Work Text:
"Kev?"
Kevin kept his eyes on the car magazine he was reading. "Hm?"
"What's it like having me as a girlfriend?"
He lifted his magazine to gaze down at Gwen, whose head rested on his lap. Her legs dangled off the edge of the couch, and she had a book of her own splayed on her stomach. "You already know the answer," he replied casually.
"Mmm, no." She placed her book on the coffee table and sat up. Folding her legs on either side of his waist, she straddled him, taking his magazine and setting it aside. "I know what it's like to be your girlfriend. I wanna know what it's like for you."
Oh, she was being serious.
Wearing a smirk, he put his hands on her hips and gave them a squeeze. "Is this your way of gettin' me to compliment you?"
"There is that," she admitted shamelessly, laying her hands on his broad shoulders. "But I'm also just curious."
Far be it for him to leave her curiosity unsated. "Well, I love how smart you are, and that you own it. I like it when you nerd out about what you learn in your classes. Helps that your voice is ear candy." He swore he'd listen to every word she said even if she spoke gibberish.
She smiled. "Go on." He was off to a great start so far.
He gave her a once-over. "You're the most beautiful girl I've ever seen and the best thing about it is you don't even need to try."
"I don't know if I'd say that." Sure, she didn't put as much effort into her appearance as some other girls, but it wasn't easy to look good.
"I would," he insisted. He wasn't about to let her brush off his praises. "How many times have you come back from a run or a mission lookin' like a complete mess?"
She puffed out her cheeks and exhaled. "Too many to count."
He put a hand over his heart to signal his sincerity. "I promise, you looked beautiful every single one of those times." Flustered, she tried to bury her face in her hands, but he gently held her wrists. "Look at me. You're gorgeous. Always will be."
A smile stretched so wide across her face that her cheeks started to hurt. "Kevin, I... wow. Thank you."
"You're somehow even MORE beautiful on the inside! You got a big heart. We probably wouldn't even be together if you didn't see the best in people even when they don't deserve it." He stroked her chin, and it took all her self-control to not melt into a puddle. She wished she were recording this moment so she could replay it over and over again. "Then there's aaallll the other things, like how we can sit in the same room doin nothin' and it'll still feel like quality time, or how well we work together on the field. I love that smile you have when you look at me, and that look you get when you're knee-deep working on an assignment and how cute you are when you snore."
She lightly punched him in the shoulder out of embarrassment. "Shh, shh! Don't ruin the moment!"
"Okay, okay!" He chuckled. "Point is, I love what we have. You got me wrapped around your finger. You could ask me to jump, and I'd ask how high."
"How about..." Gwen lidded her eyelids and leaned in, cupping Kevin's cheeks. Her warm breath tickled his lips as her voice dropped to a near-whisper. "You kiss me instead?"
More than happy to oblige, he tilted his head and closed his eyes, smiling when his soft lips joined hers. He could taste a hint of the bitter coffee she'd had earlier. A sweet, familiar rush overtook them, making their hearts race. As their kiss deepened, he placed one hand on her thigh while the other daringly slid under her shirt and rested comfortably against the small of her back. She arched into his touch almost instinctively; a sign that she welcomed his forwardness.
When the time came for him to break away, he did so very slowly, relishing the last moments of their kiss. Their chests heaved as they caught their breath. "That— enough— for ya?" he asked between pants.
"Never." She didn't give him the chance to reply before diving back in for another kiss.
Suffice it to say, they weren't going to get back to reading anytime soon.
