"Promise you'll keep it a secret?"

Summary:

It has been exactly nine hours since Stanford Pines asked Dipper to keep the interdimensional rift a secret between the both of them and 20 hours since he slept.

*Tick* *Tock* *Tick* *Tock*

That's it.

Notes:

I just want ya'll to know that I did write this on a whim while re-watching season 2 and it is currently 12:47 AM, considering the circumstances not my best work but I did want to put up something while this hyperfixation lasts, andddddd English is not my first language, so watch out for grammatical errors (but mostly because I wrote it like at midnight)

Enjoy!!

Work Text:

* Tick* *Tock*  *Tick* *Tock*

Eyes wide. 20 hours without a wink of sleep. Dipper was on his bed staring at the ceiling and counting the number of ridges he could see and after the 18-hour mark, he started to see shapes of Soos? Soos with his shirt open and singing that god-awful song released by that new rapper- Okay this is getting out of hand.

Dipper thought to himself. He jumped out of his bed and stood over Mabel sleeping peacefully with all her four limbs pointing in each direction in the compass, Waddles snuggled up nearby.

“Mabel, Mabel, Mabel. I-I need to tell you something”, he slowly shook her hoping to wake her up. He looked around left and right (just in case Ford jumped from the walls).

“What could you possibly want to tell me in three in the morning Dipper? Just go to sleep-”, and Mabel plopped onto her bed and covered herself with her blanket.

“Mabellll this is serious. Come on!”, he said as he tried to pry open the blanket, only for Mabel to pull it back down.

A muffled voice-y Mabel spoke back, “Aww you want to open the castle to the amazing world of Mabel? Tell thy password”

Dipper swore that he could feel Mabel’s smug expression under her blanket.

Two can play this game

Dipper thought to himself and smiled, “Oh yeah? Try ‘Great uncle ford told me a secret today’, is that the correct pass-”

Mabel hastily shoved away her blanket and the castle opened, “What!? Great. Uncle. Ford. Told. You. A. What.”

With every word spoken with much more emphasis than the last and her face getting closer to Dipper’s inch by inch.

Dipper sighed and slouched down against Mabel’s bed, accompanied by Mabel.

Dipper’s eyes started to wander around and he couldn’t find the right words, even if her did those were washed away by a big wave of guilt building up in the bottom of his stomach.

Mabel noticed this and placed her hands on Dipper’s, “Hey you don’t have to say if you don’t want to, after all you do spend more time with him”.

With the last few words softer than the rest, Dipper caught onto that, “Mabel, the thing is that the other day I went down to the basement and a part of it was covered by a cloth. I asked him what was behind that and I finally got the answer today. Turns out Great uncle Ford dismantled the machine since it was too powerful to operate and the instability caused by the machine caused an interdimensional rift which he contained in a snowball looking thing”

Mabel starred off into space for a while, it turns out that being awoken by your brother and listening to him talk about an interdimensional machine in three in the morning makes it seem more complicated.

Mabel spoke, “Yay! It is contained and we are safe. For now. But I do agree that it is worth being awoken at three”

Dipper again started to wander his eyes, “No Mabel. The thing is that I was supposed to keep it a secret, from you, from Grunkle Stan. I wasn’t supposed to tell anyone this. But but it was bugging me so much I couldn’t sleep. I mean we’ve never kept secrets from each other.

Other that my internet history which you dug up yourself but that’s beside the point, I knew you had to and that you deserved to know”

By the time Dipper finished all that Mabel just stared at the floor, “But why only you though? Does he not like me? Or maybe he was planning to tell me today right? Right?”

Mabel looked over and saw Dipper with an expression that just screams “No”, but with some empathy.

Dipper hugged Mabel and wrapped the blanket over both of them, “Look Mabel I don’t know why Great Uncle Ford told me to keep it a secret. I mean I do have an idea. Maybe he just thinks that we’ll end up like Stan and him and he sees Stan in you………and you know how they ended up.

That’s not me saying that we’ll be like them okay!? I’m just saying that he *thinks* that and we’ll prove him wrong! He doesn’t have anything against you, and he loves both of us, okay?”

Mabel looked up at Dipper with those really? Eyes and Dipped softly smiled, nodded and pulled her closer for reassurance.

“How about spending a night at Tacos town?”

                                                                          “You know me”

And both of them spent the night on the hard wooden floor hurdled together in their blanket (Waddles came down and snuggled up between both of them).
