Work Text:

Hinata sat in the quiet corner of the campus library, her fingers gently gliding across her laptop’s keyboard as she worked on her assignment. She had always preferred the quiet, especially when surrounded by the overwhelming energy of university life. The library was her escape—a place where she could disappear into her thoughts without the weight of social expectations.

Outside, the fall semester had just begun. New faces filled the hallways, her friends went to different college, she didn't really know any one here, well... Maybe she knew certain person, but they never talked before.

Sasuke Uchiha. Though they had been at the same college for over a year now, they had never spoken. They moved in different circles—Sasuke with his aloof, untouchable demeanor, and Hinata with her quiet, unassuming nature. The only thing they seemed to share was the same philosophy course, though even there, he sat in the back, perpetually disinterested, while she took notes diligently at the front.

She knew him by reputation, of course. Everyone did. Sasuke was the enigma that people whispered about, his intelligence and talent only overshadowed by his cold, distant attitude. He was the type of person who never sought attention, but somehow always had it anyway. They had crossed paths a few times on campus, though never directly. He was just someone she observed from afar, like many others. He was someone untouchable.

But on the internet, Hinata could be anyone.

Hinata's attention wavered from her assignment as she absentmindedly opened X, the social media platform she used to unwind. Her profile was simple and anonymous—she never liked using her real name or photo online. Under the username ByakuganThoughts, she mainly followed discussions on literature, philosophy, and the occasional post about her interests in martial arts. It was her way of quietly engaging with the world, from a safe distance.

Scrolling through her feed, a post caught her eye. It was a long thread about an obscure philosophical debate: the ethics of intervention and responsibility. A well-known user, UchihaShadow, had just posted a sharp comment refuting someone’s claim about moral obligation.

“Not everyone is responsible for others’ burdens. Sometimes, people need to solve their problems alone. Not everyone wants to be saved.”

Hinata paused, the words sticking with her. There was something… familiar about the bluntness of the comment. It wasn’t the first time she had seen UchihaShadow posting on philosophy topics, but she had never felt compelled to respond. Until now.

She clicked the reply button, her fingers hovering over the keys for a moment before she began to type.

“True, but isn’t there a line between letting someone solve their own problems and abandoning them entirely? What if they’re sinking and don’t even realize it?”

She hit send before she could second-guess herself. It wasn’t a confrontational reply, just an observation. But the topic hit a little too close to home for her. She often wondered about her own quiet nature, and if sometimes her silence meant she wasn’t helping the people around her when they needed it the most.

Not expecting much, she returned to her assignment. But a notification popped up a few minutes later—UchihaShadow had responded.

“Some people aren’t worth saving. They drag you down with them. How do you know when it’s too late to help someone?”

Hinata frowned slightly, considering the weight of the question. She wasn’t sure if this person was just challenging her, or if there was something deeper to their words. Either way, she felt compelled to reply.

“I think it depends on the person. Some people might never ask for help, but that doesn’t mean they don’t want it. You just have to be there, even if they don’t know how to ask.”

There was a longer pause this time before the next message appeared.

“So you just will sit there, wait for someone to admit they need help? That’s a waste of time.”

Hinata felt her heart sink a little. The cynicism in the response showed a aloof, detached person, as if nothing ever really mattered to him. She wondered if this person behind the screen is really like that in real life. But even then, there was a part of her that couldn’t let the conversation end on that note.

“Maybe. But sometimes waiting is the only thing you can do. People change, and sometimes they need to hit rock bottom before they realize it.”

She closed her laptop, deciding to let the conversation rest. It was strange how personal it felt, even though she didn’t know this person at all.

---

Meanwhile, in his dorm room on the other side of campus, Sasuke Uchiha stared at the screen of his phone, his brows furrowed in thought. He hadn’t expected a real conversation when he commented on the thread. Usually, people were too shallow to have anything interesting to say. But this ByakuganThoughts… they were different. Their replies were thoughtful, reflective. He hated to admit it, but they made him think.

Sasuke wasn’t one for social media. In fact, he rarely engaged with anyone unless absolutely necessary. He had made his X account to follow intellectual discussions, not to make friends. But ByakuganThoughts wasn’t like the others who spouted hollow philosophical jargon. Their words had weight. It annoyed him. And intrigued him.

He typed out a reply, then deleted it. It wasn’t like him to get involved in online debates, let alone with someone he didn’t know. But something about this conversation had drawn him in.

Instead, he leaned back in his chair, running a hand through his dark hair. His mind wandered back to the girl he sometimes saw in his philosophy class—the quiet one who always sat near the front. He didn’t even know her name, but he noticed her. She was always scribbling notes, head down, barely speaking to anyone. She was like a ghost in the background, there but never truly seen.

He shook the thought away, annoyed with himself for even thinking about it.

---

Over the next few days, Hinata and Sasuke, under the anonymity of their usernames, continued their conversation on X. It started with a link he sent in her DMs, a psychological study that backed up his point of view. Their conversation was short small, just about philosophy at first, but it soon grew into longer discussions about human nature, about identity, about trust. They followed each other, but never shared personal details, there was an unspoken connection between them, as if they understood each other on a level that went beyond words.

Sasuke, for all his cynicism, found himself looking forward to the replies from ByakuganThoughts. They were insightful, offering perspectives he hadn’t considered. In return, he gave more of himself than he ever thought he would. It was easier when there was no face attached to the words, no expectations or judgments. He could say what he really thought, without anyone prying too deeply.

Hinata, on the other hand, felt a strange sense of comfort in these exchanges. There was a loneliness she hadn’t realized she was carrying until she started talking to UchihaShadow. The more they talked, the more she saw that this person, whoever they were, carried a similar weight. It was in the way they responded, the bluntness, the guarded tone. They weren’t used to trusting others.

Neither of them had any idea who the other was. But that anonymity was slowly becoming their lifeline.

---

One afternoon, Hinata sat in her usual spot in the library, lost in her thoughts. She had just finished responding to UchihaShadow when the door to the library opened and someone walked in, drawing her attention.

It was Sasuke.

He walked with his usual quiet confidence, his face set in that unreadable expression as he headed to a table in the back. Hinata’s eyes followed him as he moved . They never interacted. They were practically strangers.

She brushed the thought of him out her mind, and started thinking about the other, the aloof UchihaShadow, after weeks of anonymous conversations, she couldn’t help but wonder… what would it be like to talk to him, face to face?

She quickly shook the thought away. It was silly. She didn’t know him. Not really.

But the irony was lost on her—how she had unknowingly already shared so much with him, and yet they were still worlds apart.

Sasuke, now seated in the far corner of the library, pulled out his phone. A notification from X appeared at the top of his screen—a new reply from ByakuganThoughts. He stared at it for a moment, then glanced around the room, as if searching for something, though he wasn’t sure what.

His eyes briefly landed on Hinata’s figure, sitting near the window, bathed in the afternoon light.

_________

Over the next few days, the conversations between UchihaShadow and ByakuganThoughts continued to unfold with increasing depth and intensity. Neither of them acknowledged it, but their discussions had shifted from intellectual debates to something more personal. They talked about loneliness, isolation, and the difficulty of connecting with people in a world that felt too large and indifferent.

Hinata was beginning to feel a strange connection with this faceless person online. There was a raw honesty to their words that she hadn’t experienced with anyone else. She had always been shy, even withdrawn, around her peers, afraid to express what she truly thought for fear of judgment. But with UchihaShadow, she found herself speaking freely in ways she never could in real life.

Sasuke, too, was slowly drawn into the exchanges in a way that disturbed him. He wasn’t the type to get attached to people, least of all strangers on the internet. And yet, there was something about ByakuganThoughts that intrigued him, that made him want to keep responding. He couldn’t explain it—there was something familiar in their perspective, a quiet wisdom that resonated with his own guarded world view.

---

One rainy afternoon, Hinata sat once again in the library. The soft patter of rain against the windows matched the quiet atmosphere inside. She had just finished a class and decided to check X before heading back to her dorm. As she opened the app, a new message from UchihaShadow appeared in her notifications.

UchihaShadow:
“Why do you think people push others away even when they need help?”

Hinata paused at the question. It was a stark contrast from the usual tone of their discussions, which had always been focused on philosophy or hypothetical situations. This question felt personal. She hesitated for a moment before typing her response.

ByakuganThoughts:
“Maybe because they’re afraid. Afraid of being vulnerable, or of being a burden. It’s easier to hide behind walls than to admit you need someone.”

She sent the reply and leaned back in her chair, her thoughts wandering. It was a sentiment she knew all too well—how many times had she chosen silence instead of reaching out for help, even when she was struggling? She always told herself it was better this way, that she didn’t want to burden others with her problems. But deep down, she wondered if she had just been too afraid of rejection.

Across campus, Sasuke sat in his dorm, staring at his phone. He hadn’t expected ByakuganThoughts to respond so quickly, or with such an honest answer. It struck a chord with him. He had been thinking about his own tendency to push people away—his refusal to let anyone in. It wasn’t that he didn’t care; it was just easier to keep his distance, to avoid the complications that came with relationships. People always left, anyway. Why bother letting them in at all?

After a moment, he typed his response.

UchihaShadow:
“Or maybe they’re afraid people won’t understand them. That no matter how much they try to explain, they’ll always be alone.”

Hinata stared at the screen, her heart aching at the words. There was a sadness in them, a loneliness that felt almost palpable. She couldn’t help but wonder what kind of person UchihaShadow was in real life. They seemed so distant, so guarded, yet there was a vulnerability in their words that made her feel like she wasn’t the only one who struggled with these feelings.

Her fingers hovered over the keyboard, her response coming almost instinctively.

ByakuganThoughts:
“Maybe… but that doesn’t mean you should stop trying. Even if people don’t always understand, it’s better than being alone all the time.”

She hesitated for a moment before sending the message. It was rare for her to be so candid, even online, but something about this conversation made her feel like she could be honest, like she didn’t need to hide behind pleasantries or politeness.

---

Days passed, and the connection between them deepened, though neither of them would admit it. Sasuke found himself checking his phone more frequently, looking for messages from ByakuganThoughts. Their conversations were a strange comfort to him—something to look forward to in the quiet isolation of his life. He still didn’t know who this person was, and he wasn’t sure if he wanted to. But the anonymity allowed him to express things he would never say in real life, and that was enough for now.

Hinata, too, found herself drawn to their conversations in a way that surprised her. She had never felt this kind of connection with anyone before, not even her closest friends. It was ironic, she thought, that the person she felt closest to was someone she had never met. She wondered if UchihaShadow felt the same way, though she doubted they would ever admit it.

One evening, as Hinata sat in her dorm room, she received a message from UchihaShadow that took her by surprise.

UchihaShadow:
“Do you ever wonder if we’ve met in real life?”

Hinata’s breath caught in her throat. She hadn’t expected that question. Of course, she had thought about it. In their profiles, they both mentioned the college they go to in their bios. It was the same one —what if UchihaShadow was someone she passed by every day on campus? What if they had already crossed paths without realizing it? The thought made her heart race, but she didn’t know how to respond. Did she want to know who they were? Or was it better to keep the mystery intact?

After a moment, she typed her reply.

ByakuganThoughts:
“Maybe. But does it matter?”

There was a long pause before Sasuke’s next message came through.

UchihaShadow:
“Maybe not. But it’s interesting to think about. What if we already know each other, but we’re too different to ever connect in real life?”

Hinata stared at the screen, her mind spinning. The idea unsettled her. There was a class where they discussed a philosophical approach to a certain subject. The conversation grew heated between Sasuke and another student, moderated by Professor Hatake. She remembered that as soon as she went back to her room, UchihaShadow sent her a message, asking her about the same subject and defending the same side Sasuke had defended in class.

She wondered if Sasuke was the one behind these conversations. She’d never connected his cold, distant personality to the warmth and depth she found in UchihaShadow. But the more she thought about it, the more it made sense.

Sasuke was always alone, always distant from the people around him. And she had felt the same loneliness in his words, the same sense of isolation that she saw in him during class. Could it be him? The thought lingered in her mind, but she couldn’t bring herself to ask.

---

The following week, as Hinata sat in her usual spot in the philosophy lecture, she couldn’t help but glance toward the back of the room where Sasuke sat. He was, as always, silent and brooding, his eyes fixed on the professor without any hint of interest.

Sasuke, on the other hand, found his gaze drifting toward Hinata more often than he would like to admit. There was something about her quiet presence that reminded him of the person he spoke to online—the way she seemed content to stay in the background, unnoticed, yet always observing. But he didn’t dare approach her. He wasn’t even sure if it was her.

Their online conversations had grown more personal, touching on topics of vulnerability, trust, and loneliness. He found himself opening up more than he ever had before. It was easier to be honest behind a screen, where no one could judge him. But now, as he sat in the lecture hall, he couldn’t help but wonder what it would be like to talk to ByakuganThoughts in person. Would they still have the same connection?

---

That evening, after a long day of classes, Hinata received a message from UchihaShadow that made her heart skip a beat.

UchihaShadow:
“What if we met?”

The question hung in the air, heavy with possibility. Hinata stared at it, her mind racing. Could she really meet this person? What if they were nothing like she imagined? What if they didn’t like each other in real life? But another part of her was curious—what if they had already met without realizing it?

Her fingers trembled slightly as she typed her reply.

ByakuganThoughts:
“Where would we even meet? We don’t know each other.”

Sasuke’s response came quickly, almost as if he had anticipated her hesitation.

UchihaShadow:
“We could. We just have to choose a place. Anonymously. No real names.”

Hinata hesitated, biting her lip. The idea was terrifying, but also exhilarating. She had never done anything like this before. And yet, there was a part of her that wanted to take the risk. After all, wasn’t that what they had been talking about? Trust, vulnerability, connection?

Finally, she sent her response.

ByakuganThoughts:
“Okey, I'm in ”

UchihaShadow :
“Alright. Tomorrow, 5 PM. The campus café.”

---

The next day, Hinata couldn’t focus on anything. Her mind was a whirlwind of anxiety and anticipation. As the clock ticked closer to 5 PM, she found herself walking toward the campus café, her heart pounding in her chest. She had no idea who to expect—no clue who UchihaShadow could be. And yet, there was a part of her that couldn’t shake the feeling that she already knew.

When she arrived at the café, she glanced around nervously, scanning the small crowd of students gathered at tables. She had agreed to meet UchihaShadow without revealing their true identities, but the anonymity felt like a fragile barrier now that she was so close. The campus café was crowded, filled with students huddled over their laptops or chatting in groups, and yet Hinata felt like she was standing alone in the middle of a storm.

She found a seat by the window, her hands fidgeting as she sipped a tea she didn’t really want. She hadn’t told anyone about this—how could she? It felt too personal, too risky. But her mind kept wandering back to one possibility that both excited and terrified her: what if UchihaShadow was Sasuke?

Hinata tried to dismiss the thought. It couldn’t be him. Sasuke was too distant, too unapproachable. They barely exchanged glances in class, let alone spoke to one another. And yet, the vulnerability UchihaShadow had shown in their messages mirrored the silent struggles she often saw in Sasuke’s eyes. Could someone like him really be hiding behind that screen name? The idea seemed impossible, but Hinata couldn’t shake the feeling.

As the minutes passed, her anxiety built. She checked her phone repeatedly, waiting for some kind of confirmation—something that would let her know UchihaShadow was here.

---

Meanwhile, Sasuke stood just outside the café, his hands stuffed in his jacket pockets as he debated whether or not to go in. He had suggested the meeting impulsively, half-expecting ByakuganThoughts to refuse. He didn’t do things like this—meet strangers, talk about personal feelings. It wasn’t his style. But something about their conversations had pulled him in deeper than he ever intended, and now he was here, standing on the threshold of something unknown.

He scanned the café’s interior through the glass windows. People were chatting, studying, working… It all seemed so normal, so detached from the tension he felt coiling in his chest. His gaze fell on a familiar figure sitting by the window. Hinata Hyuga. She sat alone, quietly sipping her tea, her eyes shifting around nervously as if she were waiting for someone.

Sasuke’s stomach tightened. Could it be her? The thought made him pause. He had never spoken to her before, never even considered the possibility. She was always so quiet, so reserved, blending into the background. But now, as he stood there, watching her, the pieces started to fit together in a way that made his chest tighten with disbelief.

Was ByakuganThoughts really Hinata?

The realization left him standing frozen just outside the café, his mind racing. If it was her, then everything he had shared with ByakuganThoughts—his vulnerabilities, his thoughts, his emotions—had been exposed to someone who saw him every day. That terrified him. And yet… a part of him was intrigued.

Without fully realizing it, he took a step toward the door. Then another. His hand reached for the handle, pushing it open as he stepped inside.

---

Hinata looked up as the door opened, her breath catching when she saw Sasuke walk in. He looked the same as always—distant, composed, unreadable. She watched as he scanned the café, his eyes eventually landing on her. For a brief moment, their gazes locked, and she felt a surge of panic.

Was he meeting someone here? Was he here for her? The thought seemed absurd, and yet…

She swallowed hard, her heart pounding in her ears as Sasuke slowly walked toward her. He didn’t break eye contact as he approached, his expression as unreadable as ever. When he finally reached her table, he paused, glancing down at her tea before speaking.

“Are you waiting for someone?”

His voice was calm, but there was an undercurrent of something else—something uncertain. Hinata’s hands tightened around her cup, her throat suddenly dry. She didn’t know what to say. Was Sasuke UchihaShadow? Was this all just a strange coincidence?

She forced herself to respond, though her voice was soft. “I… might be.”

Sasuke’s eyes narrowed slightly, as if he were trying to read her mind. There was a long silence between them, filled with unspoken questions. Then, almost imperceptibly, he slid his phone out of his pocket and opened X. Hinata watched as he typed something quickly before looking up at her again.

A moment later, her phone vibrated on the table. She glanced down, and her heart skipped a beat when she saw the notification.

UchihaShadow:
“I think I’ve found you.”

Her breath caught in her throat, and she looked up at Sasuke, who was now watching her with a strange intensity in his eyes. The realization hit her all at once—Sasuke was UchihaShadow. The person she had been talking to, confiding in, for weeks was standing right in front of her.

Sasuke watched the shock wash over her face, his own expression carefully guarded. He didn’t know what he expected, but seeing her reaction made his own heart race. He hadn’t intended for things to turn out like this. But now that he was here, now that he knew, there was no turning back.

Hinata blinked, struggling to find her voice. “You’re…”

Sasuke gave a small nod, his eyes still fixed on her. “Yeah. I didn’t expect it to be you either.”

For a moment, neither of them knew what to say. The weight of their shared conversations, the vulnerability they had shown to each other under the cover of anonymity, hung between them like an invisible thread. Hinata’s mind raced, replaying their messages over and over. How could she not have known sooner?

But then, as the initial shock began to fade, a sense of relief washed over her. It was Sasuke. And somehow, that made sense. All the pieces clicked into place. The guardedness, the loneliness, the quiet vulnerability—of course it was him.

Sasuke shifted awkwardly, glancing around the café before looking back at her. “So… now what?”

Hinata smiled softly, the tension easing from her shoulders. She didn’t know what came next, but for the first time, she didn’t feel so alone. The walls between them had come down, and now, face to face, things felt different—but not in a bad way.

“Maybe… we can just start by talking,” she said quietly, her voice gentle but steady.

Sasuke looked at her for a long moment, his expression unreadable as always, but there was something softer in his gaze now. He gave a slight nod, pulling out a chair and sitting across from her.

“Yeah,” he agreed, his voice quieter than usual. “Let’s talk.”

And so they did.

_________

The air between them was thick with an unspoken history—one they hadn't known they shared until now. As Sasuke sat across from Hinata, his usual aloofness remained, but something about the situation made him feel more exposed than usual. He wasn't sure if he liked it or not, but it was too late to retreat.

Hinata, for her part, was still reeling from the realization. UchihaShadow was Sasuke. The enigma of their class, the one who had seemed so unreachable, was the person she had been pouring her thoughts out to late at night under the guise of usernames. It was both unnerving and… reassuring. She didn’t know why, but knowing that it was Sasuke made her feel oddly safe. She already knew his mind, his thoughts, even his pain.

They sat in silence for a few moments, unsure of how to bridge the gap between their digital selves and the real ones now sitting face to face. The café buzzed around them, but it felt distant, almost like background noise in a world that had narrowed down to just the two of them.

Finally, Sasuke broke the silence.

“You said some things,” he started, his voice low, “that made me think.”

Hinata blinked, her fingers gripping the cup of tea a little tighter. She remembered all their conversations. They had been deep—deeper than anything she had shared with anyone in a long time. And she knew Sasuke had been vulnerable, too, even if he never said it outright. He had let down his guard, little by little, in their messages. She had seen parts of him that no one else had.

“I didn’t think… someone like you would feel the same way,” Sasuke continued, his dark eyes focused on hers. There was no malice in his tone, just curiosity. “About being invisible.”

Hinata lowered her gaze, suddenly feeling the weight of his words. Sasuke wasn’t just talking about their online conversations. He was talking about life—how both of them, in different ways, had felt unseen, overshadowed by others. For her, it had been her family, her shyness, her inability to stand out. For Sasuke, it was his prodigious brother , his burden of expectations, and the walls he had built around himself.

“I didn’t expect you to understand,” he admitted quietly, leaning back in his chair. “But you did.”

Hinata swallowed hard, her heart pounding in her chest. She hadn’t realized how much they had in common until now. She had always thought of Sasuke as this distant, untouchable figure, but sitting across from him now, she saw him for what he really was—just as lost and searching as she was.

“I didn’t expect it either,” she whispered, her voice soft but sincere. “But… I guess that’s why we connected.”

Sasuke nodded slightly, his gaze dropping to the table as if he were deep in thought. It wasn’t often that he let himself be this open, this exposed, and part of him still felt the urge to put his walls back up. But there was something about Hinata that made him feel like he didn’t need to. Maybe it was because she had already seen the parts of him that no one else had. Or maybe it was because, in her own quiet way, she was just like him.

“Do you regret it?” he asked suddenly, his eyes flicking back up to meet hers.

Hinata looked startled by the question. “Regret what?”

“Talking to me,” he clarified. “Now that you know who I am.”

She paused for a moment, considering his words. Did she regret it? Sasuke Uchiha, the boy she had always thought was out of reach, had turned out to be the person she had connected with so deeply. It was unexpected, yes, but regret? No, she didn’t regret it. Not at all.

A small, shy smile tugged at her lips. “No, I don’t regret it.”

Sasuke stared at her for a moment, as if he were trying to understand her answer, to find any trace of dishonesty. But there was none. She meant it. And for some reason, that made his chest feel lighter, even if he didn’t show it.

“Good,” he muttered, leaning forward slightly, his elbows resting on the table. “Because neither do I.”

Hinata’s smile widened just a fraction, but it was enough to soften the tension between them. The initial shock of their discovery had passed, and now there was something else in the air—something more comfortable, more familiar.

They began to talk. Really talk. It was slow at first, stilted, as they tried to bridge the gap between their online personas and their real-life selves. But soon, the conversation flowed more easily. They discussed everything from the classes they hated, to the professors they avoided, to the little things in their lives that they had never shared with anyone before.

Sasuke found himself more open than he had ever been with anyone, and Hinata, for once, wasn’t afraid to speak her mind. It felt natural, as if they had always been talking like this, even though they had barely exchanged a word in real life before today.

Time passed without either of them noticing. The café grew quieter as the afternoon turned into evening, and still, they sat there, lost in conversation. It wasn’t until the barista began to wipe down tables that Sasuke realized how late it had gotten.

“We should probably go,” he said, glancing out the window at the fading light.

Hinata nodded, though she looked reluctant to leave. She had never imagined she would spend the entire day talking to Sasuke Uchiha of all people, and now that she had, she didn’t want it to end.

Sasuke stood up, slipping his phone into his pocket before looking down at her. “See you in class tomorrow?”

It wasn’t really a question. More of a statement. But there was a hint of uncertainty in his voice that made Hinata smile.

“Yeah,” she replied, standing up and gathering her things. “Tomorrow.”

As they left the café and walked out into the cool evening air, neither of them said much. But the silence wasn’t uncomfortable. It was the kind of silence that spoke of understanding—of two people who had found something they hadn’t known they were looking for.

As they walked in separate directions, Sasuke couldn’t help but glance back at Hinata’s retreating figure. A small, almost imperceptible smile tugged at his lips. He didn’t know what would come next, but for the first time in a long time, he felt like he didn’t have to carry the weight of his world alone.

And Hinata, walking back to her dorm with a lightness in her step, couldn’t stop the warmth blooming in her chest. She had always admired Sasuke from afar, but now, she realized, they were more alike than she had ever imagined.

Tomorrow, they would meet again. And for the first time, neither of them would be strangers.

_______

As Hinata walked back to her dorm, the fading light of the evening bathed the campus in soft hues of orange and pink. She felt the warmth of those colors reflect in her chest, like the beginnings of something unknown yet exciting. She kept replaying the day's conversation with Sasuke in her mind—the way he had opened up to her, the quiet vulnerability in his voice that most people probably never got to hear.

She had always known him as the distant genius, the one who seemed far beyond anyone's reach. Yet today, he had felt so... human. Real. And maybe, just maybe, someone she could connect with beyond their brief, unexpected online anonymity.

A quiet smile played on her lips as she entered her dorm, slipping off her shoes and settling down on her bed. Her phone vibrated with a notification, snapping her out of her thoughts. She picked it up and glanced at the screen.

A new message from UchihaShadow.

She hesitated for a moment, her heart skipping a beat. Even though they had spent the entire day together, the dynamic of their online conversations still held a certain intimacy that felt different, special. She tapped the notification and opened the message.

UchihaShadow: Did you make it back?

Hinata blinked, surprised at the simplicity of his message. Sasuke wasn’t one to ask personal questions, at least not directly. Yet, here he was, checking in on her. It was a small gesture, but it made her feel… seen.

ByakuganThoughts: Just got back. You?

There was a brief pause before his response came through.

UchihaShadow: Yeah. I was just thinking about our conversation.

Hinata’s fingers hovered over the keyboard as she thought about what to say. She didn’t want to push too much, but the truth was, she had been thinking about their conversation too.

ByakuganThoughts: Me too. It feels strange… knowing it’s you. But a good kind of strange.

Another pause. This time longer. Hinata wondered if maybe she had said too much, if she had somehow made things awkward. But before she could start worrying too much, his reply came in.

UchihaShadow: Yeah. I didn’t expect it either. But maybe it’s not as strange as we think.

Hinata smiled to herself. Sasuke wasn’t exactly a man of many words, but he had a way of saying things that made her feel understood. Maybe it wasn’t so strange, after all. Maybe this was how it was meant to be.

She leaned back against her pillow, thinking about how tomorrow, she’d be seeing him again—not as UchihaShadow, but as Sasuke. The idea sent a flutter of nerves through her, but it was also exciting. She had spent so long admiring him from afar, thinking she’d never be able to speak to him, let alone have a real conversation. And now, she had a chance to build something real.

UchihaShadow: I was thinking actually, would you like to meet at the same café after class?

ByakuganThoughts: Yeah I'd like to

She set her phone down, a content smile settling on her lips. Tomorrow was just another day, but it felt like the start of something new, something neither of them had anticipated.

The next day, Sasuke found himself waiting at the same café, his back to the window, fingers idly tapping the table. He wasn’t used to this—waiting for someone, especially not for a girl. Normally, he didn’t make plans like this. Normally, he avoided unnecessary interaction. But here he was, checking the time on his phone, his nerves betraying him.

Sasuke wasn’t the type to second-guess himself, but for some reason, today felt different. Yesterday had felt... natural, but now, in the light of day, he was keenly aware that this was new territory. He had spent so long keeping people at arm’s length, and now here was Hinata—someone who had already broken through those barriers in ways no one else had.

He caught a glimpse of her through the window as she approached, her steps light, but purposeful. She paused for a second, as if gathering her courage, before walking into the café and heading toward their table.

“Hey,” she greeted softly, offering him a small smile as she sat down.

Sasuke nodded in acknowledgment, his dark eyes meeting hers for a brief second before he glanced away. “Hey.”

The silence that followed wasn’t uncomfortable, but it wasn’t quite as easy as yesterday either. There was an unspoken tension between them, a subtle awareness of the shift in their relationship now that they knew who each other really was.

Hinata shifted in her seat, feeling the weight of it too. “I… we...don't need to talk about yesterday,” she admitted, her voice quiet.

Sasuke’s gaze flicked back to hers, and for a moment, he considered how to respond. He had never been one to indulge in unnecessary conversation, but with Hinata, things felt different. There was no pretense with her, no need to put up a front. He had spent years hiding behind walls, but now, he didn’t feel the need to keep them so high.

“Why wouldn’t we talk about it?” he asked, his tone serious but not unkind.

Hinata blinked, caught off guard by his straightforwardness. “I just wasn’t sure if… you wanted to,” she explained, feeling a little self-conscious under his steady gaze.

Sasuke sighed, leaning back in his chair. “I’m not good at this,” he admitted, his voice low. “Talking. Interacting. But with you… it was easier. I don’t know why.”

Hinata’s eyes widened slightly. Hearing him say that—admit that—made her heart skip a beat. It was one of the few times she had ever heard Sasuke acknowledge his own feelings, and it meant more to her than he probably realized.

“I feel the same,” she confessed, her fingers tracing the rim of her cup nervously. “It’s easier with you.”

Sasuke’s gaze softened, just a fraction, as he watched her. There was something calming about her presence, something that made him feel like he didn’t have to hide. He had never expected to find that kind of understanding in someone, let alone someone like Hinata. She had always seemed so quiet, so reserved, but now that he knew her—really knew her—he saw that there was more to her than anyone gave her credit for.

He leaned forward slightly, resting his elbows on the table as he regarded her with a newfound intensity. “So, what now?” he asked, his voice low but clear.

Hinata met his gaze, her heart racing in her chest. She wasn’t sure what the future held for them, but for the first time, she wasn’t afraid to find out. Sasuke was no longer the unreachable figure in the distance. He was someone real, someone she could talk to, someone who understood her in ways no one else did.

“We see what happens,” she replied softly, a small smile tugging at her lips.

Sasuke nodded, his expression unreadable, but there was a sense of agreement in his silence. Whatever came next, they would live it together.
