Work Text:
Athos wasn’t usually a morning person.
Usually.
Holland glared at the slowly cooking batter. He had hoped it would be done before this. “You’re awake early.”
Athos hummed, looking at the blueberries and crackers on the counter. “No bacon?”
“You know I don’t eat bacon,” Holland said calmly. Athos knew where the food was. If he wanted it, he could get it himself. “Especially on Saturday.”
“It seems a silly thing to worry about.” The arms wrapping around his waist felt heavier than they were.
“Says the man with a mild tree nut allergy.” He shouldn’t provoke him. Especially after last night.
Athos didn’t seem to mind which was, in a way, more unnerving. Arms around Holland’s waist and chin tucked over his shoulder, it almost felt nice; it would feel nicer if his back wasn’t aching.
“I hope I didn’t upset you last evening.”
Don’t make it a thing, Holland reminded himself. It would pass sooner if he didn’t draw attention to it. Even so. “Why would I be upset about being kicked out of bed?”
“You didn’t want to join me.” Athos sounded almost hurt. “I thought you would feel more comfortable on the couch.”
Because Athos was so concerned about his comfort. He squirmed out of his grip with the safest excuse. “I need to flip the pancakes.”
He stepped back a couple of steps. Not far enough. “I am trying my best, Holly. If this isn’t working out and you want to leave…”
Holland grimaced at that stupid nickname. There weren’t many other places to go. “It’s fine.”
He refused to flinch at the sudden touch at his back. “My workplace will be hosting a dinner event. I’d like you to join me.”
So he’d be shown off to all his work friends again.
Holland nodded.
