Work Text:
Hobie watched scared and worried sick for his lover as the Spot bursted into a bright, pale blue light. Some of the dark matter in the villain spattered everywhere, working like an acid even to a solid concrete. But what made Hobie worried the most was how most of the matter absorbed itself into Miles’ electricity and into the younger Spider’s limp body. He desperately wanted to run to his lover, but Peter. B and Gwen held him(and Wiles) back inside the energy shield that acted as a shield against the acidic dark matter.
When the light ceded and all the dark matter were either absorbed into Miles or fallen to the ground, the energy shield flickered off. Desperately, Hobie ran towards where Miles’ limp body was falling down with Wiles shortly behind him.
“Sunflower!” He yelled as he barely managed in time to catch his lover’s falling body in his arms. “Miles! Open your eyes! Please!”
His hands shook as he grabbed onto Miles’ body. Black and blue electricity was dancing around him and in the air. Shocking him weakly then slowly too weak to make anyone feel anything. The weak rhythm of the boy in his arm’s heartbeat stopped shortly after.
Hobie doesn’t remember what happened next. It was all a blur after that. He remembers how hurt he was. How painful it was. How he kept denying the fact that his lover had stopped breathing.
He couldn’t accept it.
Then it just became black.
When Miles woke up, he was greeted with a white ceiling and a familiar scent of hospital. He felt so drained for some reason and he couldn’t remember why. His eyes aimlessly searched around the room. He spotted a vase of sunflowers on the table beside his cot along with a few get-well cards. There was a school bag on a small chair that was stationed right in front of the window, facing the bed. He didn’t know who it was but it felt familiar somehow.
There was an oxygen mask on his face and multiple IVs strapped to his arms. He could feel the rough but soft texture of bandages all around his body. His ears were ringing and he didn’t have the energy to move a single finger. He felt alone and scared.
Suddenly, he felt a weak tingle in his mind.
Is something wrong with my brain too, maybe?
Just after he finished his thought, the door slammed open. He distantly could hear panicked voices from it. Weakly and slowly, he turned his head towards the sounds.
There stood a tall boy, a teenager, almost an adult. His dark skin and fluffy black hair fit well with his beautiful dark chocolate brown eyes. Miles could tell that he was also another patient from how he wore a hospital gown and how the nurses behind him were fussing over him. What interested Miles the most was how the boy’s body seemed to always change colors and textures, like he didn’t decide on which state he liked the best.
The boy looked relieved, worried, scared, and on the verge of bursting into tears as he walked towards his bed. He shakily lifted his hand and gently touched Miles’ cheeks. It was so gentle, like he was scared that he'd break Miles with a single touch. Which was funny because somehow, his touch seemed to give him energy instead of taking away what little he had.
It’s warm.
He thought as he leaned into the touch. It felt so familiar and loving. It made him calm and safe. It made butterflies flutter in his stomach. It made his mind hum with love and the sense of being home.
Like a certain boy always seemed to make him feel.
“Miles,” the boy croaked out, tears threatening to fall, “Sunflower… Love…”
Like how he made him feel. Like now. Like how…
“Hobie…” Miles whispered. His throat felt so dry and he didn’t like it.
“M’ here,” Hobie gave him a shaky smile as he leaned in. His forehead against Miles’.
“Hobie…” Miles liked Hobie though.
“I was so worried,” Hobie whispered back, squeezing Miles’ hand with his other hand that wasn’t on his cheek. “You stopped breathing… You were bleeding and-and-”
“It’s ok,” said Miles as his memories slowly flowed in, “It’s ok.”
“Never do that again,” his lover pleaded, tears falling down his beautiful eyes, “I can’t lose you. I can’t.”
“You wouldn’t lose me,” Miles promised his partner, “I love you.”
“Love you too, Sunflower,” Hobie tenderly kissed his forehead.
