Work Text:
Amity’s faded purple hair swayed gently as the crisp October air blew through an open window. Luz and Amity were curled up on the couch, while Hunter, Gus and Willow were down in the basement, sewing their costumes for Halloween together. Camila was at work, Vee tagging along for the day as she was curious to learn more about her foster mother’s profession. That left the couple with the whole house to themselves. Amity had been noticing a shift in her girlfriend's demeanour ever since they had been thrown into the Human Realm. How Luz's bubbly personality had been stashed away, how Luz put on a smile which seemed to disappear as soon as she though nobody was looking, how utterly drained and tired she always looked. Amity wanted to do something, anything, just to cheer Luz up, to take her mind off things, even if it was just for a little while. Amity knew all about Luz's love for the human holiday, Halloween. Luz would tell her about the crazy costumes she wore in the years prior, and explain the whole concept of Halloween to Amity and the rest of the Hexsquad.
Amity had also down loads of research about the holiday, eager to celebrate it with her friends and her girl. This research also included couple activities to do for Halloween. The cotton-candy-haired girl scrolled through a website titled ‘100 Couple Activities That Will Get You In The Halloween Spirit’.
‘Matching costumes’ The websites suggested.
We’re already going to be Hecate and Azura. Amity thought.
She continued scrolling.
‘Bake Halloween cookies’ Comedically, Amity's stomach let out a low grumble, causing Luz to look up from her book with a smirk on her face.
“Hey, Luz?” Amity asked.
“Hm?” Luz replied.
"I want to embrace your silly human traditions, and I thought maybe we could…bake Halloween cookies together?” Amity batted her eyelashes at Luz, and she was met with a soft chuckle from Luz, the sound making her heart flutter.
“Well…I suppose we could.” Luz replied, closing her book and gently taking Amity’s hand, the two walking to the kitchen, hand in hand.
“Music?” Luz asked. Before waiting for a reply, she grabbed her phone, and at once, the music echoed through the kitchen.
The two started to pour ingredients into a bowl, their bodies dancing and twirling together as they did.
“Oof!” Amity grunted as flour dusted across her face, causing the two girls to burst into laughter.
“Now, it’s time to shape the cookies into ghosts!” Luz exclaimed, letting go of Amity and opening a draw, getting out a cookie cutter in the shape of a cartoon ghost. The two took turns cutting out cookies, before sending them off into the oven.
The song that was now playing from Luz’s phone was ‘we fell in love in October’ by girl in red.
🎶‘You look so pretty and I love this view’🎶
Amity gazed lovingly at Luz, who gathered all the ingredients and equipment needed to bake cookies. The way her brown eyes shimmered in the sun, was enough to make the Blight’s heart soar
🎶‘We fell in love in October,
that's why, I love fall
looking at the stars
admiring from afar’🎶
M’lady?” Luz extended a hand to Amity, a smirk present on the human’s face. Amity accepted, the two dancing along to the music.
🎶‘My girl, my girl, my girl,
you will be my girl,
my girl, my girl, my girl
you will be my world,
my world, my world, my world,
you will be my girl’🎶
Their bodies swayed with the music, Amity’s purple dress flowing and swirling as Luz spun her around effortlessly. They danced and swayed, and suddenly, all of their problems seemed to fade away. For a little while, Luz’s inner guilt she had about helping Belos meet The Collector disappeared. For a little while, Amity’s aching heart, which missed her dad and siblings dearly, seemed to be filled with warmth.
'Ding!'
The oven’s timer snapped the two girls out of their trance.
“Ah! They’re ready!” Luz exclaims, as the two rush to the oven, hand-in-hand. Luz carefully removed the tray, and the two started icing the ghost-shaped cookies. The white frosting created the body of the ghost, and the black frosting made up the facial expressions on the ghosts.
“Luz?”
“Hm?” Luz looked up from the cookie she was decorating.
“You have icing on your face.” Amity giggled, causing Luz to giggle softly. The witch’s delicate hand wiped the icing off her girlfriend’s cheek, gazing into her warm eyes.
“Amity?” Luz said, her face heating up, her stomach filled with butterflies.
“Hm?” Amity squeaked.
“I love you."
“I love you too, sweet potato.”
