Chapter 1: Comeback (GinHime)

Summary:

The one time Hime wants to lose

Chapter Text

Hime’s attention flicked back onto her screen, as the words “round won” flashed. Just three more rounds, and she would be done. She had expected to finish this match an hour ago, but her team had lost so hard they had gone 0-10. The enemy team only needed one more round to win. Unfortunately for both her enemies and herself, Hime had locked in, carrying the team round after round until the score was now 8-10.

“Hime-san, please, we need to wake up early tomorrow.” Even through her headphones, Ginko’s voice came through loud enough for her to hear. At least in this moment, Ginko sounded soft and sleepy. Hime so desperately wanted this match to end already.

“Give me just ten more minutes.” It had been a bit on stream at first, that Hime asked her girlfriend to sing her a lullaby at night. Then, Ginko had actually gone and did it, resulting in the best sleep she ever had. The sight of a drowsy Ginko in the morning was a nice addition as well.

Now, a few weeks later, it had cascaded into Ginko practically abandoning her own bed most of the days, instead choosing to come to Hime’s room to sleep together.

While the arrangement was possibly the best thing that ever happened to her, it also meant concessions had to be made. Ginko was a normal human that needed sleep to function. Sleep, that she got by being in a quiet room without the sounds of a controller being mashed or a mouse being clicked. The days of sacrificing her sleep to get one more game in were traded for days spent in bed cuddling with her girlfriend. Totally worth it, but her match had gone so overtime that Ginko was starting to get impatient.

Another round won flashed on her screen. Just two more rounds and she could have both her sweet sweet victory and her nightly cuddle with her girlfriend.

“You said that ten minutes ago.” Ugh, she had indeed said that. She thought she would have slipped up by now and conceded a round, but then she just kept winning. That was great and all, but it also meant she was keeping her girlfriend awake. Going on a giant comeback had never felt more horrible.

“I know but I swear I'm almost done.” Another flash of victory appeared on her screen. 10-10 one more.

Ginko’s sleep sigh came through. The echoes of Ginko’s footsteps made Hime’s brain scream in panic. “I’ll just go back to my room. That way, I can get sleep and you can finish your game.”

“Wait no!” It was a knee-jerk reaction, Hime tore off her headset, spinning around in her chair to grab Ginko’s arm. “I'm good now! See! Let's go to bed!”

Ginko was clearly fighting to keep her eyes open, she expected to get a scolding from Ginko about making her stay up, instead her girlfriend just let out an adorable yawn and nodded. As she stood up, Hime took a moment to shut down her computer, she briefly registered she had lost before the screen went black. It stung, just a little. The constellation prize of Ginko tugging her onto bed and covering them with a blanket certainly helped.

“Did I make you lose?” Ginko murmured. Hime let herself get pulled in wiggling around to find the most comfortable position which defaulted to wrapping her hands around her girlfriend.

“It's not important.” What was important was Ginko. “Sorry, I didn't expect it go for so long.”

Ginko replied by wrapping her own arms around Hime, the pink-haired girl soon finding herself face to face with Ginko who had since closed her eyes in preparation to drift off. “It's ok. Just don't make a habit of it.”
