“Seldie, are you ready?” Luce asked seriously, his eyes dark with intent, even through the paintballing mask.
Glisselda nodded, equally grave. The sounds of shouting and shooting were muffled from inside the shack they were in, though their masks were doing most of the heavy lifting in that area.
Lucian gave her one last look before they both head out towards the fighting. Paintballs of all colours were flying left and right around them. They ducked behind a blind made of haystacks, only having got one or two shots off.
“Follow me if you want to live.” A voice said behind them. They turn to see a young woman around their age standing there, the same bright purple paintballing helmet on her head. Since Glisselda and Lucian had just decided spur of the moment to do this, they were placed randomly on a team that had fewer members than the others.
Luce and her shared a quick look before turning towards the other woman.
“While you lead us to safety, o fellow Grape Head,” Glisselda started, hating how the company named the groups after fruits like that. Lemon Head, Cherry Head, Blueberry Head, et cetera. “May we know your name?”
“How polite of you,” she said, and Glisselda and Lucian had the distinct feeling that if they could see her face, they would see one eyebrow cocked up. “I’m Seraphina, but most people call me Phina.”
“Glisselda, but I go by Seldie.”
“Lucian, but you can call me Kiggs.”
“Nice to meet you. Now let’s get to safety and regroup.”
