New
It was a singular experience awaking here in this new world, where peace was the norm and the gods were little more than an echo on a breeze. Not so different to when Lightning was woken from crystal but at the same time utterly dissimilar.
One morning, to the dawn of a new day, she simply opened her eyes and sat up in a bed. A room, in an apartment that she somehow knew was hers, surrounded by all the knick knacks and fripperies she'd never allowed herself before. As if she'd already had a life here, one that she'd been living and she was merely separated from it during her dreams.
Lightning knew then, almost instantly, that everything hadn't been a dream. She felt it through to her soul the truth of what she'd done, the memories bubbling and roiling inside of her until she couldn't keep them inside and soon she was running to a toilet, retching and heaving. She lay there, mind whirling, emotions, so many emotions howling through her and she was left shivering in their wake. She could barely move, barely breathe.
She half wished she'd been reborn with no memories at all.
