Chapter 1: the last push

Chapter Text

I sighed, putting my notebooks into my bag. Just another day for Izuku Midoriya! A hand snatched one of my notebooks, explosions coming off from the hand. I stared blankly at the culprit. Dumbass.

He went on, doing his whole charade. Frankly, I don't give a shit. Eventually, the blonde haired idiot threw my notebook out the window as I watched it fall into the koi pond below. Damn. "If you want to be a hero that badly, there might be another way.." 'Kay dumbass.

"Just pray you'll be born with a quirk in your next life and take a swan dive off the roof of the building." I blinked, adding suicide baiting to the list of crimes this fucker's committed and never will be charged with. His friends laughed and continued to go out the classroom door. I collected all of my belongings and walked down to the koi pond, grabbing my notebook and shaking it.

"Well, guess that's ruined now." I mumbled, continuing to walk home. "Maybe I won't, maybe I will, who's to say? Definitely not Kacchan. That dumbass... No wonder he's blonde." The moment I appeared underneath a bridge, a being made of sludge appeared. I blankly turned around. Oh shit.

"Do you think... I could.. Be a hero?" I asked All Might, who made sure I didn't suffocate by that green sludge. He looked at me.

"No."

"..No?"

"No. A hero needs a quirk young man. Now, I must get going! Gotta get this villain in custody!" He slapped his pants pockets and walked to the rooftop's exit, opening the door and leaving me all alone. I looked down from the roof.

"That dumbass.. I could jump off right now. I could die right now. Suicide. A quirkless middle schooler jumped off a roof on a fateful day. Would never make the headlines." I sighed, walking out the door and down the steps. "Shouldn't have left me up here. Dumbass. Worst number one ever."

I walked down the stairs.

One step.

Two.

Why me?

Five.. Six.

Maybe I should've ran and jumped off while he was still there.

Nine.. Ten.

I sighed. Dumbass.

BOOM!! My head snapped towards the sound. "What the.."

People ran, both towards and away from it. I got pushed amongst them, being pulled in. I turned. Oh my fucking god it's that sludge guy! The suffocating asshole. I took a deep breath. Goddammit. Think! Think! Why would he-

...That's it. "It's all my fault.." I whispered. I looked down at my feet then towards the poor person suffering through what I did. Something I could've prevented..

..

Kacchan? I froze. Kacchan? That bitch among everyone it could've been??? I stifled a laugh. Loser. Bright blonde hair. I looked to my right. All Might?

"I can only keep up this form for a couple hours at most."

Fuck.

I sat around, being scolded by those who called themselves heroes, when they did nothing at all.

"Kid, you could've gotten hurt!" But I didn't.

"You shouldn't run into a battle like that! Sheesh, kids these days." Your number one couldn't help and neither could your dumbass.

I sighed, "Yeah yeah, I know." I looked towards the idiotic heroes. "Can I go home now? School ended hours ago and my mom's waiting. I can't keep her waiting like that." The hero pinched the bridge of his nose.

"I guess. Just... Be careful kid, 'ight? Don't go causing anymore trouble." Like I would ever. I pushed myself up, walking away. "And kid?" I turned around.

"Don't do that again."

I squinted my eyes at the so called hero, "I won't." I turned away, walking home. Fucking asshole.

I glanced into a dark alleyway, seeing a figure with hood up, light blue bangs peeking through. "Hey, kid." he said. Shit.

"Yeah..?"

"What's wrong? Did some pathetic hero do something to ya?" I squinted my eyes as he stared at me, red eyes seemingly glowing.

"Why? What's it to you?" I crossed my arms, lifting my head to meet his gaze. You're barely taller pffft.

"I can help you become better than those idiots. Better than anyone on average, both villains and heroes." I hummed. "You can follow me and my master. Become the best."

"I feel like there's a catch to that though." I sighed, my head drooping as my gaze met the stranger's red eyes. "What is it, crusty?"

He laughed. "It's simple really.."

"If it's simple you'd tell me already. What. Is. The. Catch."

"The catch is simple. You'll be seen as a villain." Crusty's eyes watched me, looking for a reaction. "You don't seem surprised at all."

"That's because I'm not."

"You're not?"

"I'm not, really."

"Why not?" I sighed. Can this dude be any dumber?

"Because, unlike some people, I have brain cells. You're in all black, hiding your face the best you can with that big ass hood of yours, the only thing that stands out is your dry ass skin, blue hair, and red shoes." Crusty hummed.

"Is that so?"

"Yes."

"So you knew I was a villain and still talked to me?"

"Your body language was not violent nor malicious."

"You're a smart kid."

"I don't care."

"Can I give you my business card?" Crusty smiled.

"Why would I want that?" I sighed, tapping my foot. Idiot.

"You're a smart kid, you'll know the right decision."

"Would I though? I could easily rat you out to the police right now."

"But would you? I haven't done anything to you unlike those heroes." I squinted at him. Damn. "And besides, master can give quirks." I physically felt my body lifting, my head facing up towards him again.

"He can?"

"He can, yes."

"Give me that card and I'll think about it." Crusty smile grew, handing me a card.

"I'll be waiting." He said as he turned aroudn and walked away towards a purple mist and disappeared along with it. I looked down at the card, turning it around. A seemingly empty card except for the number and a shittily written I'll be waiting! on it.

I quickly shoved it in my pocket, continuing my walk home.

I could easily get a quirk and everything. I paused. I can do it right now. I could easily become better than everyone. I quickly pulled it out and texted him.

Hey, it's me. I want in.

Unknown: youre going to have to specify who you are.

Green haired kid.

Unknown: ill be there

I smiled, waiting patiently. A purple mist enveloped me, but I let it. It's the same mist that Crusty walked through. Next thing I know, I'm in a brick bar with a purple mist fancy mcpants staring at me with his yellow eyes.

"Welcome, kid." Purple mist said. "My name is Kurogiri. What's yours?"

"Um..."

"It's alright, you can come up with an alias later." I took a deep breath. Villain name? Alias? What can I..

"My name's Zero." I said, staring down purple mi- Kurogiri. "Zero, similar to what I am to society. Similar to the contributions towards others like me." Kurogiri hummed, his eyes getting bigger like he raised his eyebrows.

"Good good. Go through that door and they're waiting for you, Zero." I nodded, walking towards the doorway Kurogiri pointed at, fidgeting with my backpack strap. What if they kill me? I won't see my mom again. I took a deep breath. It's fine. I made the choice. It'll be my fault for trusting and walking right into the trap.

I walked inside, seeing an almost completely faceless man with machines all over his body and Crusty.

"Welcome to the start of a beautiful path of yours." The faceless man spoke. "I'm All for One. Who are you?"

"I'm Zero."

"Hello, Zero. Come closer, yeah? Shigaraki was just telling me all about you. Tell me, what are your specialties?"

I took a step forward, thinking. "I'm really good at analyzing and figuring stuff out." I said.

"Please, tell me some examples."

"Shigaraki, um, that's the blue haired crusty guy right?" Crusty looked at me with a glare.

"Yes. That's me." Crusty said.

"You're wearing gloves and multiple pieces of fabric over your fingers. Does your quirk come from touching something all at once?" Shigaraki squinted at me.

"Good good." All for One said, a smile evident with the way his skin moved. "He really figured that out without any quirk usage, didn't he, Tomura?"

"He did." Shigaraki grumbled, looking away. "He did."

"I think I got just the quirk for you. And I trust that you can figure it all out." All for One said, his hand reaching out towards my head. A flash happened and my head started pounding. I closed my eyes, tears welling up that threatened to escape. Ow! Fuck!

I felt his hand leave as my knees crumpled below me, falling down. My breathing was heavy as I opened my eyes, vision blurred.

"Wh..What was that?" I mumbled.

"You have been blessed with a quirk now. You're no longer quirkless my friend." Quirkless? How did he?- "I know because I would've been able to feel it and you would've used it against Shigaraki if you did have one." Oh. Still a dumb reason.

I looked around. "So...?"

"Your eyes, a little warning, they're red." Shigaraki said, glancing at me. I looked towards him, a name floating near him along with some text. Tenko Shimura? Quirk: Decay.

"Your quirk's.... Decay?" I mumbled, rubbing my eyes, blinking. "Oh."

"You figured it out quick, didn't you?" All for One said. If there was any sparkles, it'd be around him, like a proud mentor.

"I did." I said, standing up. "Do you possibly have any illegal contacts I can put over the top

of my eyes? That'll maybe cover up the red?"

"And why would you need that?"

"When quirks awaken, they're difficult to turn off and tend to stay the same. I'm assuming it'll be the tame here, no? Wouldn't want anyone figuring it out, do we?" I said, crossing my arms. All for One hummed before a flash of light and contacts laid in my hands.

"Don't worry, I paid for them." I nodded. "The bathroom's over there, enjoy your new toy and we'll be in contact soon." I waved before walking towards the bathroom, putting on my green contacts. These are more difficult than I thought...

Their muffled conversation reached my ears.

"Do you think he's a great fit, master?" Shigaraki said.

"I do, Tomura." All for One replied with obvious malicious intent. "Thank you, Tomura."

"Anytime master."

I sighed. They're using me, obviously. I just simply got up and walked out towards Kurogiri. "Hey, I have a question. Is there any way to drop me off near my house, so we can pretend that I've been walking this whole time for heroes sake?" Kurogiri nodded and hummed.

"I can yes. What district?"

I sighed, stepping out of the portal looking at the sunset. It's so pretty. Such a refreshing day.

"Hey!" An all too familiar voice yelled. "Deku!" I froze, turning around. Kacchan...

"What?"

"Just so you know, I didn't need your help back there! I don't ever need help from a quirkless freak like you! I could've done it myself! I could've escaped! Nobody needs you. I don't need you. Don't think you're better than me because of that. You never are, never will be, and never was." I sighed.

"Okay." Kacch- Bakugo looked pleased, turning around and stomping away all so proudly. Dumbass. I sighed, turning back and continuing my walk.

"Kid!" A skeletal figure jumped in front of me. All Might. I stared at him. What is with this? Why are people jumping in front of me, asking me things, being assholes... Why today? Is this some shonen or something?

"Yes?" I mumbled annoyed.

"What you did back there... It was incredible. I know I said you couldn't be a hero, but there's another thing heroes need that isn't just having a quirk." I held back the urge to roll my eyes. "You acted before your brain could think, you moved to save that young boy without a second thought, no hesitation. That's what a hero needs."

"Okay?"

"I actually have a quirk that can be passed on from generation to generation, man to man. You kid, can be a hero." He said, reaching his arm out towards me. I took a deep breath.

"Really? You think so?"

"I do."

Shockingly, my first thought wasn't oh my god! I can be a hero! No. It was far from that.

What can I do to use his ignorance to help Shigaraki?

I walked inside my apartment, setting down my bag and slipping on my slippers. "Hey Mom! I'm home!"

"Welcome back sweetie! How was school?" she said, peeking her head out from the kitchen.

"It was good Mom." I said, walking. "Oh is that katsudon?"

"It is yeah! It's almost done, you should work on your homework sweetie."

"Alright, love you."

"Love you too." I smiled at her as I entered my room, sitting down on the bed. I already did my homework hours ago.

I sighed, loading up my desktop and scrolling through the internet.

All Might Defeated the Sludge!

Our Number One Strikes Again!

I moved the cursor, right clicking the icon and shut down the computer. Goddammit. I cannot escape that piece of shit. I laid down, staring at my ceiling.

"Izuku? Izu? Izuukuu?" I heard my mom call. I got up and walked out to the kitchen.

"Yeah?"

"Foods done!" I smiled.

"Thank you Mom."

"Anytime sweetie!"

There was one thing I didn't know yet though.

This was obviously the start of something new, the last push I needed to go onto this destined path of mine. Yet, it could've been different.

Everything could.

I sat there, unaware of the future dangers, unaware of everything yet to come, eating my favorite food with my mom, smiling. Both of us were so full of lively chatter, laughs, and full of happiness.
