The Lisette Intro

Summary:

I really liked my intro for this campaign so here it is.

Work Text:

Killers, renegades, liars and thieves, welcome to Prose.

Prose is a world balancing on the edge of exploration and discovery. Crackling magic and the salted sea scent the air hand in hand. The land itself is sprawling. Lush green forests, expansive beaches, and unique towns make it up. This world is beautiful, large, daunting.

But we don't care about the world, at least not right now. Right now, we care about a little ship called the Lisette. The Lisette is an ex-merchant tall ship, taken many years ago from its fleet from Kei Lumenura. Through the years, she has been passed from one dead pirate to the next. The transference of ownership on the sea is always violent and always ends in death, and the Lisette is no different. Blood spatters are baked onto the walls, and sometimes, when the moon hits it just right, there are ghosts of pirates long before you that haunt the lower decks.

More than all of that, though, she is yours.

Upon the deck of the Lisette, is a small crew of five pirates. These pirates, you, are bracing for a storm.

The wind whips at your clothing and hair and the waves crash menacingly against the bow.

We see a tall elven man. What is he doing?

[Liam doesn't do much of anything. Flashback.]

We see Liam sitting at the dinner table with his father in Loamvill. His father is not quite glaring at Liam, but his gaze is not kind. How receptive is Liam?

[Do your best to play out the scene. The main goal is that Liam's father, Clamrick, wants Liam out of here.]

Liam lays in his bed later that night. His mind is swimming. He is faces with the choice. Does he follow his father's wishes, or does he continue to bury himself in mediocrity. What does he do?

[He chooses to leave. This part is set in stone.]

We see a goblin girl. What is she doing?

[Nessie hides and protects herself. Flashback.]

Suddenly, we see Nessie much younger. She splashes into water, gasping for air but not finding any. She's choking. She's drowning. For a long while Nessie struggles, but cannot swim fast enough to the surface. Nessie is going to die.

But then, she feels something surround her, tightening and squeezing. Nessie now has a choice. Does she accept death, or does she keep fighting?

[She chooses to live. This is set in stone.]

We see a fighter, bracing on deck. What is he doing?

[Caspian is doing all he can manage. Flashback.]

Caspian sits at a tavern, nursing a goblet of mead. It doesn't sit well in his stomach. You see, Caspian is a lonely man. He spends his days as a mercenary, doing whatever he can for money. He can speak and make friends, but none of them stick. He sits alone, always.

He is shocked when a tall woman moves to stand in front of him. She offers him a choice, to leave and become something, or to not. What does he do?

[He chooses to leave. This is set in stone.]

We see a wizard. What are they doing?

[Jackie is helping Caspian. Flashback.]

In a similar tavern, the lights are low. All of the hubub has died down, and most of the patrons have left. Jackie has been thinking, anxiety settling in their stomach. The tall woman offered them an out, too, but could they take it?

Jackie stands in front of their grandparents. The ones who took care of them when it shouldn't have been their job. How does Jackie break it to them?

[They try their best, but they need to explore the world. This is set in stone.]

We see, at the helm, a siren, the captain of this vessel. What is she doing?

[Orlaith is commanding her crew. Flashback.]

We see the Lisette, though she is currently under attack. Dead bodies litter the deck, and there's a horrible stillness that is uncharacteristic of a tallship. We see Orlaith, approaching a man struggling on the ground. He is wearing captain's garments. He is the last alive. Orlaith holds her sword tightly in her grip. What does she do?

[She kills him. This is set in stone.]
