Work Text:
Lee Uju, a kid who was enjoying his movie, had run to the door without a thought when he heard the door was opened by someone. He is too happy to see his parents back on this time, no matter one or two, which means he will get company for his bedtime reading section.
"Eomma!" Uju exclaimed.
"Uju-ah, my baby! I miss you so much! Do you have fun for your day?" Although Song-Hwa will experience this every time she manages to get back home earlier, she still loves this so much. Her universe will never disappoint her for making her day.
"Eung! Today I had so much fun with Mone, and Mone..." Uju keeps sharing about Mone.
Since Uju keeps growing and he has his own knowledge on "relationship". Song-Hwa knows her dear son will experience this, especially when Uju keeps mentioning the same name. Her boy is totally an affectionate person, just like his appa.
"It seems like uri Uju does not miss his mom today," Song-Hwa pouted.
"Aniya, Uju misses eomma much too, just like eomma does! But today only eomma came back earlier? Where is appa?" Uju scanned the door and did not notice his appa.
"Your appa got an emergency case, so probably will come back late. Is it okay for only having me for your accompanying of your rest of the day?" Song-Hwa and Ik-Jun always feel guilty about their less appearance in Uju's daily life due to their busy schedule. They had tried to free their time as much as they could to accompany their universe. Still, they are still doctors, for Pete sake, there will be emergencies waiting for them no matter where they are.
"Of course, eomma! I had not been with you alone for a long time, we finally can have our mother-son duo time without caring for our big baby." Uju said excitedly.
"Eomma, can you read Harry Potter for me tonight?" Asked Uju.
"What a sudden, my dear?" Song-Hwa was surprised that her son had mentioned the series she and his father liked for a long time.
"Mone said the Harry Potter series is interesting, but I don't think I had read it before or even watched it before. Mone's appa seems like going to play the movie for Mone and Mane this weekend. I want, I want too, eomma. I want to listen to the Harry Potter series for my bedtime story and also watch the movie, just like what Mone had experienced."
"Sure! But I don't think we have Harry Potter series books at our house now. How about this weekend? Eomma promises to buy you the Harry Potter series books and read them for you. Also, share your appa and mine story about Harry Potter." Song-Hwa replied smiley.
"A totally yes! Eomma, did you know that..." Uju started to share his small thoughts with his mom again.
While Song-Hwa had fallen into the memories that she had about Harry Potter, and the male character in her memories was not someone else but the father of her child.
Autumn 1999
Song-Hwa started running when the bus arrived at the destination. She had no choice but to rush for a while, just for the new season of her favourite series.
"Ouch!" She ran too fast till she threw herself into someone's arm.
"Are you okay? Are... jagiya?" The boy was also in a rush, just like Song-Hwa, but he got stunned when he recognised the girl in front of him. Well, you couldn't blame someone else when the girl who blocked your road is your precious one.
Song-Hwa was also shocked when her eyes met Ik-Jun's, she had lost her thoughts not until Ik-Jun called her multiple times.
"We can talk later, I think you have the same purpose with me running at this street. We're going to be late, let's go." Ik-Jun didn't give Song-Hwa a chance to answer and started running again, holding Song-Hwa's hand.
"Glad that we manage to buy it." Ik-Jun looked at the new book he got satisfyingly and continued, "Since when you like Harry Potter? I have no idea about it," he said, looking back at his girlfriend.
"You're the one who surprises me more. I thought you only liked nightclubs? My dear city boy," Song-Hwa teased.
"Yah, I'm not always a nightclub rat! I also love to read. I started to read Harry Potter since the time when the first season was released."
"Then what was the year?" Song-Hwa is looking at his boyfriend with a smiley face.
"1995?" replied Ik-Jun.
"Bahahahahahhahaha, you better think before you talk, my dear club rat." Even though Ik-Jun answered it wrong, Song-Hwa still thought that was cute.
"I'm really a fan, just forget about the exact year all of a sudden!" Ik-Jun explained.
"OK, OK, I trust you," Song-Hwa replied in a perfunctory way.
"It's really a fact!"
"I trust you, and to avoid you keep nagging me, I think I better go now," Song-Hwa started walking.
"Hey, wait for me!" Ik-Jun followed her quickly and held her hand. The teases were still ongoing when they headed back, but that is just what youthful day looks like, doesn't it?
After this, their relationship welcomed a new thing, despite the rain, and probably the Harry Potter series had meant other things for them.
Winter 2001
Song-Hwa was sitting at the library with her reference book opened, but her heart had flied to another place since she started to revise her homework. She was known as the model student who would keep studying even when the sky was falling down, but those days in that week were probably an exception.
"Hey!" Ik-Jun appear.
"Why are you here? I thought you said you have things to manage." Song-Hwa replied, still in her not-too-energised mood.
"We're going on a date this weekend, aren't we? How about we go watch a movie?" Ik-Jun knew the reason why his dear girlfriend was in that mood, so he had prepared a little surprise to cheer her up.
"We discuss again this weekend. You haven't had your lunch, right? Let's go. I'm hungry now." Song-Hwa started to clean her stuff, while Ik-Jun held her hand as a sign for giving him a moment.
"How can you just stop someone without giving them the opportunity to end their words? Jjang!" Ik-Jun took out the movie ticket and passed it to Song-Hwa.
"Is this real? Oh my god! How did you manage to get these? I thought they were fully sold out!" Song-Hwa jumped when she saw the tickets. Also, the main reason why she had been down for a few days. Since she was excited when Harry Potter had announced to produce a movie, she had been waiting for the moment for too long but ended up not getting the tickets and watching it in cinema.
Lee Ik-Jun, always being Lee Ik-Jun, will get whenever he wants, no matter using what ways.
"What? You don't want it?" said Ik-Jun, still holding the tickets.
"I do! I love this. I really do." Song-Hwa took the tickets quickly, like she was going to lose them. "My gosh. This is crazy. You're nuts." Song-Hwa could not hide her smile and kept looking at the tickets unbelievably.
While Ik-Jun was looking at Song-Hwa proudly, he was glad that he managed to get the tickets. He does like Harry Potter, but Song-Hwa's happiness will always be his first priority.
"Seriously, this is nuts! I really like it! Thank you so much, jagiya!" Song-Hwa jumped and hugged Ik-Jun tightly as the boy was blushing at what he had heard from his girlfriend.
"Jagiya, we're still in the library," said Ik-Jun. As Ik-Jun didn't have the thought to disturb this sweet moment, he still needs to, just because they were at the library, and Ik-Jun can feel the fierce eye sights from the others.
"Jagiya, let's go for a tteokbokki date now," Ik-Jun whispered. He pulled them apart, packed Song-Hwa's stuff, and holding her hands, ran out of the library.
Ik-Jun backed home at around 11 p.m. Ik-Jun was sure that Uju was already in his dreamland, while Song-Hwa was nowhere to be seen. Ik-Jun put down his bag, went to his son's and give him a kiss. Then, he went to their study room to find his wife appearance. As expected, his wife was still working on her job.
"Our Chae Song-Hwa gyosunim works so hard. Should I ask the director to raise your salary?" He walked to his wife, and gave her a massage.
"It's nearly end. You come back earlier than my expectation." Song-Hwa turned a bit and met Ik-Jun's eye.
"It's not early anymore, now is already 11 p.m. You are so into your job and had no idea the time run this fast, am I right?"
"Omoo, already 11 p.m.? Let me check the last file before I go to the bed." Song-Hwa sat straight. ready to get into the fight again but the drowsiness had won over the fight.
"I can sense your body is telling you to get a rest. Let's go to bed now, leave it tomorrow alright?" Ik-Jun helped Song-Hwa to get up and pushed her to their bedroom.
If you ask what Ik-Jun enjoys the most in his exhausted daily life, the answer will probably be going home with his wife after work and lying on their bed chatting with her. They complain about the co-workers and talk about the surgeries they did. Also, they badmouth their families together too. They talk about all sorts of stuff. And tonight is no exception.
"Ik-Jun ah, Uju had mentioned Harry Potter today," said Song-Hwa while playing with Ik-Jun's finger.
"Jinjja? Should I ask my mom to find out my treasure box again? I think I keep it well in my room." Ik-Jun was a bit shocked when hearing that their boy had started exploring something that was liked by his parents very much in their old days.
"Just keep them in your room. I had promised Uju that I would buy a new set for him, like every kid should have their own Harry Potter series," said Song-Hwa.
"Wah, uri Uju, what a sudden? I couldn't introduce Harry Potter to him before, since I watched him fall into Star Wars so much, but now just a moment he gets into a Potter head," asked Ik-Jun curiously.
"Did you remember the girl that Uju kept mentioning? It's Mone. Your son said, Mone's parents had read her Harry Potter story, and she thinks it's fun and introduces it to him. As a result, your son kept mentioning it to me."
"Uju really had fallen hard for Mone. Is that a hint that our universe will fall into Harry Potter, just like our youthful days?" Ik-Jun was exciting and happy now, due to the fact that he finally introduced his favourite series to his dear son.
"Not only youthful days, I like Harry Potter stories even until now; just I had no time to mention about it," said Song-Hwa.
"I do not say anything. Back then, we were so into Harry Potter. We had read all the series of the books and managed to watch every series of the movie, even..."
"Even we were super hectic for our intern and resident days. We had made the promise to let our future involve Harry Potter, but it seems like we had broken the promise," Song-Hwa interrupted Ik-Jun, as she knew what he was going to talk about.
"You had mentioned that time we were crazy busy with our studies. After our studies, we get into the courier. After that, we married, got promoted in our job, and also welcomed our universe. I think just even the busyness of our beginning on the courier, it still be a reasonable reason." Ik-Jun had slightly fallen backed to his memories.
"Actually, many couples had broken up at that time, hadn't they? I'm glad we are still together, till now."
"I'd remembered someone had asked me to break up for a period, just because she needed to feel the sadness the same as her favourite character," Ik-Jun pouted.
"It's old days, old days! The truth is, I think the line between Professor Snape and Lily was full of regret and pity. They grew up together but got separated due to one word. I think Lily was shocked and mad enough when she heard that word from the one who used to be her best friend." Song-Hwa looked at Ik-Jun. Ik-Jun pulled near their distance and picked a light kiss.
"I'm glad I didn't make you mad with my words back then," said Ik-Jun.
"You did, actually," said Song-Hwa. Ik-Jun looked at her with a shocked expression. She continued, "But it's not like you had reached the level for me to break up with you. Just like a small mad? And I get my smile back after you surprised me with your ideas."
"My charm is bigger than Snape, I think," said Ik-Jun with a proud face.
"I'll probably choose Professor Snape without a doubt," Song-Hwa teased.
"I thought I'm your favourite one," said Ik-Jun, who started to act like a boy abandoned by his favourite one.
"Not when you are comparing with my favourite series character. Also, you're not my favourite one, my heart was fully taken by my favourite universe." Song-Hwa shows her biggest smile to her husband.
Actually, Ik-Jun loves this more than feeling jealous. He loves the way the lovely interaction between the mother-son duo. He knew this well when he started meeting Song-Hwa—that she would be kind for everything, showed her profession on the outside, but being a "daughter" relays on someone she believes in. As Uju has been born, Song-Hwa has more mature being in the house. Still, in front of Ik-Jun, she can always be the child.
"I'm really fortunate, so I got the Ron and Hermione's script with my loved one, despite getting the Snape and Lily's script," said Ik-Jun randomly.
"Even though they didn't get along, they still have great memories with each other. Also, they had lived in the way of what they had chosen." Song-Hwa loves the line between Snape and Lily much, but still she knew that there was nothing perfect. This is why Harry Potter is her favourite series. There will be lots of details to discuss, even if you're nearly in your middle of age.
"Just like I chose Beginner's level for tteokbokki, while you chose spicy level?"
"Do you think it's related to the topic I said just now?" Song-Hwa stated her curiosity.
"Of course. You said they lived the way they chose, although sometimes you will be the one having both of the tteokbokki." Ik-Jun looked at Song-Hwa with a pure and innocent look.
"I have no idea with you," Song-Hwa burst a laugh, although it's lame.
"Nevermid, I'll send it to you. Have you received?" said Ik-Jun while doing a strange pose.
"Mwoya, stop it," said Song-Hwa, still laughing.
"Haven't received? How about this."
"Wahahahhahah, just stop it."
The night still belongs to them as their conversation still going on.
