As Tetsu and Nagi searches the library to investigate about a previous case similar to Naoya’s, Mitsuru catches them red-handed.
---
“How useless. We didn’t find anything useful here.” disses Nagi, in both frustration and disappointment.
Tetsu sighs in agreement with Nagi. He replies “Yeah, I guess private information wouldn’t be easily found in a library. I’m thinking of asking someone who might know about the incident two years ago.”
“But who?” Nagi responds.
“…Mitsuru?” Tetsu says.
Suddenly, a voice, not belonging to the two, said “Did you call me?” Then the door behind the person who newly entered was closed.
Nagi and Tetsu, startled, put their hands on their waist, prepared to pull out their weapons.
“There, there. I’m not gonna do anything to you guys. So, why did I hear my name?” Mitsuru, with his smug smile, asked as if he knew what the two were doing.
“We wanted to ask about the incident two years ago.” Tetsu responded, trying his best to act unfazed by Mitsuru’s presence.
Mitsuru agreed. Thus, the two went ahead and asked about the incident from two years ago, its similarity to Naoya’s case, and whatever information they can further get from him.
Along the investigation, they noticed that Mitsuru seems choked and keeps coughing, with his mouth covered, whenever they ask about Naoya.
Not knowing about Mitsuru’s disease, they found this behavior suspicious and concluded that Mitsuru was indeed guilty of killing Naoya.
Confronting Mitsuru about their conclusion, Mitsuru smiled and said “So now you know. Go ahead and report me.”
---
Mitsuru returned to his room... No, his and Naoya’s room, for the last time, with him doomed to execution.
“Naoya, did I protect your precious brothers?” Mitsuru talks to the empty space on Naoya’s bed, seemingly looking at Naoya if he was still alive.
Mitsuru coughs petals, getting worse compared when doing the investigation.
“Haha, it’s really a good thing those two kids didn’t notice that I was coughing up petals and thought that it was because I was hiding something.” Mitsuru jokes as he coughs again. “I hope with this, they’ll believe the case is closed and stop investigating.”
Mitsuru coughs even worse, slightly out of breath.
“It seems like I’ll be meeting you soon, Naoya. I wonder, will I still cough up petals the next time we meet? Or will you finally reciprocate my feelings?” Mitsuru chuckled, slightly tearing up whilst remembering Naoya, their fun moments together, and how there was that woman who stole Naoya’s heart in a heartbeat, deeming Mitsuru’s feelings unreciprocated.
The next day, on the day of Mitsuru’s execution, he was found laying down on a bed of petals, with a smile, as if he died with no regrets.
