Sohyun let out a long breath as she sank deeper into the plush lounge chair by the pool, one hand resting on her slightly rounded belly. The sun was warm on her skin, the sound of waves crashing in the distance, and the cool ocean breeze mixed with the scent of salt and sunscreen. It was supposed to be the perfect vacation, a chance for her and Xinyu to escape for a few days before their lives changed forever with the arrival of their baby.
Six months pregnant and more hormonal than she cared to admit, Sohyun thought she would be able to relax and just enjoy some time alone with her wife. But every time she looked up, Xinyu was surrounded by women.
Sohyun sighed, staring at Xinyu across the pool. Her wife was as radiant as ever, her easy charm and striking looks drawing attention everywhere she went. Xinyu was chatting with a group of women, their laughter floating through the air as they stood a little too close, smiled a little too much. One of them, in particular, had been practically glued to her side for the past hour, her hand casually brushing Xinyu’s arm, her eyes lingering a little too long on her.
And Xinyu, ever oblivious, just smiled back.
Sohyun’s stomach twisted with an unfamiliar feeling—jealousy. She hated feeling this way, especially since she knew Xinyu wasn’t the type to flirt back. Her wife had always been kind, warm, and completely devoted to her. But right now, sitting by the pool with her swollen belly and her emotions all over the place, Sohyun couldn’t help but feel… insecure.
She had never been the type to doubt herself or Xinyu, but pregnancy had brought out a side of her she wasn’t used to. Her body was changing, her emotions swinging wildly from one extreme to the other, and now, watching beautiful women fawn over her wife was making her feel things she didn’t want to admit.
Sohyun shifted uncomfortably in her chair, biting her lip as she watched the woman lean in close to Xinyu, laughing at something she said. Xinyu, of course, smiled back, completely unaware of how the interaction looked from across the pool.
That was it.
Sohyun pushed herself to her feet, waddling slightly as she marched across the pool deck. The jealousy was bubbling up inside her now, and she couldn’t stop herself. She reached Xinyu just as the woman was about to touch her arm again.
Without saying a word, Sohyun grabbed Xinyu’s wrist, pulling her away from the group of women.
“Sohyun?” Xinyu’s voice was full of surprise as she followed her wife, her steps quick to match Sohyun’s sudden urgency. “What’s going on?”
They stopped in a quieter corner of the resort, away from the prying eyes of the women and the rest of the vacationers. Sohyun’s chest was heaving, her emotions swirling in a mess of anger, insecurity, and frustration.
“What was that about?” Xinyu asked, her tone gentle but confused. “You dragged me away like something was wrong.”
Sohyun blinked, trying to hold back the tears that were threatening to spill over. “Why are you letting them flirt with you?” Her voice came out harsher than she intended, her frustration leaking through.
Xinyu’s eyes widened in surprise. “What? Flirting? Sohyun, no one was flirting with me. We were just talking—”
“They were all over you, Xinyu!” Sohyun interrupted, her voice rising. “Especially that one girl. She couldn’t keep her hands off you!”
Xinyu looked stunned, as if the idea of being flirted with hadn’t even crossed her mind. “Sohyun, I didn’t even notice. I swear, I wasn’t paying attention to them like that. You know I only have eyes for you.”
Sohyun’s chest tightened, the insecurity she had been holding in finally spilling out. “But look at me!” Her voice cracked as she gestured to herself. “I’m six months pregnant, I’ve gained weight, I’m hormonal, and I feel… I don’t know, unattractive. And you’re just over there with all these beautiful women surrounding you like you’re the most eligible person on the planet, and it makes me feel—”
She broke off, her throat tightening as the tears she had been holding back finally started to fall.
Xinyu’s expression softened immediately, and before Sohyun could say anything else, Xinyu closed the distance between them, pulling her into a gentle embrace.
“Hey,” Xinyu whispered, her voice soothing as she held Sohyun close. “Don’t talk like that. You’re beautiful, Sohyun. Always have been, always will be. I don’t care what those other women think. I’m yours. Only yours.”
Sohyun buried her face in Xinyu’s shoulder, her body trembling slightly as she let herself cry. It wasn’t just about the women by the pool—it was everything. The stress of the pregnancy, the changes in her body, the overwhelming emotions that seemed to hit her in waves.
“I’m sorry,” Sohyun whispered, her voice muffled against Xinyu’s shirt. “I know I’m being ridiculous. I just… I don’t feel like myself lately.”
Xinyu pulled back slightly, lifting Sohyun’s chin so their eyes met. “You don’t have to apologize. I get it, you’re going through so much right now. But listen to me, Sohyun. I love you. I’m in love with you, pregnant or not, no matter how you’re feeling about yourself. You’re the only one I see, and nothing’s going to change that.”
Sohyun sniffled, wiping at her eyes as she looked up at Xinyu. The sincerity in her wife’s voice, the way she was looking at her with so much love, made Sohyun’s heart ache in the best way.
“You really mean that?” she asked, her voice small.
Xinyu smiled, her thumb brushing away the last of Sohyun’s tears. “Of course I do. You’re everything to me. And if I ever made you feel like I wasn’t paying attention to you, I’m sorry. That’s the last thing I’d want.”
Sohyun let out a shaky breath, the tension that had been building up inside her finally starting to fade. “I’m sorry I dragged you away like that. I just… I couldn’t help it.”
Xinyu laughed softly, pressing a kiss to Sohyun’s forehead. “It’s okay. You can drag me away any time you want. In fact, I kind of like it when you’re a little possessive.”
Sohyun managed a small smile, her heart feeling lighter now. “I just… I love you, Xinyu. And I get scared sometimes.”
Xinyu’s eyes softened, her hand resting gently on Sohyun’s belly. “You don’t have to be scared. I’m not going anywhere. You, me, and our baby? We’re going to be just fine.”
Sohyun leaned into Xinyu’s embrace, her heart swelling with love and relief. Xinyu always knew just what to say, how to make her feel safe, loved, and cherished.
“Thank you,” Sohyun whispered, closing her eyes as she rested against Xinyu. “For everything.”
Xinyu kissed the top of her head, her arms wrapping around her protectively. “Always, love. Always.”
Sohyun knew that her insecurities wouldn’t disappear overnight, but as long as Xinyu was by her side, she knew she could handle anything. They would face it all together, just like they always had.
