Fire Burning

Work Text:

The warehouse Building was crumbling around them, But Jay wasn't leaving without Angel.

He searched tirelessly, until he found her, pinned down under some smoldering debris. He adjusted his oxygen mask and ran further down the corridor.

“Ang!” he exclaimed, as the more smoldering pieces of the warehouse fell around them.

“Leave… save yourself.. I can't.. I can't feel my legs,” her voice came out as a pained plea.

“Not without you! I'm not leaving you!” He exclaimed, desperately trying to remove the debris.

Even his fire resistant gloves began to get hot, the extreme heat could be felt through the gloves.

“Even.. if.. you get… me out… I can't.. I can't walk,” her voice grew weaker and her words more slurred as she began to succumb to smoke inhalation.

“I'll carry you if I have to, Ang.. Damn it! Hang in there,” he hurried to pull off his oxygen mask, placing it on her.

The fire was slowly claiming The whole warehouse, visibility was non-existent.

The emergency vehicles Sirens rang out piercing the deafening sound of the flames. The final piece of debris pinning his wife down was finally removed.

It felt like hours but was really only thirty minutes or so. He pulled her burned and battered body out. She was no longer speaking.

Tossing her over his shoulder, weak from the obvious smoke inhalation. Barely able to get to his feet.

He clambered and stumbled, the fire had burned down the supporting wall which was good for their escape.

But bad as now the air from outside, made the fire burn stronger. Then it already was, and with a final stumble.

He finally felt the cold air on his face, sucking in as much oxygen as he could muster. EMT’s rushed over to assist the couple.

“We made it, we finally made it,” he looked over at Angel who was unconscious now. The EMT's worked to stabilize the couple.

Jason was mostly alright, besides suffering from a lack of oxygen. But Angel was in bad shape.

He made a call to Bruce, letting him know the situation. “Yeah, I'm in the ambulance with her, meet us at Gotham General,”

With a final glance, he watched the firefighters trying to put out the fire. As the ambulance drove off towards the hospital.
