July 1993
Libra Black loved the woods. They were filled with life, mystery, and adventure; what more could one ask for? Walking down the path, she collected the plants that her mum needed for her potions, her crow-familiar loyalty behind. Digging up the roots, she needed a moving green leaf, which caught her eye. She looked up to find a family of Browtruckles living in the trunk.
"Aw, hello, their little guys." they seem to be spoked and try to hide within the crakes of the old tree. Sitting down, Libby pulls out her dragon hide notebook and starts sketching the tiny creatures. Phobos landed beside her, eating some seeds that were on the ground. Once the drawing was complete, she began writing everything she could remember about this magical creature from memory. Phobos kept flying away and coming back with one trinket or another. Some sort of flower, gem, or lost trinket. Walking around, she saw some more magical creatures: Nifflers, Mooncalfs, Fwoopre, etc.
She drew each of them in her book and wrote about them, too, pocketing everything Phobos brought her and rewarding him with a treat. Eventually, the sun was setting, and it was time to start heading back. Before long, Libby and Phobos made it to the portkey. Before she could grab the old one, Phobos landed on her head and dropped something in the palm of her hand. Looking down, she saw that it was a small acorn.
"Thank you, Phobos." Slipping the small nut in her pocket, she grabs some seeds to feed him. Grabbing the boot, she feels a pooling sensation before she arrives in her room. Running down the stairs, past her brother's room, who is practicing charms, she goes to her mother's study.
"Mama, I'm back and got the stuff you needed." Dumping the ingredients from her purse, Natalia black inspected the herbs and roots. Athens, her barn owl, huffed in annoyance.
"This is a really good haul, Libby. Did you have fun?"
"Yes, Phobos brought me some cool things, too." She emptied her pockets into her mom's treasures. Picking up the acorn, she inspected it before placing it in her daughter's hand.
"This is from a rare healing tree that only grows in the moonlight every hundred years. They are very valuable and said to be very lucky. You should keep it safe, love."
Looking down at her hand in amazement, she nodded her head.
"I will," she told her mom as Natalia kissed her daughter's head.
