Tohru didn't know what to do. Kyo had hit her - again. But she wanted to make excuses for him. "Maybe his bracelet slipped off," she told herself. "Maybe he's just been through so much trauma and had nowhere else to take it out."
Mostly, she was worried because her feelings for him had developed into something she didn't understand. Why did she even want to make excuses for Kyo's behavior? She wouldn't put up with it if he treated any of her friends that way. But she longed for his attention, and if this was the only way he would give it to her, then...
"Hallo, Princess Tohru!" a cheerful voice called out to her.
She recognized it immediately. "Hi, Momiji," she smiled at him, trying to hide her worry.
But Momiji, ever perceptive, noticed Tohru's uncharacteristic grimace. "Hey, Tohru, are you all right?"
Tohru gave a slight, unconvincing nod. "Yeah, why?" she asked him sheepishly.
Momiji tenderly took her hands in his. "Is there something worrying you?" he asked her gently, his eyes big and shining with curiosity.
Tohru hesitated. She didn't want to lie to Momiji - but at the same time, she didn't quite know how to articulate what was bothering her. "Um..." she stammered quietly.
Momiji's eyes softened. "Come here and let me hug all your worries away," he told her, opening his arms to Tohru.
Without thinking, she allowed herself to fall into his kind embrace. He felt so warm, and he smelled so good. His sweater was so soft, and he felt like exactly what she needed. Indeed, her worries melted away in that moment.
