Work Text:
"Anyway, and then you had no idea how much rust that thing had! I was sweeping the garage out for days!”
Allegra and Mista walked down the scenic track in the Italian Alps. The cool wind danced across fresh grass, a running brook filling the air with its chatter as the two walked on from their little road trip break. They entered the carpark surround in the distance by gigantic mountains, stretching up to the sky. It was a perfect picture of serenity.
“Anyway, and then I- oh my god,” Allegra said, stopping dead in her tracks, frozen with her eyes wide.
“What?” Mista said, tensing as his hand already on his gun at the sudden stop. The carpark had a few cars, theirs, and then he spotted what she was looking at, and-
“Oh right.” He said almost with a sigh of relief.
“it’s just a sports car,” He said, but the accidental dismissive tone got him a sharp look from Allegra as she broke away from the unfinished story and tore towards it.
“Mista, just a sportscar? just a sportscar!?” She shouted as the distance widened between them, slowing her stride before approaching the car to avoid spraying the vehicle with gravel from her sprint.
“Mista- it’s not just a sportscar! It’s a Ferrari SF90XX! Look at it! Look at its colours, its beautiful curves, it’s interior!” Allegra gasped as she ogled at the sleek body of the car, her eyes travelling over the smooth curves and plush interior of the car.
“Oh my god, I would have never thought I’d see something like this here! Maybe Positano, or Milan, but here?! Mamma Mia, what a work of art!” She squeaked as she peeked inside.
“Well, consider me flattered, bambina. I think I’m the lucky one to be complimented so much.”
Allegra jumped back as if she were poked with a live wire, gasping suddenly, looking around for the voice in a panic, despite it having come from the inside of the car.
“Wh-where did that come from?” Allegra said weakly, as she backed away, Mista suddenly spotting the odd thing out, pointing to the logo on the steering wheel.
“That’s an Autobot – it’s insignia.”
At that moment, the car twitched its wheels, gravel crunching as they swivelled sharply to the right.
“Keep your eyes peeled bambina, you’re going to want to see this,”
The car seemed to explode and implode with red blazing flashing metal, completely reformatting itself into a humanoid form. Tires folded in, chassis moved inwards and upwards, and a humanoid form started to take place.
There stood a sleek body, a deep red reflecting the sun off its chassis; body slim and build for speed.
Allegra had seen these creatures on the news, and how they had brought their millennia year war to Earth. She had always wanted to glimpse at one at close, and now she was granted her wish, watching the performance with bated breath.
The metal folded away to show a face… that was damned nice to look at with bright orange eyes that seemed to sparkle.
And suddenly, Allegra was flushing red all over realising that she had been unabashedly checking the car out right in front of him.
“I hope I didn’t scare you too much.” Came the dulcet tones of the car. Oh. And he had a perfect voice too…
“What’s your name, bambina?” The Cybertronian asked, speaking in perfect Italian in a smooth voice that completely blindsided Allegra, whose face was now turning a bright red.
“It’s Allegra,” She managed to squeak, her flushed expression contrasting sharply to the scowl that Mista had on his face.
“And you?” Asked the behemoth, turning to Mista as he asked him.
“Her boyfriend,” said Mista tersely with gritted teeth, taking a protective step closer towards Allegra.
“Nice to meet you Allegra and ‘her boyfriend’.
“I’m Dragrace, Autobot on patrol from any Decepticons in the area. Yours truly is keeping this place safe,” He said, and squatted a little lower, winking at Allegra.
“Don’t feel too embarrassed, Allegra – I’m quite flattered that someone takes a great interest in my body. And it sounds like you know your way around a car” Dragrace flirted.
Mista thought he was going to have a conniption.
Never in his life would have thought he would be competing with a car out of all things for his girlfriend. And the bastard knew what he was doing too!
Allegra meanwhile looked like she was going to combust if she was teased anymore and seemed to somehow manage to get a hold of herself at the mention of having an interest in cars.
“I-I’m a mechanic!” She said, finding some confidence and stability at the mention of her passion, and kept talking.
“I- I just thought that I’d never see such a beautiful car on the road! It’s really rare to see Ferraris so far in the mountain ranges. It’s such a treat when you see one” she said, her voice earnest, earning a genuine smile on Dragrace’s face. His glowing orange eyes crinkled in delight
Mista didn’t like that.
“I’ve never seen such a beautiful, sleek and sporty body on the road! Especially the newer model – the exterior has all these curves-”
“Oh my…”
And Mista especially didn’t like that line about Dragrace’s body-
“You must have impeccable taste – Oh, I’ve always wanted to ride y-uh one!’ She fumbled, seemingly confused what words to use at the car turned humanoid standing in front of her, taking it all in stride.
Mista had heard enough.
“I can always give you a ride if you want” He responded, and Mista grabbed Allegra’s hand.
There was a beat before Dragrace continued.
“You can bring your little boyfriend along too if you want-“
“No, we have to be going now,” Mista announced a little too loudly, much to the surprise and shock of Allegra as he grabbed her hand, having completely forgotten he was standing by her side.
“B-But Mista!” Allegra whined, grabbing onto him for dear life around his neck as she did when she wanted something so badly. And when that was the case, she’d pull and throttle and grip onto him in a way that made his blood rise to his face-
“Allegra, how do you know we can even trust him!” Mista said, imploring her as her jostling was getting more intense.
Dragrace transformed back to a car, earning a squeal from Allegra at the flashy action.
“Oh my god, Mista, did you see that?!?” Allegra exclaimed in a way that was reminiscent to Mista of Napoli women dreamily professing their love about Maradona.
Mista grumbled something under his breath as a response.
The passenger car door automatically opened, showing its plush leather interior. Dragrace was a siren song, and Mista’s arms clamping down suddenly around Allegra’s waist was the metaphorical rope and mast of the boat.
“We should probably leave – we’ve still got a few hours of driving to go,” trying to stay on topic, his adams apple bobbed as Allegra squirmed in his grasp.
“Awww, but- but- Mista! Look! When am I going to ever see a Ferrari, let alone a talking one ever again! She protested, her arm reaching out from his grasp trying to touch it from afar.
“Hopefully never” Mista replied, ever so quietly under his breath.
Mista knew he was fighting a losing battle – Allegra was old enough to make her own decisions, and he wasn’t in charge of her wellbeing. If she wanted to do something of her own volition, then he couldn’t do anything to stop her.
Might as well pull out the big guns.
“Mista, are you going to have to find a new girlfriend?
“Mista, why can’t you turn into a car”
“We’re so screwed you guys!”
“Don’t tell me you’re just going out for ‘a ride’! We’ve all heard that one before!”
“Come on Mista! Go with Allegra”
““Wahhhhh Noooo don’t leave us Allegraaaaaa”
A chorus of yelling and cajoling came from Mista’s hat as Allegra slowed her roll to touch the leather interior of the car, turning her head at the commotion.
The Sex Pistols zoomed around like bumblebees, zipping by enticingly. They would get a little closer to Allegra, before zooming back to the safety of Mista almost as if they were trying to coax her back to him.
Allegra paused, looking at the neutral expression of Mista, and his white knuckled grip on his crossed arms.
“Well … if Mista isn’t going to come with me, I don’t want to leave him here by himself,” Allegra decided.
“I’m sorry Dragrace, maybe some other time?”
“Aww bambina!” Came the whine from the car, not helping that Mista had now sported the most self-satisfied smirk on his face at Allegra’s rejection.
“You’re killing me over here!”
“I know – I’m sorry. It was still really nice to meet you!” And she patted the roof of the Ferrari gently, careful not to get any hand marks on its beautiful red surface.
She took a few steps back, only to gasp when she saw a man materialize in the driver’s seat. He was handsome; dark hair and unbuttoned shirt that showed off his chest and collarbone as he stared at her.
He pulled down his glasses and winked at her and paused, touching his ear as if he was receiving a transmission.
“Hmm, well. It looks like I’ll have to take a raincheck on that ride,” the disappointment palpable enough to solidify Mista’s smirk into a grin.
“Nice meeting you, Allegra, ‘her boyfriend’.
”Ciao Bella,” Dragrace said, before the car door slammed shut, and the car peeled out of the driveway.
With an exhilarating roar, Dragrace took off.
Allegra was standing next to Mista, who’s arms immediately snaked around her waist and brought her closer to him as she watched the Ferrari speed off.
Sex Pistols were hiding in her hair, crawling around them. Numbers 1, 2 and 6 were plaiting strands of her hair in dizzying speeds and manoeuvrability.
“Does that mean you’re staying with us Allegra?” Asked No. 7.
Her heart thundered in her chest, not entirely sure about if it was the sound and vibration sending her heart into a frenzy, or the interaction itself, or Mista’s solid weight against her body, before she seemed to come down to earth, and moved to hug Mista back.
“Of course I’m staying! I’m not gonna abandon you guys!” She said as she wrapped her arms around his shoulders, eliciting a chorus of cheers from Sex Pistols.
Mista’s bone crushing hug seemed to echo their sentiment.
She wasn’t complaining; Mista wanted to hold her hand for the rest of the day almost to ensure she didn’t escape somehow at the next pitstop trying to find the Ferrari friend she made.
Still… she had a feeling it wasn’t the last time she’d see Dragrace.
Much to the dismay of Mista.
