Twinkling Stars

Summary:

Ginny and Harry share a moment under the stars

Work Text:

It's warm in the burrow, stifling almost. But since the war ended, every Christmas it seems like more and more faces show up. Ginny's eyes scan them, they're all like a tapestry, reds woven with those who have joined them over the years. She knows there's one missing, he always hated crowds. So she escapes to the porch, the cold December air blasting her as soon she escapes the familiar heat of the Burrow. She shuts her eyes and breathes deeply, the frigid air stinging her lungs, but clearing her mind. Out here the noise is just a dull roar.

"Hey" he says, and there he is, dark untamable hair blowing in the wind as he leans against the rail.

"Figured I'd find you out here"

His crooked smile is his only reply, he turns his eyes back to the sky. His arms resting on the rail as he watches the stars twinkle, Ginny thinks he's never looked so calm and at peace as he does now.
She stands next to him, they don't need words. She always loved how they could do this, just be together, they didn't need endless conversation.

It's been a while since they've been together

"Was I enough for you?" The words leave her mouth before her brain can really stop herself.

He turns and looks at her, his crooked smile back, his fingers slowly ghosting over her own.

"You were everything to me"

Ginny hears her name from inside the house, someone will be out soon to find her

"You'll tell them I said hi, won't you?"

"Of course"

It's George who opens the door onto the porch, Ginny already heading for the door

"You all good sis?"

She looks back at their spot, he's already gone, she glances at the sky one last time.

"Yeah, I'll be alright"
