I’m corrupted when you’re not with me

Summary:

flufftober 2024 day 9
“don’t do that! - but…”

Chuuya wants to use corruption when a mission gets difficult. Dazai is not having it.

“Maybe Chuuya was being impatient, but he really wanted this mission to be done. He saw only one option that would get them out of here quickly.”

Work Text:

“I will entrust this mission to you, Double Black. Enter the warehouse at night and make sure no one leaves the place with you. You are to secure the documents we talked about and bring them to my office immediately.”

That was what Mori had told them. He didn’t give them any more information, mainly because there wasn’t a lot of intel about the small organization they were to take out. They had been a thorn in the Port Mafia‘s side these past few weeks, disrupting their businesses. Mori had finally gotten ahold of their location and sent Chuuya and Dazai to wipe them out.

The two of them were currently standing in the middle of an empty hall, bullets flying towards them from all sides. They couldn’t hit them of course, not with Tainted Sorrow protecting them.
But they also couldn’t see any of the opposing marksmen, so the situation was kind of a stalemate.

“Chuuya we gotta hide somewhere and discuss our next step!”, Dazai shouted over the noise of the gunshots engulfing them.

“Can’t believe I’m saying this, but I actually agree with you for once”, Chuuya shouted back.

They were standing back to back so when Dazai tapped Chuuya’s right arm he immediately understood what he meant.
They could do that somehow. Know each other’s thoughts without talking.

Chuuya counted and on 3 the both of them ran towards a door on the right side of the hall. Chuuya fired the bullets back to buy them a bit of time to find a good hiding spot.

Behind the door was a small room.
An empty room.

Fuck”, Chuuya exhaled. They wouldn’t be able to hide in here and the documents obviously weren’t here either.
Mori was gonna beat their asses if they came back empty-handed.

Maybe Chuuya was being impatient, but he really wanted this mission to be done. He saw only one option that would get them out of here quickly.

“Oh grantors of dark-“, he started but was cut off by Dazai touching his face and nullifying his ability.

Chuuya looked up at him in confusion and anger.

“Don’t do that, Chibi!”, he told him. Chuuya wasn’t sure if he was being serious, Dazai liked to joke around in the most unfitting situations.

“What? But-“

“No Chuuya, we’ll find another way! I won’t let you use corruption, you only used it last week and I know you don’t want to admit it but you’re still weakened. I’m not worried about you, just worried about the mission is all. And we won’t be able to complete it if you end up dying”, Dazai said, still cupping his cheek.

Chuuya pushed his hand away, he hated when others, especially Dazai, knew he wasn’t at his strongest.
But what he said was true, Chuuya was still weak from using corruption only 5 days prior.
He hated that his ability destroyed his body like this. He had only been ‘discharged’ from the medical emergency room in the Port Mafia building yesterday. Mori wasn’t the type of boss to let you take things slow so Chuuya had gone right back to work as soon as he was healthy enough.

Using corruption multiple times in such a short time would deal great damage to his body and probably his mind too if he was being honest. But what else were they supposed to do?

“Do you have a better plan then?”, Chuuya spat at Dazai.

The latter pretended to think very hard before speaking again.

“Why of course, dear Chuuya! If you could smash the wall behind you?”

“Ugh, why?”, he complained but did as Dazai had said anyway.

He activated Tainted Sorrow, the red simmer shining a comforting light into the otherwise dark room, and punched a hole through the wall. Not only Chuuya’s fist entered the outside though, he also heard something hard and metallic land on the ground together with the remains of the wall.

Well, they had a way out now, at least.
Dazai stepped out first, picking up the metallic thing that was now pretty demolished.
It was a safe.

“Mission completed!”, Dazai grinned at Chuuya.

“You knew this from the beginning, didn’t you?”, Chuuya groaned.

“Hmm, maybe~”, Dazai teased and walked away.

Chuuya touched the other walls as he walked outside too and destroyed them. He let the debris hit the building, hearing it crumble to pieces behind him.

He followed behind Dazai and only shook his head with a smile when his partner turned around to flash him a grin.
