“Almond Cookie? Almond Cookie?”
The echoes of his name rang through Almond Cookie’s ear. The lightness of his head slowly began to finally fade away as weight was brought back down on him.
“Almond Cookie!”
Almond Cookie finally jolts awake. Frazzled, he checks his surroundings only to realize he wasn’t back at the station. The sky was far too dark, the couch far too cozy. The light above him was warmer than usual too. He was…home.
“Almond Cookie!” a familiar voice soon came into focus, “You’re awake! I was worried sick about you!”
Latte Cookie loomed over him softly, her delicate hand brush to the side of his cheek as her solemn look gazed upon the restless man. Almond slightly rose from the couch as he rubbed his eyes in exhaustion.
“L-Latte…how long was I out for?” He murmured.
“A few hours,” Latte replied with a shaken voice, “You were chasing some thief and then you just collapsed on the street! The doctors said it was probably a mix of a lack of sleep and overworking yourself.”
Almond exhaled in embarrassment with his hand over his forehead. His work finally got up to him. What a joke. He thought to himself.
“Almond, this is what I was talking about!” Latte scolded, “You need to take care of yourself! I know how important your job is to you but you can’t keep doing it like this!”
“I’m fine.” Almond begrudgingly replied, “You know the department is counting on me, I can't let them down.”
“You’ll work yourself to death at this point!” Latte exclaimed, growing emotional, “I’m worried about you! We’re all worried about you..”
Almond’s look grew solemn. He slowly reached his hand out to Latte’s and gripped it tightly. His other arm then wrapped around Latte as he drew her close.
“I…I’ll be careful next time.” He finally relented.
Latte sighed in relief, “That’s all I wanted to hear.”
The two maintained that embrace for a long while. Rocking against each other back and forth. As the rain poured down more quietly the tense nature in the air seized. The two finally grew a smile.
“Don’t make me leave here,” Almond whispered, “Just not yet.”
Latte chuckled and simply kissed his cheek. There they were together, comfort surrounding them, as the room grew warm. Finally, a weight is off their shoulders.
