Work Text:
Gonathon, having no relationship experience prior to this, never even imagined he'd be in a position where he'd be in a situation where he'd be rebuilding a relationship. But given the circumstances, it was worth it. And to his surprise, it was actually going smoothly.
While he thanked every God he could imagine that his beloved Pearl was willing to give this relationship a second chance he'd be lying that it didn't string along a handful of anxieties. After all, regaining memories could potentially change a person completely. And yet, the more time he'd spent with her, Gonaton's heart eased as he realized that his Pearl was the same person he'd fallen in love with. Without a doubt, he loved Jyonaton. He loved Amelia. He loved his Pearl.
But would she still love him, too?
He watched her from a short distance, enamored in her smile as she idly chattered with their companions. It wasn’t so much different from when they first arrived, when he first started falling for her. And then his chest tightens as the worry claws at his chest., enough that his hand tightly grasped the fabric of shit cloak.
How much different will he be when his memories return? What if he was nothing like now, and he loses everything, including the most important person to him?
The group was already scattered when he realized those beautiful eyes were staring back at him, and his breath hitched. His heart pounded with love and worry. Her gaze, so loving and showing a hint of concern making him wonder if she’ll always look at him like that.
She said something Johnaton couldn’t hear. A rare occurrence, when her soothing voice stands out even in the loudest of crowds.
Before he knew he already closed the distance between them, and Amelia stumbled back a little in surprised.
“My Diamond?” She asked, tone puzzled but hiding any alarm. He held onto her for his dear life until she wrapped her arms around him as well, and only then did he release a breath he didn’t know he was holding. “Is everything alright?”
She pressed her lips gently against his temple, sending warmth through his entire body. With a shaky nod he buried his face into her shoulder, and squeezed. She didn’t show any sign of minding. Not enough, never enough. The desperation which he craved her warmth with was almost embarrassing.
He wanted to get lost in her, feel every inch of her and engrave it into his memory so he wouldn’t potentially forget. The mere thought scared him, his fingers digging into his Pearl’s back.
“It’s okay,” The soft whisper soothed him, almost making him forget about all his worries. The tension began to finally leave his body when he felt her hand brush through his messy hair, just the way he liked.
Another moment of silence, and he finally felt a bit of relief. “Yeah,” The noble knight breathed out, smiling in hopes it would somehow bury all the selfish feelings. “I’m alright, thank you.”
For now he figured he’d let himself be selfish. To just enjoy all the unconditional love being given to him that everyone thought he deserved.
Whether he truly does or not, is something he’ll find out eventually.
