Work Text:
Neither of them knew how they got here, staring at the night sky, hands intertwined. The sky was littered with stars, more than on a normal night. Viktor couldn’t help but think that they were, as if fate decided for them to watch the stars, silently loving each other. If you asked him when he started loving Julius, he would not be able to give you a definitive answer. He himself never knew when his feelings for Julius started. All he knew was the way his heart’s pace would speed up, the way that when he laughed, Viktor would unknowingly stop breathing. Maybe it was from the moment he saw him, the moment he decided to talk to Julius, or the moment they got close.
He never expected the other to reciprocate his feelings, so it came as a surprise when he found the letter on top of his desk. It was a simple letter, with no sender written outside the outside of the envelope, yet his name was written in graceful calligraphy, a handwriting he did not recognize. He opens the letter, curious as to what it said. It started like this....
Dearest, Viktor...
It is just as it is with the flower. If you love a flower that lives on a star, it is sweet to look at the sky at night. All the stars are blooming with flowers. Some of the most beautiful ones are those that hold the secrets within their petals and their blooms; those of the secret meaning of life. The night sky is filled with the mysteries of the universe, all of which are contained within the flowers in this momentous night sky, the one which I am looking out for right now.
That night had been one of the nights that the sun had begun its decline. The light was almost gone, and yet, despite that, there seemed to still be some glow remaining in the sky. It was only the faintest bit of light, but, amid it all, it shone brighter than any star. A light that, in itself, our love blooms as the most beautiful star in the sky – a star known as Love. A star that, though I might not know that name, I will love regardless of who I may fall in love with.
think that maybe you’re right. Maybe love isn’t so much about falling, or finding someone to share your life with, even if that person has never been a part of yours before. There’s just something about seeing them. It’ s like an overwhelming sense of relief. Like you can finally breathe normally. Even when the night comes and you’re left alone, even after you’ve closed your eyes and laid down to sleep, even then you’ll remember what that feeling means. To me… You mean everything to me.
There are many things that are hard to explain. For some, there really isn’t a single word that exists to convey everything you experience whenever you see the sun set. Everything feels new. Every emotion is different. Every time you kiss a girl, and you can smell her perfume, or taste the sweetness of her kisses, everything seems more vibrant. Everything feels more special.
But there’s one thing that I do believe with absolute certainty. One thing that has become clear to me for a while now, and it doesn’t matter how long we stay up talking late into the night. That thing is true love.
The stars were beginning to grow dimmer, but our love shall shine bright forever. Even if you are not able to reciprocate my feelings, I hope we can at least stay friends.
Love,
Julius
To say he was shocked was an understatement. The one whom he loved made the first step, and he could do nothing else but smile.
Viktor thought of a plan. He noticed the repeated mention of stars in the letter Julius gave him, making it seem as though he really was interested in them. He noticed the way Julius’ eyes light up when he mentioned it, so he went and looked for places where they could see the night sky together, one preferably filled with flowers or greenery. He wanted to make sure it was perfect, though he knew Julius wouldn’t care so long as they were together.
A week later, their hands found themselves twisted together, the light music from Viktors phone humming a tune, as the stars shone brightly, he could see the way Julius’ eyes shone as he recognized the different constellations and little astral bodies they could see. Viktor smiles lightly, admiring the way he grins while looking at the stars, trying to remember the names.
The music playing on the speaker changes into a familiar tune, causing Viktor to stand up, pulling Julius with him. “May I have this dance?” he asks, putting his hand out for Julius to grab. “This song isn't fit for dancing..." He says, chuckling before continuing "Of course, it's my pleasure.” Julius says, playing along and placing his hands on top of Viktor’s. As the song starts, he positions the two of them, grabbing Julius by the waist.
Alone at the edge of a universe humming a tune
For merely dreaming we were snow.... Mm hm mm..
He stares at Julius, humming to the music as he starts their dance. He hesitates for a few seconds, before taking the lead, moving with purpose.
A siren sounds like the goddess who promises endless apologies of paradise....And only she can make it right.. So things are different tonight~ We'll go together in flight.
As the music rises , their feet move effortlessly, every step, every turn and slow turns, embodying the essence of a slow dance.
It's now and never, a reverie endeavor~
Awaits somnambulant directives to take the helm...
Their bodies flow together seamlessly, as if it was a dance woven by the wind. Moving elegantly to the sound of the rythym, their bodies connect like a poem written in dance.
Believe me, darling ~The stars were made for falling..
Like melting obelisks, As tall as another realm.
Viktor sings along, their dance a calming escape from everything.
It feels like flying, but maybe we're dying~
A cosmic confluence of pyramids hologrammed..
Julius hums to the tune, feeling the crisp air against his skin. He holds onto Viktor tighter, as if now wanting him to let go.
She knows you heard her~ staging music murder!
In line before the show began to be where I am.
"Why did you accept me? No, scratch that. Why do you like me?" Julius asks tentatively. He looks down at the grass with a sigh, licking his dry lips. The music fades into the background, his ears tuning it out.
"It doesn't take much to like someone. You're handsome. Quiet. You seem like someone who doesn't care for much, yet I always catch you laughing quietly whenever something happens." Viktor answered him, pulling Julius closer. "That's it?" He asks, and Viktor chuckles for a moment.
"I wasn't finished" Viktor responds "you make me happy. You make me laugh. Your presence alone comforts me, especially when I'm tired from school. Just being there makes me happy, unlike how I feel when the others stay with me. You're the only one." Julius can hear the honesty in his voice, he could 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘭 him tightening his hold.
As the music slows down, Viktor sways them both to the rhythm, letting go of Julius’ hand to cup his face as Viktor sings along, staring lovingly at him.
You look quite divine tonight~ Here among these vibrant lights.
Pure delights surround us as we sail.... Signed, yours truly, the whale~
"But..." Julius starts, closing his eyes "No. I won't let you think bad thoughts about yourself. Everyone adores you. Atleast, I do. So stop putting yourself down." Julius cuts him off, voice soft, and warm. 𝘐𝘵 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘭𝘴 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘩𝘰𝘮𝘦.
As the song progressed, the two were content, having lost their perception of time, they could feel everything and nothing at once. The cold air blowing against their skin, the tiny grass tickling their feet, and the two wrapped in each other's arms. They could feel the overwhelming sense of comfort, wiping away their problems, even just for a moment. After all, they knew this was where they belonged.
