Chapter Text
Aaron POV:
"How did you know Garte was a huge fan of pastries?" Melissa asked me surprised but somewhat glad about it.
"Well, I know Garroth and Zane, his sons," I chuckled "so... They talk about that a lot."
"I still can't believe that!" she exclaimed enthusiastically "How awesome is it that you have close relations with the Ro'Maeve boys?! Really, it's like this deal was meant to be!"
"Yeah," It was good for business and our parents would be proud, while thinking of my parents I couldn't help asking, "So... Are we going to hang out with Mom and Dad today?"
Melissa chuckled and said "Well, here's hoping. They did take a whole day off just to spend with us, so... They might be behind schedule a bit. Either way, we'll have dinner with them sometime this week!"
"Oh... Uh, okay." Her answer was vague and didn't give me a lot of confidence but I would be seeing them this week
Then Melissa decided to ask "How have you been feeling, by the way? Since you've taken a break from your girlfriend."
"To be honest... I really miss her." I answered, my heart feeling heavy
"You do?" she asked, "Has she called you?"
"Well... No, but I did call her to check on our fur-babies." I told her
"Well, that doesn't sound like she cares about you very much now, does it?" She said in a skeptical tone
"I'm sure she's just giving me the time that I asked for." I stated trying to reassure her
"Nonsense!" She exclaimed "As someone who's been in a few relationships before, I know this kind of behavior. I'm not going to say anything else besides It doesn't end well." I wanted to tell her that she was wrong, but there was some truth to it and then she said "Either way... Let's stop with the depressing talk, shall we? We've got to get you a new suit for the next meeting we have!"
Huh? Hey! Isn't that meeting tomorrow? I
Yes, but it's best we're ready! I'll just go to the bathroom first!
She went to the bathroom for a bit and I was pretty much lost in thought about everything that had been happening until someone called my name, it was a familiar voice I'm not sure from where but I had heard it before, I raised my head to see who was in front of me and saw... Ein "Aaron?"
I stared at him in shock and finally managed to blurt out "What are you doing here?!"
"Hey, hey calm down!" he exclaimed defensively "I'm not going to do anything bad. people change you know!"
I guess, people can change but I couldn't help but be on guard "My question still stands, what are you doing here?"
"Grabbing lunch with a few coworkers" he responded "You?"
"I had a business lunch because my parents couldn't come"
"So you're doing business?"
"Yeah..."
"Look, Aaron, I know you're feeling tense talking to me after what happened in high school, I was going through a lot of shit back then, my home life wasn't great, I know that's no excuse for my actions, I almost killed someone, I'm sorry"
"You're SORRY? You know that's not going to make me start trusting you out of nowhere"
"I know, I know, you're a smart man and I don't expect you to start trusting me," Ein said as he handed me a small piece of paper "This is my number if you need someone to chat with"
"What? Why are you giving me your number" I asked him
"Because I want to fix things with the people I hurt" He stated "You just happen to be the first one I bump into"
I could only look at him confused at that moment and then he said "I have to go, goodbye"
I didn't care to answer, I was too... dumbfounded to say anything. As he walked away I couldn't help but feel suspicious of what had just happened. I knew people could change, like Gene and Ivy, but there was something eerie about the way he acted and his "intentions". Suddenly Melissa came back. It startled me but got me back in the zone, I was pretty out of it at that moment.
