Day 7 - Hoodie Weather

Work Text:

Remus and Sirius had only been dating a couple months. It was new and they hadn’t told anyone yet, except for Peter who walked in on them snogging. But he had been sworn to secrecy, not that they thought he’d last long.

A white blanket of snow covered the grounds which made today a special day. It was the first snowy quidditch game of the season and as per tradition for every snowing game, the players in relationships gave out their warm-up jackets with a kiss before the game, to keep their partner warm while they show their support during the freezing game.

In years past Sirius had given his jacket either to James as a joke, planting a big sloppy kiss to his cheek, or to whatever girl he was trying to impress that week. But today, with Remus’ nervous permission, he was going to look over at the stands to see Remus wearing his jacket.

The Great Hall was buzzing with excited energy as the Gryffindor quidditch players sat around, scarfing down food before the game and excitedly going on about giving their jackets away. He could hear the same conversation happening at the Ravenclaw table.

“Can I expect a smooch today?” James asked.

“You’ll just have to wait and see,” Sirius said with a wink. He peered down at the end of the table at Remus, smiling as he let his eyes linger before snapping back as James began insisting that they go over plays.

The stands were packed but Lily had insisted on getting there early so they were at the very front. Lily, Remus, Mary, Peter, and Dorcas pushed against the front rails. They were dawning red and gold face paint. Usually when Lily offered Remus and Peter turned her down but today to her surprise Remus had agreed and Peter had followed. Different variations of red and gold designs covered their faces. Peter had simple lines on his cheeks. Mary had dots that hugged her right eye. Lily had a snitch and a heart carefully painted on her cheeks. Dorcas had ‘M’s drawn on both cheeks. And Remus had a simple set of stars lining the left side of his face.

Remus watched the pitch anxiously as the Gryffindor team ran out and began warming up, flying laps and shooting quaffles through the hoops. They came down to allow Ravenclaw the same opportunity. And then before the game began, players began flying to various points on the stand to give away their jackets.

Marlene was the first to make it over to their group, kissing Dorcas. “You really should just be a Gryffindor, you look so hot in red,” she said, handing over the red jacket. McKINNON written in large letters on the back.

“You forget I look even better in green.”

James was next, heading straight for Lily. He hovered as he leaned across the railing to kiss her. He wrapped the jacket around her and declared “this one’s for you, Evans,” just like he always did. She shook her head and laughed.

Sirius was the last of their friends. He stopped directly in front of Remus with a smile.

“Hi.”

“Hi.” Remus smiled back.

“I love the stars,” he said, tracing above the facepaint with his finger.

“They felt fitting,” Remus said. He was pointedly not looking over at his friends who were probably trying to work out if this was another one of Black’s jokes.

Remus leaned across the railing, closing the gap between them and kissed Sirius in front of all of their friends and multiple stands of students.

“I fucking called it!” Marlene shouted.

Dorcas wolf whistled and Peter exhaled dramatically. “Thank Merlin! I could not keep that in much longer.”

“It’s about time. Moony, you have no idea how long he’s been pining! It was insufferable.” James said. And if they weren’t up on brooms, high in the sky, Sirius would have punched him for that.

Remus snorted. “Merlin, Pads. If James is complaining, that’s pretty fucking bad considering he pined over Lily for years.”

“Don’t make me regret giving you this.” Sirius teased, handing Remus his warm up jacket. Remus looked at the large BLACK across the back and smiled before putting it on.

He pulled Sirius’ face in for one more kiss as Hooch blew the whistle. “Good luck.”

“Don’t need it,” he said, flying down with a big smile.

“When did that happen?” Lily asked, slapping Remus’ arm.

“Remember when we flooded Ravenclaw tower?”

“That was ages ago!” Mary cried.

The game started and the questions of How did it happen? and Where? and Is he a good kisser? How long have you had a crush on him? Have you been on any dates yet? piled in. Remus answered them all while not taking his eyes off Sirius who flew around with the confidence of James. He got to the bludgers quickly and sent them flying across the pitch to Ravenclaw beaters who were barely ready for them and chasers who were even less so. And with every good swing or scored point, there was a quick moment where Sirius looked at Remus and smiled.

And Remus fell more in love every time.

Sirius was flying with more confidence than ever, making moves that he wouldn’t normally and they made Remus hold his breath. He knew Gryffindor was winning, and by a lot but couldn’t focus on the score with his boyfriend in control of the game.

“Did Marlene actually call it?” Lily asked, leaning over to Dorcas.

“There’s a tally in her transfiguration book for every time she caught you gawking at him.”

“Bull,” Remus argued.

“I think it was up to like 27.”

“That’s what that is?” Mary asked in shock.

Peter and the girls exploded with laughter and Remus’ cheeks flushed.

He was thankful when the game came to an end, Gryffindor more than doubling Ravenclaws score. When the stands cleared and the quidditch players met up with their friends, it was clear that Sirius’ ego was inflated more than normal, his confidence at an all time high as if someone had slipped him liquid luck. He took Remus by the hand and shamelessly told their friends that they would be snogging in the dorm and to stay out unless that was something they wanted to see or join.

Remus’ face was beet red but he happily let himself be dragged along to the dorm because Sirius had never been so mind-numbingly attractive.

At dinner Remus pulled the jacket tightly around himself, hiding Sirius’ possessive love bites with something maybe even more possessive, BLACK written right across the back.
