Yamaguchi never imagined that out of the two of them, Tsukishima would be the clingy one in their relationship. It was almost comical, considering Tsukishima’s usual detached and aloof demeanor. But as they got closer, as their relationship deepened, Yamaguchi quickly learned that Tsukishima Kei had a side no one else saw—a side that was a little needy and far more affectionate than anyone could’ve guessed.
It was a typical afternoon after school, and they were walking home together. The sun was just beginning to set, casting a golden glow over the street. Tsukishima walked close to Yamaguchi, their arms brushing with every step. There was a quietness between them, comfortable and familiar, filled only by the sounds of their shoes on the pavement and the occasional rustle of leaves in the breeze.
Suddenly, Tsukishima leaned in, his voice low, just for Yamaguchi to hear. “Tadashi,” he murmured, tilting his head down slightly. “Kiss me.”
Yamaguchi’s face flushed immediately, his heart skipping a beat as he looked around. There weren’t many people around, but they were still in public, and the idea of kissing in the open like that made his stomach flip with embarrassment.
“Tsukki,” Yamaguchi whispered, his voice a bit shaky as he glanced up at him. “We’re in public.”
Tsukishima, always so cool and indifferent to what others thought, simply gave a small shrug, as if it didn’t matter at all. He leaned in a little more, his golden eyes focused entirely on Yamaguchi’s lips.
But before Tsukishima could get too close, Yamaguchi, flustered, took a quick step to the side, dodging his attempt.
Tsukishima froze for a moment, his lips hovering where Yamaguchi’s should have been. His eyebrows furrowed, a slight pout forming on his face. “Tadashi,” he said, his voice taking on a faint hint of annoyance.
Yamaguchi couldn’t help the small laugh that escaped his lips as he glanced up at Tsukishima, his heart still racing. He loved how Tsukishima had gotten so bold with his affection, but teasing him was too good an opportunity to pass up.
He gave Tsukishima a playful grin, backing away slowly. “What?” he asked innocently, as though he had no idea what Tsukishima was after.
Tsukishima huffed, his frown deepening as he closed the distance between them again, this time faster, leaning in for another attempt.
But Yamaguchi was quicker. He dodged once more, this time laughing as he did so, his green eyes sparkling with mischief. “You’ve got to be faster than that, Tsukki,” Yamaguchi teased, stepping just out of reach.
Tsukishima glared, but there was no real heat behind it. The small pout on his lips stayed, his arms dropping to his sides in exasperation. He knew Yamaguchi was messing with him, but that didn’t make him any less determined.
Without missing a beat, Tsukishima leaned in again, but Yamaguchi, still laughing, danced out of the way.
“Tadashi,” Tsukishima said, his tone bordering on a whine now. His long legs allowed him to catch up easily, but every time he got close, Yamaguchi would dodge him again, keeping just out of reach, his soft giggles filling the air.
It was rare to see Tsukishima so visibly frustrated—and maybe even rarer to see Yamaguchi so playful—but Tsukishima was persistent. His eyes narrowed with determination as he leaned in one last time, and this time, Yamaguchi miscalculated his dodge.
Before he could pull away, Tsukishima’s hand caught his wrist, pulling him close, and in one swift motion, Tsukishima pressed his lips against Yamaguchi’s. The kiss was brief, but it was enough to make Yamaguchi’s heart skip and his face burn even brighter.
Tsukishima pulled back, the tiniest smirk on his lips as he watched Yamaguchi’s flustered expression. “Finally,” he murmured, his tone smug.
Yamaguchi let out a soft chuckle, shaking his head as he met Tsukishima’s gaze. “You’re so needy today,” he said, though there was nothing but affection in his voice.
Tsukishima shrugged again, clearly unbothered by the label. “You were the one dodging,” he pointed out, a playful glint in his eyes.
Yamaguchi rolled his eyes but couldn’t help smiling at him. “Yeah, yeah.”
But just as Tsukishima leaned in again, obviously planning on demanding another kiss, Yamaguchi quickly slipped out of his grasp and began walking ahead, pretending he didn’t hear Tsukishima’s soft “Tadashi” behind him.
“Oi, Tadashi,” Tsukishima called, his voice filled with mock indignation as he hurried to catch up. “You owe me another kiss.”
Yamaguchi only laughed, shaking his head as he picked up his pace, trying to put some distance between them. But Tsukishima wasn’t about to let it go, poking Yamaguchi’s shoulder as he caught up, trying to get his attention.
“Come on, Tadashi, just one more,” Tsukishima insisted, his voice unusually soft as he fell into step beside Yamaguchi.
Yamaguchi glanced at him, still smiling but clearly trying to keep up the game. “You already got one,” he said, but he knew there was no way he could resist the little pout on Tsukishima’s face for long.
As Tsukishima poked his shoulder again, Yamaguchi sighed, his resolve finally breaking. He stopped walking, turning to face Tsukishima with a small grin. “Fine,” he muttered, standing on his tiptoes to plant a quick kiss on Tsukishima’s lips before pulling away. “There. Happy?”
Tsukishima’s usual cool façade cracked just slightly, a small but satisfied smile tugging at his lips as he muttered, “Yeah. Happy.”
And as they continued their walk home, Tsukishima stayed close by Yamaguchi’s side, not needing to ask for more affection, content with the quiet comfort of just being near him.
