Work Text:
Astrid pushed her way through the trees and came to a clearing overlooking the docks. On the edge of the cliff was a lone figure sitting on the rock picking at the dirt in the cracks.
“Hey,” She said as she sat down with him.
“I didn’t expect you to find me. Most people wouldn’t think to look for me up here.” Hiccup said bitterly.
“I would hope I know you better than that by now. We’ve been friends for a while after all.” Astrid leaned forward so she could stare down at the ships rocking gently in the water.
“Not really. It’s only been a few weeks, really. We weren’t friends before Dragon Training.” Hiccup sighed and brought his knees to his chest. “You were a part of the group that bullied me. It wasn’t until after I started training with Toothless that we became friends.’”
“You’re right. I’m sorry. I should have done more to stop the twins and Snotlout. But that’s over now. I will never let people bully you ever again. No matter what.” They sat in silence for a while, watching the wind drag clouds through the sky. The weather would be turning soon and they needed to start getting ready for winter.
“Hey, where do you think Fishlegs is? I would have thought he’d have made his way up here by now.” Astrid asked, brushing her hair and the uncomfortable topic aside for now. She knew that it would have to be brought up again, that this short chat wouldn’t fix the wrongs Hiccup had experienced. It wouldn’t fix the wrongs Hiccup was still experiencing. At least it was a start.
“I don’t know. He’s probably ended up at the Great Hall by now. You know Phlegma makes him help cook whenever she sees him.” Hiccup stretched his legs out in front of him, one foot dangling off of the edge.
“Yeah, you’re probably right. Should we go save him?” Astrid stretched, her legs were getting cold from sitting on the rock and she wanted to get moving again, but not without Hiccup.
“I guess.” Hiccup tucked his legs underneath himself as he stood. He reached out his left hand and asked, “Can I help you up?”
“Thank you,” Astrid smiled, a blush coloring her cheeks. This was something to tell Fishlegs when they got a private moment.
