but that can wait. The curtains are closed after all. That's good enough for now.
For now, you are lost in the feeling of Solomon's kisses, his touch and embrace. Lost in the thrill of hearing the low hum of sounds he was making.
How an arm is cradled around you. How despite everything, how warm he made you feel, body and soul.
You kiss back, playing with the small hairs on the nape of his neck, feeling him shiver when you did, and as a response Solomon tugged on your tie to bring you closer to him. As close as he can, as close as you can be, to him.
He brushed his lips against your ear, then trailed back kisses from your jawline, to your cheek, then your lips.
Solomon smiled, playful eyes lighting up under the lights of your home, and your gaze and the intended grocery trip for his mystery dish long forgotten.
Voice breathless and smoothly laced with a hint of something irrefutably sultry, Solomon offered you something that was truly tempting as he said to you, "Since it's cold, like you insisted, why don't we keep each other warm, hmm?"
