Work Text:
Moon laughed evilly as Solar cursed, his little character getting shoved offscreen by the bomb he threw. Quickly, Moon navigated around an obstacle and flew past where Solar’s character had just respawned. He was laser focused in on the course, making sure not to bump anything and lose the lead he had gained.
Just as he was approaching the finish line, something fell against his arm and he jumped, character veering off to the side and allowing Solar enough room to overtake him and claim victory. Moon groaned as Solar grinned at him, though another thud against his thigh reminded him of why he had lost. Looking down, he found Sun was slumped against his side, optics dark and eyes closed.
“Sunny?” Moon asked, gently shaking his shoulder. Sun let out an unintelligible mumble in response, rays twitching.
“Did he fall asleep?” Solar asked, leaning forward on Moon’s other side to look.
“Yeah, he must’ve forgotten to charge again.”
“Ah… he’s been getting worse about that since what happened with Ruin.”
Moon winced, setting aside his own controller and gently rubbing his hand along Sun’s arm for a few moments before gently removing his controller from his limp fingers.
“Yeah… I’m just glad that’s all over now,” Moon sniffed, startling when he felt Solar slide his hand under his own, giving it a gentle squeeze.
“It’s over now. I’m not going anywhere again; you’re stuck with me.”
Moon took a breath, squeezing the gloved fingers back before pulling away. Carefully, Moon shifts out from under his brother and stands in front of the couch, slipping his arms under his back and legs. As smoothly as he can manage, Moon lifts Sun into a bridal carry, his head resting against his shoulder.
“Mmmh…?” Sun mumbles, eyes blinking and faceplate furrowing a little in confusion.
Moon nudges his head against his brothers, whispering, “Shhh brother, go back to sleep. You wore down your battery again.”
Sun grumbles, lifting a hand to pat at Moon’s face before tucking his own back under his chin. Moon tries his hardest to contain his snickering and makes for the door, nudging it open with his foot. Then, glancing over his shoulder, he quickly tells Solar he’ll be right back.
The trip upstairs to deposit Sun in his room is a regular enough occurrence that Moon doesn’t have to worry about tripping over something or bumping his sleeping brother into anything other than his demon cats. Moon swears they love to mess with him. They’re the perfect angels for Sun and even Solar! But him? Oh, sometimes they’ll act all nice and cuddly but they just love to try and trip him up in ways he never sees them try with literally anyone else. He’s not entirely sure if he should be offended or feel special that they treat him differently. At least Sun finds it adorable, so he can’t genuinely complain. The fluffy bastards are great snuggle buddies when he’s feeling terrible at home while Sun is stuck at the daycare cleaning up after another work day.
Sure enough, his audio processors pick up the fast pattering of tiny feet as the creatures dart around the corner as he approaches Sun’s room. Moon stops, bracing himself to dodge their little bodies. Thankfully, they reel to a stop when they spot Sun in his arms, mrrping curiously at their limp owner.
“He’s fine,” Moon huffed, inching his way forward and keeping an eye on their positions. “Now scooch so I can get him in bed.”
Surprisingly, the cats obeyed and let him enter Sun’s room where he was able to gently deposit him onto the bed. Pulling the sheet out from under him was a little difficult, but he managed to get it out far enough he could drape it over his exhausted brother. The cats jumped out from nowhere onto the bed, snuggling on Sun’s chest and the crook of his arm. Moon smiled, tilting Sun’s faceplate just enough that he could plug him in to charge and press a quick kiss to his forehead.
“Sleep well, brother.”
When Moon reentered the game room, Solar was still there, though slumped down a little further than before. He jolted up when Moon sat next to him, blinking rapidly before grabbing both their controllers.
“Still up for more?” Moon asked, taking the offered controller and getting comfortable, huffing as he flicks the belled end of his hat off his shoulder so it didn’t get in the way.
“Y-yeah, definitely,” Solar shakes his head, sitting up a bit more and quickly navigating through the selection menu.
Moon squints suspiciously at him, but decides to let it go for now. “Good, ‘cause now Sun isn’t here to distract me. You’re going down.”
“Oh yeah? Better think of a good excuse for why you lose to me this time then.” Solar smirks at him and Moon gasps dramatically, shoving his shoulder playfully. Solar hits play and the game starts.
Several rounds later, Moon feels himself growing tired, but he refuses to be the first to crack. He and Solar are currently tied for wins, and this last game will decide the victor of their impromptu competition.
A weight thumps against his side and Moon startles, staring down incredulously at the bot now laying heavily over his leg and side. Game forgotten as both he and Solar fail to continue, letting the NPC’s take the win from them, Moon wants to laugh at how ridiculous it is that this has happened again in the same night. What is it with these guys and not charging?
He firmly ignores the part of him the reminds him that he’s just as guilty of the same, and is only now getting better after recent events.
Moon shuts off the TV and drops his controller onto the coffee table, about to reach for Solar’s when it falls to the ground with a clatter. Moon winces, though finds Solar hasn’t so much as twitched. He looks so cute like this, though Moon quickly banishes the thought away.
He probably should get up, get them both into a proper bed with their charging cords but… Moon is comfortable. Really comfortable actually. And Solar looks comfortable too. And he’s also very tired. The thought of carrying another animatronic up the stairs makes him want to groan. It’s not that difficult, he knows, but right now it seems like so much unnecessary effort.
…It’s not like any of them have work in the morning. And Sun is currently charging properly, so if rest mode doesn’t recharge them enough to get to a cable in the morning, then Sun will be able to plug them both in.
Moon yawns, settling back down against the couch and closing his eyes. It wouldn’t hurt to stay here and rest for a few hours, he could always get them both to a proper bed later when he’s more rested and more able to fight how comfortable he is right now. It doesn’t take long for Moon to slip into rest mode, one hand resting on Solar’s upper back just to remind himself there’s someone else there.
Moon blinks awake several hours later, finding the room much brighter than it was last night now that the sun has risen. He shifts, making to sit up only to find he can’t. Looking down, he pauses before remembering last night and his decision to stay down here. At some point he and Solar had migrated to lay down on the couch properly, with Solar laying on top of him, one arm tucked under his back between the couch with the other resting on the other side by Moon’s head on the cushion.
Moon smiles, idly rubbing the orange bots back as he watches him rest. Sadly, he’s disappointed when a few minutes later Solar starts to stir, head lifting as he blinks sleepily, optics still dim. Moon chuckles, the vibration and sound drawing Solar’s attention to him.
“Morning Solar, sleep well?” He teases, tapping his fingers on his back.
“Hmmgh… mornin’” Solar slurred, clearly still half asleep. Moon was about to tease him further when Solar suddenly turned his face, pressing his lips against Moon’s cheek in a clumsy kiss.
Moon freezes, eyes blowing wide.
Then, a moment later, so does Solar.
Moon barely has any time to process what the fuck just happened before Solar starts desperately trying to pull away, now fully awake. Moon makes a startled noise, grabbing at him to stop him from leaving. Solar stares at him, panic clear as day on his face as he goes still, fans on high. Moon can feel him shaking slightly under his hold, so he gentles his grip but is careful not to give him room to escape just yet.
“S-Solar, what?”
Solar’s eyes dart away anxiously, fists clenching just within his line of sight thanks to the arm of the couch propping his head up.
“I- it was an accident. So sorry. I didn’t- Wasn’t thinking-“ Solar stutters, looking everywhere but at his face.
Moon feels something flutter inside him, and he thinks back to how comfortable he was waking up being cuddled by Solar. Different to how comfortable he felt when he and Sun did the same. Thinks about the chaste kiss to his cheek and how sweet Solar looked while asleep. Yes, it was completely unexpected but… he hadn’t disliked it, he’s surprised to find. Maybe…?
“Don’t be,” Moon starts, halting unsurely before giving a nervous smile. “I… I liked it.”
Solar stares at him, fans slowing before spinning fast again as he looks away with an awkward chuckle, fingers tapping against Moon’s chest anxiously.
“Yeah?”
“Y-yeah.”
“Can… can I?”
Moon vents a breath, nodding shyly as Solar looks between his lips and eyes. Solar leans down, settling himself back over Moon similar to how they had woken, his arms automatically coming up to hug around the mechanics back as they stare at each other. Hesitantly, Solar leans in and gently presses their lips together.
It’s oh so soft, barely there. It feels strange, and Moon isn’t quite sure how this is supposed to work and he doesn’t like that one as much as before. Maybe Solar realises how he tensed and grew uncomfortable, because he doesn’t linger, instead deciding to press little pecks against his mouth that Moon does his best to return. He likes this much better. Easier, doesn’t feel as weird, with less expectation and he doesn’t have to worry about how to position his face or lips. He can just enjoy the feeling without it lingering and becoming uncomfortable.
He finds himself sighing into the little kisses, hugging Solar close even after the other stops, simply resting his forehead against his, the rim of his nightcap scrunching a little as it’s displaced slightly upwards.
Everything feels vaguely tingly, like bubbles popping inside his chest and fingertips. Moon hasn’t felt that before. It definitely feels entirely different to when he and Sun give each other a quick brotherly peck of affection or tease. Moon has no idea how to describe it, it’s all so new, but he thinks he likes it. Thinks he likes Solar.
Oh.
The realisation washes over Moon like a tide. Oh. That makes a lot of sense actually, why he couldn’t quite place why his affection for Solar didn’t feel the same as his affection for Sun and his other siblings.
“Was that alright?” Solar asks quietly, as if speaking any louder will shatter the moment.
Moon smiles, pressing a quick kiss to the dark corner of the others mouth. “Yeah. Yeah it was more than alright.”
Solar grins, looking relieved and elated all at once. “I’ve been wanting to do that for a while.”
Moon cocks his only eyebrow, lips twitching to fight the laugh that wants to escape. “Yeah? Well maybe you should do it again, just to be sure to get it out of your system.”
Solar lets out a shocked and slightly flustered chuckle. “Should I?”
“Yeah, you should. Gotta make sure you covered all your bases, right?”
“Hmm…”
Solar leans in again and the chaste little kisses continue, trailing along Moon’s lips and around the crescent side of his faceplate. Solar is just about to give the other half of his face the same attention when there’s suddenly a loud crash that startles them apart, heads snapping towards the door where Sun stands. Two broken coffee cups leaking brown liquid on the floor lay in pieces at his feet, explaining the crash, though he, in moment completely out of character, seems like he doesn’t even notice the mess, too busy staring at them with wide eyes and a slack jaw.
“WHAT?!” Sun shrieks, stammering and gesturing at them and at nothing in particular. “Since when?!”
…Well this was awkward.
